ok ... the link rpovided a pic and the text also sums up what i thought.... in my opinion they are as close to a fly as 40k wants to be getting at...^^

so i hereby throw another suggestion into the ring...what about a sentient pantlife? humanoid plants...that are able to walk around...well nids would cover the fighting style pretty well but the lok could be quite cool...imagine them battling catachans in a living jungle... would give the term jungle warrior a whole new meaning^^

oh and shrike don´t let us disturb you from adding new updates on your fluff^^...as is this thread seems to be highjacked^^

did you mean converted nids? now even a paintjob would give you a good way to do this... all greenish.... this could go well indeed... and whips of warriors would go good as vuines and stuff...
also there was once a mini i saw on ebay... that was a walking plantman... not THE plantman from batman or other and i don´t talk dryads... which would in itself be a good idea but it was from a whole different range ...darn forgott which one this came from...

found the range...enigma miniatures...it is...

here are some ebay link if you are interrested in them...:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Enigma-FIRSTBORN-54mm-OU-SCHAA-DRYAD-PRINCESS-nib-/330615270042?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item4cfa34aa9a
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dushatar-Forest-Creature-Enigma-Miniatures-/260856690528?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3cbc453760

and from reaper there are also some nice ones out there...:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sildoran-Protector-Treeman-Reaper-Miniatures-14622-/260856306577?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3cbc3f5b91

and of course the minis from GW in LOtR and WHFB would do great too... mix the occasional nid bit in and you are ste^^

oh and a little treat as a teaser:

[img]http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/MotP/Wood_Element_Leopard.jpg

well, it seems that it's pulling more followers into the fold, so I'm not compaining ^^
I'm liking the 'nid-like plants, but how to explain thier existence without using the cheesy "experiment gone wrong" or "mysterious out-of-world thing lands on planet"

maybe a small tyranid infestation was happening, and priority #1 for them was to get strong enough to overrun the planet, and so they bonded with local plantlife (much like parasites), slowly fused into them and became plant 'nids?

just throwing ideas in ^^

i ´d go for heavy mutilated liveform due to a terminatus strike that went wrong...all lifeforms stayed put and then the lifeforce of the plnet regained strenght anew and formed this strange new form....survival of the fittest yet again... and now it is paybacktime!

I like that idea, but I might edit it a tad...
after a suspected taint, the planet was declared exterminatus, and the imperial navy commenced orbital bombardment. There was too much explosive feedback coming out that any biological scans came back with wildly variating readings- too much for any conclusive result. Taking no chances, they locked all import and export from the planet. Inquisitor Velox heard about this and arrived in-system to authorise the planet's freedom or further lockdown, depending on results once the feedback died down.
Before that happened, Lenore and company crash landed and discovered that the botched exterminatus strike had accellerated the local wildlife's evolution and produced life forms who heavily mutated to survive the radiation of the exterminatus.
Any animals which couldn't evolve in time were obliterated, as were every imperial guard expedition team to dare to set foot on the planet. Astartes are made of sterner stuff, which is why the raven guard weren't dead.

later, once the astartes were extracted, Velox studied the DNA of the mutations gathered from the raven guard's knives and armour and created a virus bomb capable of destroying them, which was fired at the surface of the planet.
sound good?

Sounds pretty cool. However you'll have to change the story a fair bit to get that in there.

Ok, shrike, if you really want me to add a real good suggestion, here it is!

The second exterminatus, keep it, but make so that a few escaped (some how)
That would leave you (or a certain other person ) able to expand on it and make a load of fluff for them, maybe even make an army for them!

You could make it so the Raven Guard re-meet up with them, real later in time when the tree-things have more numbers.

good decision shrike... and something i had too in mind, matt.... just creating a race for the killing fun and then be where you started would be boring.... but that storyline has lots of potential!!!

shrike, didn´t you say one of your fellow gamers had a nids army? i might be wrong...

I did. Not one of my fellows though. No one really likes him, he's a sore loser who endlesly boasts when he's not losing.
