I've been hammering the unbuilt part of my pile of shame this year. But I also got some decent painting in. Painted a bunch of D&D miniatures that had been languishing for nearly a decade so I could use them in my undermountain games day for my school's community days. That was really satisfying.
Then I tackled my Tyranid army that has been sat in a box built but unbased or primed since before my kid was born. I got really excited when I did my marines a few years ago and wanted to get my nids done to fight them, but then ran out of steam when I wasn't happy with my contrast paint magos purple.
Switched to Army Painter Purple Swarm and got the whole lot done minus 10 Gargoyles, a Tervigon and a Trygon. I'll get those done before October is done!
Painted 54 Gaunts, 3 Ripper Swarms, 3 Nid Warriors, 3 Zoanthropes, 3 Leapers, 2 Carnifexes, 16 Genestealers, and a Hive Tyrant so far.
But then I got really motivated to reduce my unbuilt pile, because minis on sprue take up so much space and we've a second kid on the way so I want to compress my collection. GW kits are the worst for this because due to how especially the modern kits are made, you have to make them from the sprue as the part numbers are on there and doing it without the part numbers is a nightmare. So I cracked open my Tau boxes and got built:
Tau Start Collecting
Pathfinders and a Devilfish
Commander Shadowsun
Hammerhead
Broadside
Stealth Team
16 Kroot with 4 Kroot Hounds and 3 Krootox
5 Kitbashed Vespid (made from D&D Thri Kreen and spare bits)
And then I went straight into my Drukhari and so far I've done:
Old Combat Patrol
Kabalite Warriors
Raider
Scourges (plus kitbashed some of the crew for the raiders and ravagers into 5 more scourges with Shard Carbines)
Still to go:
Start Collecting (with the Wyches)
Hellions
A Venom
The remaining 40K pile would then be:
Horus Heresy Sentinels box
Contemptor Dreadnaught
Daemonettes
AdMech Combat Patrol
Genestealer Cults Start Collecting
I reckon that's pretty achievable before end of November (the due date!). I'm only working on this at night or while our first kid is napping so it's all short bursts, but it feels get to be reducing the space taken up and making a tangible step to getting everything done.
