In the grim darkness of the future, everyone is the same size...?

I see no problem with slight size discrepancies between marines.

mainly my problem stems from the Catachkin line of IG. Old Cats are noticably smaller than new Cats. Old Cats look to be in scale with a space marine....a little smaller, a little less bulky than a marine in PA. New Catachkins are monsters, they're about the same size as a marine in PA. I just don't like the size creep. Another example are the two DA company masters that came out for last edition. They're sporting PA but they're really big PAs, like big as / bigger than termies. I don't know it they were supposed to be larger than life (figuratively) or what.

Anyways, it just makes me grind my teeth a little. They'll still be used. Still be loved just like the rest of the box.

Ummmm... you've got the Catachan line backwards. Those mini Ogryn that come in the 10 man infantry squad boxes are the older kit, and I think they're one of the first plastic IG kits released. The command box however is much newer and is significantly smaller in scale. If anything, it's size SHRINKING over time. Which is good, because the old plastic catachans are hideous.

Cadians then maybe. A friend of mine has had IG for about 12 years now and we've had this size creep conversation at least several times in recent years and he's even shown me some of the new ones vs. the old ones. And the new ones are bigger than the old ones.

Are you sure dude? From what I recall that's where the IG size-creep started. Those original metal Catachans, as beautiful as they were, were very tall men, and were the same size as Marines of the time (2nd Ed). All the Guard that came out over the next few month were the same, but the Catachans were the bulkiest (with the Mordians being the slightest).

Yes the cadians are the bigger ones now. With their armor and their proportions, they're about the same size as a marine. I always found that more than a little rediculous. The Guardsmen from all lines should be the same size as the Catachan command sprue, as they're much closer in line scalewise with the marines.

The green Marine is further back from the camera. If he was moved forward to the same position as the new marine, they would be very close to identical in height:

Hmmm. Was going to pass this edition's starter set. Damn those chaos grubbies look too good to pass up. I wonder how much work it would be to convert those Angels to Templars. De-winging them looks like it may be a pain.

Are the pauldrons molded on, or are they seperate? That would be the deal breaker I believe.

Moulded on. Bit of work with a knife and a file could de-wing them, but it would be quite tricksy work.

You mean the shoulder pads on the DA's? Yeah. They're moulded right on there, just like every other starter-set Marine (barring 3rd Ed).

I'm still angry those legs were molded on. I know that makes it super convenient for any SM player, but it really sucks when I was going to use them for ork bikes. Oh well, maybe I can still figure something out. I'll look at em again next time I'm at my FLGS and maybe I can figure a way out to shave them off...

Thanks for the size comparison pics and showing that one model is actually slightly further away as well.

So they are probably the same size.

But the Chosen are fairly massive for being 'PA' Chaos. But as was said, Chaos can get away with variation.

I have a question, I know that this is the starter set and all but why didn't GW include any points costs for the models. I bought 3 of the box sets to bolster my already existing Chaos army and have looked through the information that came with them and could not find points costs. Does this mean that possibly the Chaos Codex is due to arrive soon?

Picked one up today at the FLGS, very impressed with the models.

The mold quality is excellent, and because they're "single pose" they have a lot of detail baked in. The DAs are a bit less impressive than the Chaos stuff, but that stuff is really, really great.

A great deal at the price they're asking, especially since the "little" rulebook is much preferrable for actually playing the game, and an extra set of templates and scatter dice never hurts.

Might convince me to paint up some Chaos (which is the point, right?).

I got a chance to look at an open box today at a local store and it was sort of Meh...

The hellbrute wasnt as big in real life as I expected he would be.

The cultists didnt pop as much as I had hoped. The Chaplain is a nice model.

I think I'm all set with this one.

we understand your mad because theres no trees in this set, dont have to gak on it because your not interested in them..

I'm sorry I didnt know I needed fanboi approval to post in this thread...

Fanboy? lol to far from the truth. I bust GW's balls all the time. But when they do a good job it's ok not to hate them people.
My main problem is, I have kept following this thread for awhile now, every post I have seen you do so far is just putting the set down
because there is no terrain inside. Which you seem to love which is fine.

Just because you are not interested in the set does not mean you can gak on it, for no real reason.
yes there is some things that are not the best, but good lord it's better then any other starter I have seen.

Anyone buying this starter to convert the Dark Angels to another chapter?

Any of those same excellent individuals willing to drop those feather banner poles from the bikes (that they likely chopped off to throw into the bin or the bits box) in an envelope and mail them to me in California?

I have over 20 Ravenwing bikes and would love to convert the banners poles to this new style...

Long Jetty, The place is a dump

Well i ordered mine from a friend in Britian and it cost me $95.00 AuD saving me $85.00, and i am very pleased about that.

Anywho, i am in heaven as i intended to begin a new army and have decided to begin a Dark Angels chapter called "Angels of Benediction"

Not only that but also i will expand the Dark Angels as fallen to be led by Cypher and incorporate them into my "Sons of Achaylus" Chaos Space Marines Army at this point in time is about 20,000 points.

I'll be looking at Ebay soon for additional units, especially cultists as my Sons of Achaylus" will field 100 of them.

Should be getting my set this weekend. I'll be buying locally, and splitting with a buddy. My FLGS at least has the LE box for $165.

So $80au gets me the Chaos models, dice and templates. Not bad. He gets the Dark Angels, LE chaplain and mini rulebook for $85.

Almost a week later than release date after pre-ordering it...
Probably won't be pre-ordering it from the website again. Will go through the local GW store in the future.

The starter sets have never included the point costs for the units inside them.

The Chaos Space Marine codex should be out in September/October. There is a huge rumor thread on it in this News and Rumor Forum here.

just started putting mine together, and I have a question

why do they suggest that you pose all the Termies so there is a pile of something between their legs?

every one they have something, a head of a cultist and a daemon, spent shells and a skull on 2, spent shells on the last one. I had to re position them all cause to me, it looked like the suit had just emptied the septic tank.

I would guess so - I'd expect a plastic box for them, and some nice rules to help sell the plastic box.

Ordered my standard DV set from an independent retailer and it still hasn't shipped. Called today and was told that GW has delayed the release by some arbitrary, unspecified amount of time. Sigh..
