I was somewhat less than serious.
A Tavor? I don't know if I'd walk down that road.
Why not? Supposedly, from watching Future Weapons, it has the barrel length of a full M-16, giving plenty of accuracy, plus the bullpup brings the balance in closer to the torso. I really am not worried too much about it ATM, as the last range we had (I am not deploying so didn't care much), I used my buddies M-4, with his zero and still shot a 36 on paper qual, lol. There was a dude the next lane over on his 4th try up there, with an ACOG trying to get 40, his best all day was 36. So, yeah, ultimately, if I can manage it I'll probably just get a 556 M4 with a toy or two added on, since ammo is spendy for those.
Colt m4 carbine that I have chambered in .22 so I can go shoot 2500 rounds on a trip and still afford gas to get home, has some updated furniture but nothing special
30-06 bolt action rifle from sears that I inherited
30-30 lever action (I love this rifle)
20 guage semi auto shotgun
.22 Remington that is the gun I learned to shoot with
.284 Winchester bolt action, hard to find ammo but great long gun
.22 rifle that was my dads first gun, bolt action
.44 mag single action, also inherited
.357 s&w revolver with a nice trigger job
9mm derringer that my wife sometimes carrys
Taurus model 65 .357 with scope
And soon to have a m9a1 to add because its what I qualified Navy pistol team on and it fits my hand like a glove
As far as prepping I have about 500 ends of ammo for all the above, but I am from Texas, that's what we do.
Dunno what exactly your looking for but there's a shop here selling Romanian AK's with 3 steel mags, ammo pouches, a bayonet (because you need one!) A sling and some other stuff for like 750 out the door. Ammo is dirt cheap, especially compared to .223. Not to mention, there is an abundance of stuff for it considering in some countries they are literally falling out of trees.

I just thought it was funny, those were the words of the employee who was showing me the deal: "your ak also comes with a bayonet, because you need one!" As if stating fact. I laughed but he still looked serious lol

Was this in a gun shop? Don't ever listen to anyone in a gun shop. Larry Vickers could walk into a gun shop and I'd ignore everything he told me.

It was in a gun shop, and he was making a sales pitch for the Romanian AK set after I asked if they had a m9a1, was a sales jockey through and through. I do my own research when it comes to firearms, I dont walk in asking to be convinced by a salesman which firearm to buy

Frazzled and any other Dakka member, I'll be training to be a licensed gunsmith through the next two years, and I have to do customer weapon work spring/summer 2015. So if you want to commission a custom rifle or get some work done and don't mind waiting/paying the shipping, etc I'd be happy to do the work for Dakkanaut Gun Nuts.
If you're interested in a custom rifle I'll be posting the full custom .308 I'll be doing for a project rifle early 2015 complete with a range report from the local Police force's marksman unit and possible an army sniper or two from the local base.
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

I can't wait to open my own store. I HATE how most shop owners do business. For example a female friend of mine was going to go buy herself a handgun for her purse, she'd done her research and decided to look at a couple different semi-autos and a revolver. She brought a male friend along, not because he knew gak about guns he just likes looking at fun toys and wanted to come. The guy selling HER the gun pretty much ignored her and talked to the male friend. Throw in that a lot of us gun guys (guys in this case being used unilaterally to represent all genders, etc) separate out into smaller tribes of gun guy. 1911 guns, Remington guys, Glock guys, etc. That's fine, nothing quite like having a good argument over a beer with a fan of combat tupperware. It becomes a problem when you as a salesman and as someone who is helping someone else purchase a weapon, especially if it's their first gun. You need to leave your biases at the door, listen to your customer and fit the gun to them. There's a guy at another shop in town, no matter what you ask about he'll go off about how great Glocks are. "I'm looking for a snub nosed revolver in .38spl" "Blahblahblah buy a Glock"
Sorry... rant off. Any way throwing in a bayonet should not be a "you need one" selling point it should be a "fun extra that looks cool for photos taken in your living room." point.

You do 1911 work?
I will be, my 1911 in the photo above is going to be my first experiment. She's a Rock River Arms 1911A1 (any one looking at entry level 1911s, look at Rock River, you CANNOT go wrong. I know a couple Kimber owners who actually prefer their Rock Rivers) I'm going to take her down to the frame and install a tuned Wilson Combat trigger, hammer and extended external safety, add a beaver tail grip safety, /maybe/ high vis sights and toss in a match grade barrel for good measure. I'd say I'd throat the barrel and polish the feed ramp but those particular modifications have been needed less and less over the years from what I understand.
On a side note cause the talk of bayos has me thinking, Can any one bloody tell me the point of THESE!?
I also kinda wanna know how you holster it...
and finally, this guy's doing it right for bayos.

I've never understood the allure of the Desert Eagle. I'd shoot one if I got a chance, but I'd shoot anything if I got a chance. Doesn't interest me that much, though.
On a somewhat funny side note, when I was at the shop paying way too much for my P30, a fairly young gentleman came in and requested to see a Desert Eagle. Then he wanted to see an FN P90. Then it was an MP7 (lol). Finally he asked to see "whatever SEALS carry." I believe the guy showed in a Sig P229. I'm pretty sure he got his shopping list from MW3.

The allure is just that its a ridiculous gun! I wouldnt want to own one, I'd like to blat it at the side of an animal for gaks and giggles though.

