Yeah, seems like they aren't what they used to be. I'm not worried too much though. Who else makes good revolvers? Colt? Not anymore. Taurus? Don't make me laugh!

To my knowledge: niether.
Winchester hasn't built a revolver since Hugo Borchart designed one for them, if your wondering why that name looks familiar:

I guess technically he was the second to last guy to design a revolver for Winny, but the Mason design was never submitted for review to anyone...cept maybe Colt as a thinly vieled threat.

The last Remington revolver was probably the 1875 but I'm not a big fan of Big Green so I'm not sure.

In answer to who makes a good revolver. SW makes faithful almost copies of Colt wheel guns with relatively good fit and finish. And Ruger remains an industry standard, even if no one actually remembers who they are. Probably because Bill Ruger sold us down the river.

My grandfather used to have several Ruger pistols, one in .38 and another in .44 special. He liked them. He was surprised when I gave him the "lol ruger" look, because as far as he was concerned, they were excellent pistols, and totally fool-proof.

They make a bunch of garbage now, the 10-22 and the mini-14, which I think everyone has ignored with all the ARs on the market for relatively cheap. A neighbor of mine recently got a 10-22 Takedown. He likes it a lot, but he was a little bummed that he was going to have an impossible time modifying the barrel portion

I wouldn't turn down a Cylinder & Slide Trident 1911, but I don't know if it's necessarily my dream gun.

Maybe the BHP that Mike Rosseau used to inadvertently invent the failure-to-stop drill.

I'd get a genuine P226 Navy, not what Sig started calling the "Navy" after Cohen took over. The new "Navy" lacks the phosphate-coated internals that comes on the 226s that Crane buys for the go-faster guys. Pretty sure the Mark 25 or whatever Sig's calling it is the closest equivalent these days.

Yah my wife's father has an OG navy the stainless one wth the phosphate interior. And he said he'd sell it to me some day. He also has a bunch of other serviceman/SF related firearms ill get eventually. But he's a healthy ex army dude so doubt he's going down anytime soon.

And maritime cups are something sig put Into the gun that seals out the compartment where the hammer strikes the ammo to allow it to fire wet.

I'm not a fan of semi-autos in general, but if I wanted one, it would either be a 1911 or a Luger. They're both venerable icons in their own right, and ammo is still plentiful.

There's just something I like about wheel-guns though. They aren't really practical for anything, but there's a subtle reassurance in having one in your hand.

What's impractical about a wheel gun? .38 or .357 is plenty lethal. Even an old colt SAA in .45LC will do you just fine for anything you might need it for.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

'Tis true! I know many people who conceal S&W J frames because of how small and light they are.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I've always imagined a wheel-gun would be kind of awkward to concealed carry. No matter where you put it, the wheel seems kind of awkward. I'm sure I'm not thinking of it creatively enough. Police officers managed to do it for a while.

I don't have the credentials, or any need to concealed carry, or even open carry, so it doesn't matter to me though :3

How does that work? I'd think the caliber would be something important

When used with an IWB holster, a J frame disappears. Short people, tall people, fat people, skinny people. It always vanishes.

Get the Baer when you get the opportunity. I have a Custom Carry that is, far and away, the most accurate handgun I've ever shot, and it's proving to have HK-like reliability. It's in the middle of a 2,000 round no cleaning/maintenance/lubing challenge at the moment, and it's had zero problems. I have a hard time talking myself out of making it my primary carry gun every time I think about it.

An LCP, Solo, or equivalent from any manufacturer is definitely smaller.

Does anyone else here simply not care about a gun's practical use? Am I the only ne who collects historical stuff just for the sake of having it/plinking a bit? I mean, I might at some point get ONE gun for self defense, but the rest of my collection will generally be old military stuff and the occasional target rifle.

I own a combat ready hand and a half sword, if that counts. When I bought my first (and only thus far) pistol, I knew it was going to be a 1911. I have always loved the looks first, and when I was finally able to fire one, I fell more in love with them because of performance. Growing up, my family owned several muzzle loading rifles, including a smoothbore Kentucky Long-gun, a .54 caliber Thompson Center rifle, and a .45 caliber TC "buffalo rifle" I wouldn't mind owning another muzzle loader, simply for the fun of shooting them, really quite fun to fire them.

All weapons are practical in some sense or another, but I prioritize some weapons over others based on it being cool.

Yah your not the only person to tell me this haha. Last I checked though they were a bit out of my price range. When I come into money though I'm definately looking into it.

And I know this is the firearms thread but what do you all use for flashlights? I love mine, I have the infinity defender from nitecore. I like it a lot as a mid range price wise. And it's 1AA battery for 30+ hours. And it has a bevel front for bashing a face or a windshield(in survival time not anger time...) if need be.
