This. Its a proven fact, that zombies +fire = flaming zombies. Remeber they wont react to fire like humans. Catch me on fire and Im flailing and screaming and burning to death. A zombie with just keep lumbering towards you until its completely burned up.

Also their is more then just recoil to deal with IRL when firing a weapon.Specially one that can shoot as far as a rifle. Its not like a video game where you line you your crosshair and the bullet goes strait forever+ youve got to deal with bullet drop rate, the wind plays a huge part in where a bullet will land, how fast the target is moving, and so on and so on and so on. Thats why I laughed so hard. Sure they can play that when shooting a squirrel in a tree 50 yards away, why not. But anything more then say 100 yards and that "sniper rifle" will seem mighty inaccurate

Recoil is not fun. This I had explained to me in painstaking detail the first time I shot a 12 gauge shotgun.

Damn they are fun though.

And once you get used to it the recoil actually isn't too bad.

i guess you can yctually quite get used to react apropriate to a recoil. the thing that non-gun-users tend to forget is while you aim--shot--- bullet flies you also have that nasty BAAAANG ... which will give the unexpected shooter friend a hell of a ringing in the ears and eventually have him getting chomped up by the rest of the undead party...
for me it was quite a thing to get used to, cause i don´t like sharp and loud noises. but to use wool or other things to protect the ears i would totally dismiss right away. to much of your combat sense rely on hearing...otherwise you swiftly get a nasty bite in the back...

Having not fired a firearm in many a long year and also as i'm not a gamer and have never played call of duty or anything of a similar vein, i'm going to just go out on a limb here and ask santa for the semi automatic combat shotgun I saw on youtube a while back, looks like a barrel of limbs....i mean laughs.... and as backup i'm seriously packing a razor sharp vietnam era machette! it's beautifully weighted and if the zombies get to close it's got a rather pleasing swing with a blade that's not too long as to be cumbersome! but i'm hoping the shotty will suffice!

I lol at people that base anything about firearms from a video game. I enjoy playing them, but I base all of my opinions off of either first hand experiences or reviews by writers in the gun community.

Clowns like these deserve this kind of lambasting. KingCracker is right about a bullet, there are far more variables to shooting than just "point and click"

Electronic head gear filters loud decibel noises but has microphones installed so normal sounds are transferred through.

Besides, ear protection isnb't that good, you can still hear plenty. I've had phone conversations at the range with ear protection on.

Snuper rifles? Shotguns? Pah, if you want something killing, kill it with fire.

I know the whole "the only thing worse than a zombie chasing you is a zombie chasing you whilst on fire" thing, but fire is just far too cool to pass up.

FIRE FOR EVERYONE! *runs around with a zippo setting stuff on fire and laughing like a maniac*

(If fire isn't your cup of tea, then kill it with explosives; it's the closest you're gunna get to fire that also won't set zombies alight)

It also depends on the zombie type. If we're talking shufflers then I think melee is the way to go. No ammo problems or gun jams. But if they're the fast kind then a gun is probably better.

I mean this is what I'd do, having only used a bolt-action rifle like once and a pistol a few more times.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The reason why sniper rifles work so well in video games is that hardly any games implement realistic bullet physics.

The game engine just adds damage points to whatever is in front of the gun when you press the button. IRL obviously the bullet takes time to fly to the target who often moves away.

The second thing is that video games usually give you an instant kill for a head shot, compared to the other weapons just reducing hit points a bit. Obviously IRL most people shot anywhere with any proper bullet tend to give up the fight and seek cover.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Sure if youve never touched a gun before and played a video game first, youd at least get the basics about how it works. Theres still a HUGE difference when comparing being good at shooting people in a video game, versus shotting them in real life.

Especially when talking about shooting like a Sniper. I would put any amount of money that I have to my name that I don't care how good someone is at CoD they aren't going to be able to snipe a moving target from 500 meters away.

may i ask how much that would cost me? sound like a very useful item.

as for the other mentiones of uses of fire and explosives heck even grenades, i wouldn´t use them. personaly i would always use shotguns. also you have a fine piece of metal and wood in your hand as a last resort. also i would mostly use buckshots as with zombies i want to be sure they´re put down for good. nothing says dead zomby like a wide spread of limbs all over the area. and the possability to hit multiple targets is nothing to be sneezed at in times of stress...

Not really, most people forget it was intended to be used by men wearing thick coats. Hence the smallish butt. Since it was Russian made, it was also never intended to have any decent ergonomic qualities either.

I'm confused, what practical purpose could that gun in the picture serve? Doesn't look stable enough to snipe, and the pistol grip looks like the recoil would throw you out of aim very badly due to kinetic force traveling through the handle into your wrist intead of through a stock into your shoulder.

I've only fired a gun about twice in my life, so this is purely laymans observation.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

It has a lot of recoil, whether or not it hurts depends on the person firing it and what they're wearing. A nice heavy coat will protect you, T-shirts not so much.

Also an important thing to note is model of Nagant and accessories being used. My nagant is a 1891/30(common as hell and cheap) and has a nice flat metal butt plate.

I usually wear a nice heavy jacket when I fire it.

Basically it was small enough to carry around, look at certain weapons and you can see who used them. Paratroopers usually used smaller guns, but still needed something with kick. The Mosin Nagant is about 4 feet long so jumping out of a plane or being stealthy with it isn't going to happen. The smaller version is more portable, it would suck as a sniper tool and it would suck as a pistol. It would succeed as a smaller version of a mainstream rifle.

Although, I truly hope that the weapon shown is fake at least for the sake of all the russians serving during WW2.