Meh. If you're going for ridiculous stupid go for a Casull. Its a revolver until you run out of shells, then it makes a nice battleship anchor.
And here's why I like to make de wimminz shoot magnums:

Most bullpups are carrying at least an M4 barrel if not more in a smaller package, it's the perk of the system. The problem I have is that if the ACR is any indication they wont bering this to market under 1500 and realistically more like 2000. After that you be able to swap optics and that's about it. In an AR platform you have hundreds of manufacturers, thousands of options and a price range from 400-the sky. I have never been a particular fan of Stoner's baby, but it's the best value running in the inflated US market.

CoD is the bane of the gun shop owners existence. Spend an hour letting some dude finger bang a chey-tac and then when he hears the price tag he's OTD. Between CoD and Zombie I couldn't work in a gun shop these days. It's poor customer service to laugh at their idiocy.

Then what you REALLY want is one of these.
because it spits hot fire.
and the rounds are the size of AA batteries.

Wo Mamma thats a lot for a stock. I could get a stock made from gold and bald eagles for that price. I can get a high end Fulton refurbished M1 for a grand.
Like I said back to the good old deer rifle with nice scope for me.

It's the whole rifle with a C stock. I'm not an 03 aficionado but there are like 4 stock shapes. I couldn't tell you which one is which without a book. $800 seems on the low end to me with what I've been seeing, but SMLE no1s are going for 400-600 and in my book that's a 20-150 gun. The mil surp market is a strange world in the 21st century.

Oh thats better. Still a bit outrageous but better. Again I get a refurbished M1 with new barrel for a grand from Fulton.
I'll add it to "Frazzled's list of a new pair of everything he needs for when he wins the Lotto."

I can "rent" you a room in my house that can be your summer home, buy whatever you want and I'll store it for you and regularly make sure it's in working order, you just supply the ammunition. Okay, since we're friends I'll store and shoot your guns for free and i'll provide my own ammo. See what a nice guy I am?
My buddy had the 10" Desert Eagle, weighed what seemed to be 20 pounds and it hurt to shoot but it truly felt like shooting a hand held cannon. Shooting it at night was cool too when it let out a 3 foot flame when you pulled the trigger. Just releasing the slide forward to chamber a round would carry enough weight and momentum to jerk the gun forward pretty good lol.
Another friend had an Encore that he had a .454 casull barrel for and I would say it was a bit over kill, and felt like someone clipped you in the shoulder with the side view mirror of a car doing 50 every time you pulled the trigger, but it left giant holes in things lol.

Kalashnikov, gunsmithing's great, but if you happen to be a leather/kydexworker, I'll give you my firstborn. I'm on a couple different waiting lists for good AIWB holsters, and the soonest I'm likely to get one is six months from now. Driving me nuts.

Where are you taking classes and what have you built so far?
I'm taking classes through the Colorado School of Trades starting next fall and I'm presently apprenticing with a local riflesmith. I haven't built anything yet mostly because my master is taking the more business oriented route for my apprenticeship. I'll hopefully get to start work on a rifle with him this winter out of my own pocket though, then the .308 I keep talking about is a part of the course curriculum for the CST. Before any one up on Gunsmithing education says anything, yes I know the Trinidad school exists, yes I looked at their curriculum. I liked CST's program and instructors better.
For ANY ONE who is a U.S. Citizen and finds a M-1 Garand a desirable and sexy instrument of battle. Check out the Civilian Marksmanship Program, decent grade refurbished M-1 Garand shipped to your door for like $600 if you want the Springfield receiver. That's courtesy of and with the full approval of the U.S. Government.
Motyak I was reading over Aussie gun laws recently and unless you desperately want Semi-Auto and to carry Aussie laws didn't strike me as horrible. (Self defense not being a genuine reason to carry ticked me off a mite...) but a Class B can get you all the fun centerfire rifles you'd want as far as bolt guns and lever actions go, Class C handles your pump shotties (though a double barrel break action coach shotgun's a sexy thing). Class H permits for handguns sound like they absolutely suck to acquire though. The laws aren't the greatest in the world from an American point of view... but it wasn't terrible enough to make me reconsider a possible move.

I can do you better then that mate and cheaper to.
Couple of my buddies SWEAR by these holsters and I'm buying two, a IWB on the hip and another in the small of the back, the former being my M&P40C and the latter being my 1911A1.

Good couple of guys, I only know them through shooting I've never bought thier holsters. Most people I know who have we're pleased. Don't mind Bryan; he's just slowed.

When you've got a portfolio Id love to see it. Don't forget to take lots of pictures even of work you do for yourself. Im about to put two guns in a box and run them to Phoenix Customs for a stock mill and see if I can talk myself into an oversized knob and a cerakote.

I'll keep you all posted and I'll probably put a decent sized portfolio up on Dakka even. My current Master has said if I kick some ass for him over the winter he'll turn me over to the guy who makes his stocks to round out my pre-education education... and if he approves my "from parts" learning build under his guidance I could have some in work shots on an action as early as Christmas.
I'm really excited to learn from this guy, he specializes in high end custom rifles and came over to the industry from machining high quality aircraft parts. His tolerances and precision work on parts is nothing short of amazing. The rest of the guys on his staff really know their stuff as well and I should be able to learn a lot from all of them
