Well yes... is that obvious. If the world's going to hell and doing anything other than holding up in a sealed room is risking your life, I for one am gonna enjoy every moment I have.

That being said, large chunks of the net will be down, so on the almost unthinkable chance that our knowledge of "Aim for the head!!!" doesn't win over some of the fairer sex (or the more plausible case of peoples skills not being up to par to keep other alive as well), I propose we establish meeting points to exchange and help preserve "pre-Zday data".

That sounds completely reasonable right?

may i ask how much that would cost me? sound like a very useful item.

as for the other mentiones of uses of fire and explosives heck even grenades, i wouldn´t use them. personaly i would always use shotguns. also you have a fine piece of metal and wood in your hand as a last resort. also i would mostly use buckshots as with zombies i want to be sure they´re put down for good. nothing says dead zomby like a wide spread of limbs all over the area. and the possability to hit multiple targets is nothing to be sneezed at in times of stress...

Its an old joke about recoil.

M16 shooters: Whats recoil?
AK 47 shooters: The AK is a fine rifle who's recoil lets you know you've just shot a man's gun.
Nagant shooters: Recoil is no big deal. You just shoot the second shot from your left shoulder to snap the right should back into place.

This. Its a proven fact, that zombies +fire = flaming zombies. Remeber they wont react to fire like humans. Catch me on fire and Im flailing and screaming and burning to death. A zombie with just keep lumbering towards you until its completely burned up.

The problem with that is that a flamethrowers flames are hot enough to physically melt flesh and muscle completely in less than a minute if not put out by something. In fact, usually in a matter of seconds. This is against a healthy human mind you, you know, one who hasn't already lost half their flesh and muscle because, you know, they are still alive.

In the book World War Z, the whole number of zombies vs number of bullets thing is addressed pretty well. Basically these shovels that are sharpened on the edges are given to all the soldiers because its more cost effective than bullets when you are dealing with 3.5-4 billion zombies.

It sound slike you're talking about an E-tool (entrenchment tool). Basically a collapsible shovel, with one side having a serrated edge.

Maybe on the east coast, out here all the taxi drivers are Sikh and speak Hindi.

same story on the east coast.

I did a few sums about that.

Assume the sniper rifle is shot at a target 250 metres away and its bullet velocity at 200 metres is 700 metres per second.

Assume the target is a man jogging or running at 16 kmh.

The bullet will take 0.35 seconds to reach the target.

During this interval, the target will have moved 1.5 metres, so the sniper needs to aim that far ahead as well as accounting for the ballistic arc.

Not easy.

However in video games there is no flight time or bullet drop.

In Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor (2010) there most certainly is flight time and bullet drop. Especially in the MoH campaign, where the game simulates taking shots that have a 3-4 second flight time

Go ahead and melt a zombie in less then a minute. Hell puff them so bad it takes less then 10 secs to melt......thats still around 10secs of a fire zombie trying to NOM NOM your brains and insides. The flame thrower argument is pretty moot. 10-60 seconds to have one die? Or just a loud bang, and its dead, you know, as in dead dead? Because they are dead?

and for the burning zombies thing i think only someone with a serious deathwish wants to use that on a walking corpse...seriously the point in shooting flames to living beings is to make them feel harm the hard way...there is no point in giving walking objects that feel no pain at all great pain. waht a zomby stops is impact and rendering cuts...so either cut limb from limb or shoot the frigging head of and if the caliber aloows a lot of its upper front to...

No way is a sniper rifle a good choice for a weapon in a zombie apocalypse scenario. You need to take out large swarms of zombies quickly, not take 10 seconds lining up a shot on a zombie so far away it will take him an hour to stumble over to you.

The best item for zombies isn't a weapon at all. The best item is a good full-body suit of chainmail. It may be heavy, but nothing is going to bite its way through. Then you can take as much time killing them as you want.

Also, here is my tip for zombies. They don't have the ability to regenerate damaged tissue. Just hole up somewhere with a slingshot and start taking dudes out. Make sure you have water, and laugh as zombies tear muscles pounding at your fortress door. Sip that water. Laughing at zombies whose arms are too messed up to lift anymore is gonna be awesome, and you may laugh yourself hoarse.

I will, the zombie is rendered immobile after only a few seconds and left to roast in its own skin until its a pile of ash.

Yeah, anything that's good enough to stop a bite works perfectly. Other than that, go for comfort and weight reduction.

And, don't forget to factor in that a zombie's muscles are decaying, and without functioning organs, it's muscles would barely have enough strength to do anything. I'm not even convinced a zombie bite could break skin.

Pretty much this, climb up somewhere high, then lock the door/ kick away the ladder. (With a stockpile). Rely on wolves to eat all the zombies. No idea what to do about the wolves though.

i think in terms of beliving that something could actualy animate a dead person, either virus or magic... will give it the needed strenght to be a dire oponent... also dont forget ants! ants you ask? yeah small and not so hard all in all but since they attack en masse, they are a force to respect... and i wouldn´t want to hide. i think when your in a violent situation hiding will help you only so long. i think this would be so dreadful that the only working option would be fighting. as seen in so many movies lurkes get eaten eventualy...
