Skull Pass Dwarves



I’ll not bore you with the details or indeed any more photos. Suffice it to say these crummy plastics have been rescued and revived to what I might call a “colouring in” standard whereby I throw enough paint at them to call them done.

Renewal: I am renewing my oath to the Emperor and getting my finger out and painting some marines.I decided to treat myself to the leviathan box for my birthday and got the space marine combat patrol models assembled over the weekend along with some ebay buys to make up the Dark Angels combat patrol.

My choice of marine for the challenge is a slightly converted terminator chaplain, I bought a little bundle of bits for dark angels conversions from ebay and managed to find a bit for the mace, I couldn't find a proper chaplain head on ebay so used a primaris reiver one, and managed to stick something different hanging from his wrist, smoking urn thing. I wasn't sure if this would stay put but seems ok. The mace isn't totally squint either so happy days.

A simple head swap + cut axe top off + stick urn on wrist took several hours

Last month was a bit hectic with a family emergency, I managed to get my entry finished but I didn't have time to post the finished photo sadly. I have this week off so hoping to get a decent amount of work done on these mini's.

Did an Anubi embalmer from war gods of aegyptus, ready for preparing bodies for the renewal of the next life.

Little update on on my chaplain, weather wasn't great for spraying but managed to get them all undercoated. I think he is nearly finished, just going to add a little more detail to a couple parts and try highlight some edges so he doesn't look so flat. I had some issue's with his face but managed to tidy it up a little, I think it's still too bright though.

I always forget how much I dislike painting big models. Just so much space. And with my Ultras, I use an ink to tint the blue, which needs to be done rapidly and smoothly to prevent pooling. Which on big flat surfaces is not fun. Anyway, WIP shot:


Cleanup and detail pass, assembly, and <shudder> edging. Plus base and decals.

Month is getting along now. Almost out of procrastination time!

I'm all finished, I just need to find time to take photos.

I really need to get my photos done. Time is slippin' away...

I've got a couple of days to paint my background, busy mucking about with XPS foam last night.

We do have until the end of Monday, so still some time. But use the weekend wisely…

For and ETB pushfit this was a surprisingly good model. Not a lot of bad undercut issues due to trying to keep the part count down. Paint was fine, just the normal issues of painting vehicles. Just so darn big. And this guy is a chonky boi. First redemptor I’ve built. I had no idea how big they really were.

I had a great idea to speed up the drying of the base by doing it outside in the sun, left it for 15 mins to go make a coffee only for it to start pouring with rain, never mind he dried off fine.

At this point I'm not sure there's any chance I'll finish Azrael in time. I just fell too far behind and motivation is lacking.

Ugh... So I picked a model for the theme, spent so many hours on her, and I'm not pleased with the end results. I entered her anyway because that's what I got done. Then yesterday, I finally got around to painting my Warhammer RPG character. My mojo was really working and I banged him out in an afternoon:



I'm actually really pleased with the end result and there was no pressure or deadlines. However, I never took a "before" proof photo, so my renewal of the vow to quest for the grail for Ze Lady cannot be entered...

I know I can't enter him, but I at least wanted to share as well as vent

We play fast and loose with the proof pics anyway. I know and trust that you are not abusing the rule to enter something old. We can run with this as your entry.

It's okay, Nevelon. I don't want to set a bad precedent.

I just find it ironic that I took photos of everything during the 100th challenge but then slacked off with the photos when I ran out of primer. The planets aligned and I got this done. It's funny more than anything.

This one was a real mess for me. All the metal pieces were badly bent and the surface was damaged in several areas.
It's "good enough" for me to put it on the table, even if I'm not super happy with it.



Might put another layer of paint (or three) on the metal parts later on to get rid of the blotches, but I want to paint something else for now.

I've been out a lot this month with work so was only able to finish 3 out of the 4 planned grot tanks and also not been able to post on here much.

but I got something done and fairly happy with it (although have just spotted some areas of painting I missed).

Having decided early in the month to renew the paint job on this screaming skull catapult (or was it called a skull chucka back in the day?), it was promptly put into the Dettol where it sat for most of the month... So a bit of a rush job to get it done in time over the last few days!

At least the days back to my knowledge it was always the screaming skull catapult. Which is the 5th edition “Undead” book from ’94, before the split into TK/VC. I normally fielded 2. I could almost always call the guess range right on target, but one would invariably scatter off. Good times!

Oddly, the one pic of mine I uploaded here I have labeled as a skullchuka. No idea what I was thinking. Could just be lazy and using the slang. Digging into the etymology of skull-based war machine naming conventions is more then I’m up to right now though.
