The FFG seminar on 40k RPG is Thursday at 1PM.

Most of the FFG dev team and at least a few freelancers should be in attendance. I'm sure we'll get a chance to share a detail or two about new products.

Picked up Citadel of Skulls today at the FLGS. Not much time to read it yet, but going on my browse it looks very good. Intense grim-dark and the system/planet of the Citadel is very nicely put together.

Church of the Damned was in fact awaiting me when I got home tonight, which is nice.

Only had a brief read through, a skim as t'were of a few sections, but my initial impressions are favourable. It certainly seems much more fluid and logical with regards to its structure.

The section dealing with some gangs is cool and offers a good amount of options to resolve things, I've noticed several sections which will enable different classes to do things in different ways, and the end game.. well... yes. me like !

Sorry for the delay in reporting guys. Internet access (and time to access the internet) is rather limited during the course of the convention. The seminar was pretty well attended, so I'm surprised that nobody else has offered any comments to this point.

The seminar was presented by:
Mack Martin (Dark Heresy Developer)
Sam Stewart (Black Crusade Developer)
Tim Huckleberry (Rogue Trader Developer)
Andrew Fischer (Deathwatch Developer)
Ross Watson (Sr. 40K RPG Developer)
Andrea Gausman (Freelancer)
John Dunn (Freelancer, aka, me)

There were, essentially, no surprises. Similarly, there were no announcements of books that had not been previously discussed. FFG's standard policy of "Fantasy Flight Games does not speculate on unreleased products" was in full effect. It was also mentioned many, many times, during the course of the Q&A. They did, however, reaffirm the fact that GW is happy with their performance and that they plan to support all lines for an extended time. There certainly are future products coming for all of the lines.

Mack covered the releases over the past year in Dark Heresy. The only unreleased book that was covered was to say that there would be a third book in the Apostasy Gambit trilogy. Church of the Damned was the new release for the show.
Tim talked about Rogue Trader. As with Mack's presentation, he mentioned Fallen Suns, the third book in the Warpstorm Trilogy. No other unreleased books were covered. Citadel of Skulls was the new release for the show.
Andrew discussed Deathwatch. Achilus Assault, which was at the show (probably a pre-release) was the newest book covered in the presentation.
Sam went over the core rules for Black Crusade as well as the GM's kit, both of which were available at the show.

After that, we went to Q&A. The questiosn that I specifically recall were mostly about BC, and covered things that have seen a lot of discussion here and on the FFG forums. These were things like character balance, game system compatibility, and others. Many folks asked many questions about future plans, and all received the stock answer of no speculation.

The entire presentation was recorded, but I don't know if the video folks have plans to do anything with that tape (or if there might have been technical issues with the recording. None of us were mic'd).

I suspect that these aren't the answers that many folks might want to hear. I wish I could offer something more informative, but I cannot. The bottom line is - if you like what you've seen so far, expect to see more work of the same caliber in the future. All of us who have worked on the games love the properties and love having the opportunity to work with them.

Thanks for that Mr. Dunn, always good to get some clarification.

.. is a little disappointing that w don't get any sudden BIG REVEAL or news, but it's understandable.

.. and they're generally quite cool with what thye tell us about forthcoming releases anyway, so we'll let them off.

Good to hear there is more to come, personally I'd be happy if RT got a little bit more lovin and there's a few 1st Founding/notable Astartes chapters that would seem worthy of expansion upon...

.. but FFG have been golden so far so I've every faith.

Glad to hear things are well, suspected as much after GW confirmed the renewal of the license in their annual report.

Even gladder to hear that people will continue to have steady work coming their way too

Completely forgot this until I saw your posting. The last slide that Andrew showed during the Deathwatch portion was, if my memory serves, a BC Marine with a Salamanders Shoulder Pad. I'm not under any NDA on this one - I absolutely have no insider knowledge about what that might have foreshadowed. Please feel free to speculate.
BrookM wrote:RT does need more loving.

Last year's Profit and Plunder previewed Hostile Acquisitions and Xenos Compendium, which both remain unreleased. I can comfortably say that fans of RT can continue to look forward to both of those products, even if they may not make the dates originally presented in that resource.

I have just been using the create a chapter rules in Rites of Battle. IIRC endtransmission has a decent Red Scorpions chapter template in his P&M blog.

Agreed... the rites of battle tables are fairly inclusive although they can easily be minmaxed by players so be careful. Just like with the 4th edition 40k marine chapter rules in the old vanilla codex, the "disadvantages" can be gamed. My DW campaign is on indefinite hiatus at the moment but I used to allow custom chapters randomly rolled by the player (with one reroll for the whole process) or made up by the GMs in a take-it-or-leave-it fashion.

Custom chapters generally are only made by me as needed in my games, players get to take it or leave it. After my group cracked Rites of battle open and started to gripe and moan that they could not take some of the options, I took the book back, so this group only has the core book to play out of.

Endtransmissions is somewhat fair IIRC: Endtransmission's Red Scorpions
