No, it started off great and it ceased being great to you when it bashed things you like.

I don't like nipples on my armor either. I also don't like the back parts of the IG flak vest that serve no function outside of helping attach vox units and such to the model. Because of that I saw them off and smooth it down to look like they were never there. You can bet that if they had nipples on those vests I'd sand them off too.

Does that make me immature? No, it makes me someone with an opinion.

Because of how new they are, I have to say the Mutilators are the WORST models available. Old sculpts are old, and have an excuse.

Mutilators? NO EXCUSE!

Isn't the Mutilator an old body sculpt (Oblits) with some new arms, or did they really sculpt a new matching fugly body to match the old ones?

Mutilators/Oblits are the ugliest things, although any model with random muscle bundles connected to the wrong piece of anatomy is in the same fail category.

The Mutilators are all new, they look really close to Oblits but some things are different, the one that stands out for me is that the heads are different, there are some bionics on the Oblits. I do have to agree that they are really ugly for new models.

...Wow. I always wondered about that.

Pretty inexcusable for new models. I wonder what water heard looked at the master sculpt and said "hmmmm this looks good!"

someone called them "twlight marines" so by that logic space puppies are also "twilight marines". atleast blood red>baby blue.

sanguinary guard is an extremely customizable kit. if you dont like the wings, leave them off. if you dont like the nipples, sand them off.

i dont see how you could argue Sguard for "worst sculpted GW mini". the poses are nice, the sculpts are nice, the options are nice.

▲ I think you're right kb. Sang guard and such aren't bad sculpts at all, it's just that some don't like them. And I think you're correct to differentiate between "worst sculpts available" and "models I don't like". There are plenty of terrifically sculpted models, that I really don't like. Actually, you could probably put my original post of mutilators in that category. They aren't terribly sculpted models, I just don't like them.

I'm actually starting to feel a bit guilty about this whole thread. Dunno about you guys, but I certainly couldn't sculpt any of these models.... suppose I'm not paid to, right enough.

I think a lot of the models mentioned could just generally do with an update/resculpt. Mutilators aren't particularly aesthetically pleasing but then they are supposed to look quite hideous, the fur on the wolves is a problem for me though. I like the model's overall but the fur just looks too spikey... but that might just be the way its painted and not so much the sculpt.

Surely there is a difference between a bad sculpt, i.e. a figure which is badly proportioned, has poor quality detailing, etc and a badly designed figure. The sister dialogus is a perfectly technically good miniature but it just looks like a librarian shouting. I think it's quite refreshing compared to all the silly tight tops, fur bikinis etc that female miniatures tend to have. It's not inspiring but it is at least different. Same with the dark apostle, it's a fine technical sculpt but too busy for some.

There are some genuinely bad figures, poorly designed with pathetic features and slovenly attention to detail. They are rare but think of Eldar wraithguard, old dark eldar warriors, etc. They are bad figures not badly designed figures.

I miss 3rd Daemonettes
They were what Slaanesh was about. But then GW got prudish...maybe they were afraid that they would receive the DnD treatment.

I also miss the cloven hooved bloodletters, for that matter; they looked like they could kill stuff, you know?

You forgot Fabulous Ones (Flayed Ones) and Dark Soprano (Dark Apostle). Though to be fair, at least I could see the idea behind the soprano...its just that the execution is laughable, although easily corrected with a modelling knife.

Created what is one of the few (or perhaps the only) Guard unit that actually looks like it belongs in 40K, rather than some period piece. It’s rare that GW does something that looks like the Blanche’s scribble-art stuff, but the Vostroyans are a good example.

They’re more 40K than most things are.

And yes, it appears that Kaldor and I can agree on something...

Look at them. LOOK.

And this was before I could get the checker patterns and Blade Runner-esque bands of warpaint on them. But yet, they're also awesome at the same time. While not readily available from GW, they can be found on the secondary market, so could these count?

TBH I don’t mind the Dark Apostle. Yes he’s overly busy, but the model itself ain’t bad.

The Flayed Ones? Yes, terrible. So is Lukas the Trickster. So is Wolfy McWolferson riding his Giant Wolf whilst using Wolf Claws. That guy was bad from concept through execution...

Every time I see gk I don't get the intended impression of " they're carrying so much stuff cause they're super stwong!" but rather "they're fumbling around trying to carry all their equipment."

wysiwyg gone wrong.

Honorable mentions are the sisters organ of goofiness and I can't believe nobody mentioned the inquisitor guy with the big typewriter machine.

Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

Am I the only one thinking you can't do anything more toyish, childish and moodless than XV8? I mean Helldrake, Dreadknight or Stormtalon looks like a piece of art next to it and Mutilator scream with grimdark, imo.
