Hey, america is for tinkerers, not thinkers.
For example, the Christie suspension that helped the russian T-34 reach fame. We designed it, but it couldn't ram a tree out of the way so we ditched it. You brits used it though.

that tinkerers versus thinkers is just a silly stereotype put in witty language (hmm... WIT from a non-brit?!)
would that make brits a bunch of people who think a lot but do jack gak? by comparison?
America is, ideally, for all people, tinkers and thinkers and (hopefully) both.
ideally, and the slanguage is a good indicator of that. We're not all dumb. It's just that when you have so many people, the least common denominator starts to stand out... usually in ideas about real-estate, racism, damn illegals takin yer job, guns, creationism... hmm... Sounds like I'm drawing up a psychological profile of George Dubya... Theoretically we voted for him, but everyone sane here knows what the florida miscount was all about. We're not all as dumb as we talk like. yee haw

I would argue that this entire conversation is utterly pointless and every first world nation has a pretty even mix or tinkers, thinkers and spankers in equal measure.
The idea that other countries are that much different is ridiculous, and is one of the reasons why patriotism in general is just stupid.
Percentage wise i meet as many gakkers i dont like as great blokes i do like in bars in the USA as i do in any of the other 50 countries ive got pissed in. I like to try and use that as my "foreign policy experience"

When Americans talk to each other, the game is soccer. Also, American Football is called simply football.
When Englishmen talk to each other, the game is football. Also, American Football is probably rarely discussed.
When an Englishman and an American talk to each other, first and foremost, they should be clear about what the hell they are talking about.
Englishman: "Did you see that bloodly missed penalty last on the telley? Bloody football spanker reff."
American: "What the feth are you talking about?"
Englishman: "The football match last night."
American: "American football or English?"
Englishman: "English, of course."
American: "Ah, yeah. I caught part of that..."
Then, they continue to share a common interest of reff bashing. It is a truely universial sport.
Was any name calling between the two needed? No.
They made themselves clear and had fun. Why do the rest of you have to suck so much?

Why do the british not like 'American Football' anyway? It's a very complex and interesting game in my opinion and I was raised by my english father to have a snobbish disregard for it too.
Is it just because we call it 'football'? Like an affront to real football, so you take issue with it? Is it because you don't understand all of the complexities so it doesn't make sense to you? Why the disdain?
There's a lot of talented and extremely quick-thinking minds that go into a successful American Football NFL game. I guess it isn't running back and forth kicking a ball at the other guy's head or anything near so complex as that but it deserves at least a nod and a tip of the hat because it is one of the most complicated games ever invented.
I played 'safety' position for a bit and I can't even explain how fast my mind had to process a dozen things at once in a split second. I also played soccer... erm... football... when I was at school and I really only thought of a couple things as I ran back and forth, who is open, who has the ball, and do I have a shot. American version is like the quadratic formula by comparison.

Its not because of the sport. Its the horrific American beer thats drunk at American football events...

Same reason Americans aren't bothered about soccer. It's a cultural thing.
When there is Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby Leauge, Footie, Beer and Skittles , Ale and Pie Racing, not to mention Tiddley Winks and Conkers we don't have time for Grid Iron.
Don't forget that oop North, we also have the whippets to walk, pigeon gakk to clean and get the ferrets out of our kegs, lad.
Time for a spot of Wellie Wanging I reckon.

I am halfway through a bottle of learning that warm beer isn't really very good. However... I continue to drink it on principle. By the way, off topic, no matter what ANYONE tries to tell you, a Beer/Ice cream float is just not a good idea.

That's the ROOT of the problem.
I'm sorry.
But a lot of people don't get that american football comes from rugby and not UK football.
We had Association Football that was called soccer or football and we had rugby football and then we had "football" which had no name at the time.
While UK football went by two names at the time Rugby only went by Rugby or Ruggers(both names incredibly similar) so we decided to call our rugby version "football" and call Rugby "Rugby" and call UK football "soccer".
We were so distant from europe so we had no interaction(plus you guys never really called anyways) that's why the US and Canada call it soccer. Automatically Appended Next Post: But america is full of tinkerers, we came up with homemade guns, homemade flamethrowers, chainsaw powered air compressors, mass production of vehicles and mass production of food(McDonalds). We also gave the Greeks some ideas about the Trojan horse.
