Chainsaw depends on how the becoming a zombie works. If it's a disease carried in the bloodstream, a chainsaw is a very bad idea. Just imagine the amount of splatter a chainsaw would create and you'll get the idea.

Yeah, anything that's good enough to stop a bite works perfectly. Other than that, go for comfort and weight reduction.
And, don't forget to factor in that a zombie's muscles are decaying, and without functioning organs, it's muscles would barely have enough strength to do anything. I'm not even convinced a zombie bite could break skin.
That may be true in the later stages but initially they'll be stronger then us simply because they wouldn't have the mental blocks preventing over use of their muscles.
what mental blocks?
Under normal circumstances a person can't use 100% of their muscle power as this does result in some damage to the body. Because of this you subconsciously put limits in place so that you don't harm yourself. It's possible to get around them with training, drugs, or similar but normally you can't intentionally push your body that hard.

my own personal zombie apocolipse survival plan is thus gather my usefull friends thogether gather any and all food supplies that are to hand and invade/sieze a mental health unit that I happen to work at (its already prepared with extra sercrity windows that don't allow acces through security doors security glass and food stocks the unfortunate thing is having to dispence with the more uncontrolable/useless members of the patient body. and sit it out fortunatly my friends are regular airsofters so know how to handle weapons (yes I know the difference between real firearms and airsoft replicas but at least they and I know how to load a real firearm and aim) and fortunatly my friend has a shotgun licence and regularly goes clay shooting so can be relied upon for being able to actualy shoot. apart from that my weapon of choice would have to be a rifle that fires 9mm ammo as it should be the most availible ammo and you have to think about lasting power in such cercumstances. If I lived in the US it wouldn't be such an issue because boxes of ammo are regularly left on the shelf at walmart.

I agree with part anyways. Hell I stopped for gas once, and I saw some ammo for sale at the gas station. It was a fun place, even had a mounted buffalo head on the wall behind the cashier!

so not commenting on my plan to let a bunch of impressonable folks with mental health problems fend for themselves,,, hey I figure that if it comes down to a zombie apocolipse its survival of the fittest and only those who have real world skills and have something to contribute are worth the effort of saving, a bunch of folks whore going to drain my resorces for very little payback arn't going to be on my save list

Reason being, that hospitals have ALOT of bodies, which means a higher chance for infection. Thats it. I agree man, when the gak hits the fan, Im staying alive, and you suddenly become spit to me (GAH quotes are at it again!!!)

I'm quite lucky in that regard that the site that I work at is mostly derelict old victorian mental institute and its soo of the beaten track its a fifteen minute walk to the nearest bus stop which is quite a distance in the UK so the number of bodies on site is probably way less than a single small village probably only 120-150 folks on a site thats quite a few achres not counting staff. and its in the country so lots of wild rabbits to hunt for food
