But your character in Diablo does level though and you get new abilties/spells at higher levels. And the talent tree system was revolutionary for video games.

I mean yeah the story in the first one was a bit lacking, as you were always going deeper and deeper into the Cathedral to kill more and more demons. But I think that was the story and you got little side quests and stuff.

It's true Diablo 1 wasn't as story engrossing as other RPG titles and Diablo 2 had alot more story driven events and location, but it wasn't that terrible. (well...for its time, heh)

But I can see where you could look at it as an action/adventure/rpg style game and I can't complain, I love hacking and BBQ'ing demons in dungeons!

I'm eagerly awaiting the 3rd one, so I can do the same in some nice graphics.

Yea I saw someone mention Final Fantasy10 earlier, and Ive got to add that to my list. I REALLY hate the way the art work has looked for years, but I easily got over it on 10. That was just hands down, a really good game.

I think Masters of Orion is an absolutely great strategy game, but no way in the world could I actually call it an RPG.

MOO2 is genius game design, but definitely not an RPG in my opinion. My favorite RPGs come from childhood. Final Fantasy 1, The Magic Candle 1 and 2, Ultima IV and V. Newest RPG I have tried and liked was Morrowind, which was very cool for its non-linear plot (reason I liked Magic Candle) and 'do whatever you want' kind of approach.

What would Yeenoghu do?
