The AR-15 in .308 is called an AR-10. I've never heard of a 30-06 version. That is a big bullet, i'm not sure the rifle itself is big enough for it.
If your looking for stopping power, the .308 is all you will need. I punched a whole clean through a 600lb hog with one, even went through one of her shoulders.
Ayah, thats an AR-10 (was remarking about the 30-06). Frankly a .308 has classic 30-06 characteristics (was meant to be), so I'd just go with an AR-10 vs. some weird piece of kit, unless you already have a 30-06 and want to keep the same caliber. I actually have a .22 like that. The wife likes the iron sights better. I do too for faster firing and initial sight in of the scope. For some reason I can never sight that scope in between range trips. I blame the user who mounted the scope.

Lets go ahead and stop this bus right now. 30-06 and 308 are not synonymous. (period). There is one and only one AR that chambers 30/06. It requires a dedicated lower to accommodate the addition 11mm difference between 06 and 308. If in a lets pretend world you chambered an AR-10 barrel to 30-06 and made any modifications short of cutting the upper receiver in half and lengthening it you wouldn't be able to stroke a 30-06 round from the standard AR-10 mag well it wouldn't fit in.

Your scope base is probably loose Frazz, or the rings are no lined up on the rails right. There's plenty of other causes but I'd check there first and bed the rail while you're at it.

Are you saying you would have problems stroking it?
There are multiple AR-10s/ .308 caliber semis out there now: M1 (Springfield, Fulton), FN types (including CETME), AR-10 (Les Baer, Fulton, Armalite), There's the new FN SCAR which I think is also in .308 but blocked at work frm checking. I saw one at the range Saturday and it looked quite nice, although I was liking the Springifled 1903 in the booth next to him more.

Probably rails aren't aligned right. I was never taught shooting with a scope, much less mounting rings etc. but age has caught up with me, hence me being so focused on pistols now.

I was going to quote this solely to call BS on you, knowing from other threads your current (?) or previous profession.
My wife and I currently "only" own a Remington R1 1911 in .45. Essentially, it was her choice, because she demanded that the first pistol we bought for home defense was one that she could operate easily (and still have a decent enough round to feth up whatever it touches)
Eventually, I will add an STI 1911, as I love the accuracy of those things, over just about every other 1911 I've fired. Also on my "to do list" of guns, is to get one of them bullpup ARs like the ones the Israeli's use, probably settle for a true M-4 clone though.

I have quite a few firearms. My favorite is my Ruger 300 win/mag. Gotta hold her like ya love her. It's older than I am, and still drives nails for the first two shots. *after the 2nd shot the barrels heated and throws accuracy off a bit... even with a floated barrel.*
I shocked to see how many users flock to the AR style reciever... after my time in the Army; I swore I would sell it if anyone gave one to me.

This is why I don't really want a "standard issue" US AR, I've looked around, and I mean, I'd "settle" for one, but it's not my ideal choice.

I'm mainly into airsoft, because it is really freaking fun, but I own a few real guns as well, which I have exclusively for target shooting and historical value (Liberals with guns FTW!). I do a bit of squirrel hunting on occasion as well.
I like black powder stuff quite a lot.
I've got an Uberti 1861 cap and ball revolver, a .50 cal black powder Plains pistol, and a tiny, .40 cal black powder derringer.
The three shell firing guns I own are a Mosin Nagant (year 1942. freaking awesome) and a Nagant Revolver. I also have a .22 rifle and I will be getting an Enfield at the gigantic Tulsa gun show coming up.
Nagant revolvers are awesome, btw. They are only around $100, and they are cool pieces of history that are generally in excellent condition, and the ammo is quite easy to find actually. I plink with the thing all the time.

Wasn't there already a thread on this? Oh well, don't care to dig it up. To date, my "collection" includes:
S&W M&P15 - EOTech XPS2-0, Troy folding front and rear sights, Troy railed forend, Magpul ACS-L stock, Magpul enhanced trigger guard (gotta get them gloved fingers in there), Magpul MOE pistol grip, Magpul AFG2, and charging handle with an oversized latch from Badger.
Delton AR-15 of some sort - Magpul MOE forend, EOTech 512, Magpul MOE pistol grip and enhanced trigger guard.
Glock 19 - 3rd gen. Nothing special, just for carry.
Glock 17 - 4th gen. Factory night sights.
Remington 870 and 870P - First one is for bird hunting. The latter for home defense. Nothing special on it but a side saddle and the 18" barrel.
Remington 700P - Harris bipod and Millet 4-16x50 scope.
WASR 10/63 - Every man needs an AK in his life.
CZ 75 P-07 - Really not sure why I have this, nice pistol though, chambered in 9mm.
Springfield 1903 Mk1 - Really low serial number, in the 1xxxxxx range. All original, manufactured December of 1918.
Tomorrow, I pick up an Polish M44 in VERY good condition.
I think that's everything...

I was somewhat less than serious.
A Tavor? I don't know if I'd walk down that road.

As for Asherian's post, are we listing ALL weapons, or just firearms, here?
Thanks! I'll have the rings professionally installed this time too!
Strange Q but anyone know where you can get a reconditioned springfield 1903 with new barrel?
@the Millet...meh. There's a lot of scopes in that price range, most of which I put before Millet. They are backed by a Bushnell warranty though.
@1903 How much are you looking to pay? These days an originial 1903 can fetch a pretty penny. Expect a refurbished and rebarreled 03 to run no less than a grand.
