So.... I've been busy. I've had Netflix's Daredevil playing in the background while I've been painting, and I've gotten some good work done.
First things first, apologies for the gak pictures but they're taken with an iPhone as that's the best I have at the moment. So the first pic is the test model for painting the little Dark Mechanicus menials. I was considering going a normal bone skull look, but I figured a dark look with glowing eyes makes them look like little daemonic helpers so that's the route I went. I don't think I'm going to rust up their weapons, but I will make them fairly oily. I want them to look distinctively different from the rest of the models in my army, but as I add more of the buggers I'll make them in different stages of corruption, as the infections of nurgle are a spectrum rather than a black and white deal. So here's the test, don't mind the unpainted skull on his vest. Also, his feet will be covered in mud so that's why I didn't care to highlight the features.
Thoughts on ways to take this? Comments, suggestions, anything are appreciated. I'm more interested in thematic ideas for how to approach the idea of "Dark Mechanicus assisting a nurgle warband" but slowly becoming part of them, like, what elements would convey this?
So next up are some plague zombies / traitor guardsmen. The idea when making them was that a contingent of the
IG that the Lords of Decay are fighting have switched sides, died, or have been converted over to the forces of Nurgle. I want to be able to play these guys as plague zombies, cultists, or regular
IG so I've modeled them appropriately.
Again, sorry for the gakky pics but here's a closeup of one of the grenadiers and a group shot of the backs of some of the guys whose armor has fallen or been ripped off.
So I painted their armor green to go in with the theme of a normal
IG camo scheme. Keep in mind all of the terrain and stuff posted earlier with the green tank hulls, muddy terrain, and silver trinkets. So here's the question: keep the green and add
IG insignias and iconography, or change it to a muted red with nurgle and chaos symbols to suit the rest of my army? The pros of keeping the green are that it shows their origins, which is cool. The cons are that it doesn't fit in with the rest of my army, as they look quite alien when placed next to the rest of my troops with their muted reds and browns. The pros of the red is that it's better able to show that these are the "bad guys" so to say and it fits in with my army. However, I can't thematically make sense why a bunch of plague zombies would have a different colored armor than the troops that they were in a different life, it's not like they have the technical skills to paint their armor? I know it's getting stuck up on details, but this whole army is made or broken by details. So what are your thoughts?
That's all for now!
