Hey guys! I've been a real long time lurker on the Dakka, but I figured that this was a good a time as any to show off my Lords of Decay army that's in progress. Basically I'm building it for adepticon 2012, so with that in mind there will be some surprises that I wont show off until adepticon has finished, seeing as many people on the intertubes go to that event...

But anyways, yeah, 2000 pts of Lords of Decay. If you don't know about them, they're a genocidal warband that splintered off of the Death Guard, they were the main insurgents in the Vraks campaign, their base of operations is this huge space hulk called "The Monolith of Woe" and they are one of the most belligerent warbands in the entire galaxy, their most famous action was a direct strike on the Sol system, where 4000 Plague Marines fought against the Custodes and Grey Knights on Pluto, and although they were slaughtered to the last man, it shook the entire Solar System's concept of being unreachable.

So here's my stuff:

First up: a Rhino:

Next, a Vindicator:

My Hell Blade air support:

and lastly for now, my newest creation, a biomechanical obliterator that has succumbed to Nurgle's Rot on his long voyage in the hold of a Lords of Decay Strike Cruiser:

So yeah, that's all for now! I'm working on another vindicator at the moment, and I'll have pics of that up soon, plus, a tutorial on how to paint the armor on a Lords of Decay vehicle, so stay tuned! I'll try to update this as frequently as I can. If you want to see WIP pics, I could do that too, or, you could visit my album at:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-user.jsp?u=39799
and see for yourselves

C&C appreciated!

Oblit is very nice, also nice work with the tank greenstuff work. But the real strength of these models is the weathered paint job. That peeling, flaking effect is 5 star. Great stuff.

Well it's time for an update!

The last one isn't done. I just got him to round off the unit a little while ago, and haven't had time to really go all out on this one as I was really trying to finish the other 4 up and get them ready for the table. So without further ado:

Group Shot:

Champion:

My favorite from the whole bunch:

Heavy weapons terminator, with magnetized weapon arm so that he can switch between heavy flamer, reaper, and combi melta, that is, when I build him a heavy flamer and reaper :bum:

Terminator 4, the standard bearer. In most games he won't count as having a banner as this is a termicide unit. But in apocalypse...

Termi 5, wip guy:

Tell me whatcha think, any suggestions for the last termi's torso?

Very nice. I love the depth you have on the deay on the rhinos. Did you use the salt method for that?

Hey guys!

So I've spent the last day or 2 painting some terminators. I needed to test the scheme and see how well it works on troop sized models, and I think it came out nicely. I think I overdid it on the damage though, especially on the champ, so I'll tone that down on the next batch of models which will include the 3 remaining terminators and 14 plague marines.

Champion:

And my personal favorite of the bunch again:

rwzimmerman wrote:Very nice. I love the depth you have on the deay on the rhinos. Did you use the salt method for that?

Yes indeed! I need to use a weaker hairspray though because some of this salt will *not* come off!

Thanks for looking guys! C&C?

I like your paint scheme It's not the usual putrid green, but still says "Nurgle."

Keep it up!

Thanks guys! I agree, this is a much better use for the obliterator models, sure, they may have a larger profile, but they look damn good if I do say so myself

The heads are from Maxmini.eu , the zombie heads range.

The terminator squad is awesome. I may (try...) to use that Obliterator idea nikolakhs, though I am sure it will not come out looking as good.

Are you going for a Terminator Lord as well?

Like you already noticed on B&C, I'm a big fan of your work. Now I'm also bothering you here since this thread deserves a lot more support than it currently has!

If you are still looking for reinforcements for your Lost and Damned forces you might take a look at these for Plague Zombies, or maybe try these ones if you want to go for a more civilian feel.

Some of these heads might be nice for your reinforcements...

By the way, I noticed the Obliterator has a yellow marine helmet strapped to it, got any story behind it?

By the way, take a look at the Obliterators Adrian Smith drew, or at least...I guess they are Obliterators.

For the other Obliterators I guess you could use whatever bits you have left over from that metal Daemon Prince, or maybe even get that newer plastic one. Or maybe get the Lord of Pestilence from Ultraforge, he would of could need some heavy converting.

Yes, eventually one will be made

Malika, thank you very much for those links! Those are ace! And the oblit artwork! that's the kind of stuff that keeps me inspired and going, thanks very much for sharing! I like those cyclops and blight heads, and those civvie zombies are something I'm really lookin into as well!

I'm actually going to buy 1 more metal DP and make him all cybernetic, and the last DP will be similar to a techmarine gone fully rogue, controlling the other 2 oblits. Since I'll be making a crashed ship as their display board, the idea is that all the obliterators were in charge of the engineering section, as at one point it was a techmarine and his retinue, but over time, they became corrupted and ended up in the state they're in now. I'll be using the drill from inquisitor Gruss on one and give him melta weapons to boot, and the other one will have major flamer action and plasma action going on, to show that they each had a certain role in the engine room.

and the yellow helmet haha, that's because there was a helmet there and it needed a color. And I used to play imperial fists so I've gotten real hang of painting yellow

Thanks guys!

Have you thought about adding weirder stuff like Raptors and such? You could do cool some twisted Raptors using the Carrion wings and some mechanical parts. Even cooler would be if you could get your hands on some 3rd edition era Raptor backpacks!

You could go into an even weirder route and also include Berzerkers, Noise Marines and Thousand Sons, but instead of actually making those units you create weird Nurgle-esque units that could simply count as the cult-units of the other Gods. Noise Marines could be Lords of Decay with weird chemical weapons.

Malika, ever heard the saying "Great minds think alike?" haha.

In fact, you have listed my ideas for raptors completely right there! Eventually I want to have 2 squads, 1 squad with the old RT era backpacks, but with an extra booster added to the back. And then 1 squad with a more modern type of backpack, but mixed in with some of the sanguinary guard backpacks and some of the FW Heresy era backpacks.

For the carrion wings, that's a great idea, but the price keeps me away from it. There'd be a lot of modelling involved, more so than for the terminators, and the only way I could make it feasible would be to make a casting, which I don't have the materials or time for right now :(

Another idea I have that I want to make, is these guys:
Chaos Lord on palanquin He will be the ship's captain, it'll be mainly a show off mini.

Lords of Decay Close combat Dread This uses the parts from Krash "Thrax" Krieger from Inquisitor, and I really really love the way it looks. There's Nurgle FW Dread's all the time on ebay for the same price if not cheaper than the plastics, so I was thinking of pretty much outright copying this guy's ideas and adding a few of my own as well.

A Squad of 7 Juggernaut mounted bikers These speak for themselves. Pure awesomeness wrapped inside of a spiky and mushy package.

None of those are mine and I don't want to do mine exactly like that, but those are the inspirations I'm drawing upon for the squads. In 2 weeks time I will have 2 Dreadclaws that will be added to this army, and that is the extent of any FW support that this army will be receiving for a long long time haha.

It's a shame GW doesn't sell these bits separately anymore, you might be able to try from a second hand site or trading site?

If you're doing the Lord on a Palanquin, make the thing more biomechanical, it's more fitting with the feel of your force.

As for the Juggernauts, dont forget to have intestines hanging out of the creature's gut, being dragged along on the ground!
