I'll also add the Marauder Lives and the Nothings to the list of stories I liked, overall not a bad collection. Some of them great shorts all round with fun little twists on things.

And with special thanks to insomnia I also got through the Wicked and the Damned in record time, really enjoying the three stories told there.

It'll be interesting to see where they go from here with the rest of the range going forward.

I've heard that Drachenfels will be going up for preorder tomorrow, would be nice!

In the meantime, my Spring of Reading™ continues with the two Black Legion novels by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. After that, the latest novel of that arsehole Caine, we shall not be playing the drinking game again. If there's still time left, on to Lukas the Trickster.

Thanks for that! Drakensfels is still my favorite BL novel and it's great to hear some of the behind the scenes bits.

IIRC Newman was like 21 when he wrote it.

Now someone do an interview with him on the Demon Download books!

Hey, I didn't wan't to start a new thread, so I thought I'd ask this here;

To the people who have received their copies of the Horus Heresy Made to Order Hardbacks, are the spines flat, like the newer books, or slightly curved like the originals?

I’ve now got the two new Horror books, so shall give them a try,
Probably work through the short stories first.
Though I should really finish Severina’s story first..

Personally I'm glad it's a paperback, as hardbacks are a bit hard to hold for me when I'm lying on my side in bed.

I'll wait for some reviews on Requiem Eternal, as I've read a few of the author's short stories and didn't really feel it.

I loved what I’ve read from Peter Fehervari, he has a writing style very different any other BL writer out there. You should try cult of the spiral dawn, I don’t think many books have portrayed the 40k universe in all its darkness like it.

Yeah, cult of the Spiral dawn, and Fire Caste, are both excellent. Pretty dark and weird, but they were great.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll add it to my wish list for the next time I've got some dosh for books, not to mention worked my way through the current to-read pile.

Quite enjoyed the Talon of Horus, it had some odd moments in there but that's more than made up for with the more absurdly awesome moments.

Now to see if Sons of the Emperor has some good stuff in there, been a while since I last read something Heresy related that was good.

COTSD is not bad - it does veer into CSM bolter porn in places which is a bit annoying.

I liked Fire Cast more.

Are you thinking of Cult of the Warmason?
Cult of the Spiral Dawn doesn't have any Chaos Space Marines in it.

If someone is thinking of doing a deep dive into Fehervari's books and short stories, a lot of them are interconnected.
Fire Caste is a good starting point, because the short stories Out Caste, A Sanctuary of Wyrms and Vanguard all tie into that novel directly as either sequels or side stories.
Cult of the Spiral Dawn is just the compilation of To Cast a Hungry Shadow and Legends of the Dark Millennium Genestealer Cults, and that or those chronologically take place after Fire Caste and have a returning character from that earlier novel.
Greater Evil is tenuously tied to Fire Caste but can be read on its own.
Requiem Infernal is strongly hinted at as taking place directly after Cult of the Spiral Dawn and suggests a returning character from that earlier novel.

Is Solar War the same thing as Siege of Terra or a multi-volume prelude?

Solar war is the opening volume in the siege of terra series. It has been slightly confusing the way it’s been put across.

Does anyone know a release date for the Guys book?

Thanks to BL deleting the coming soon page we likely we won't know for sure until either White Dwarf confirms it or the week it is due out via Warhammer Community. This I do not like at all as it makes it very hard to plan in advance when I could be on holiday (I rarely check the internet at all on holiday) for a book that will sell out very quickly. If I had more notice I could get a friend to pick it up for me.

However I am 80% expecting it to turn up at the Black Library Live even in June @ Warhammer World, as its the month after the standard edition of Solar War is out, meaning one new book every three months. I'm expecting ugly scenes on the day unless they reserve 1 copy per ticket sold, so nearly half of the allocation would be in person sales, madness.

Edit: No sooner do I moan about Coming Soon going missing and Warhammer Community adds it back in to their site, here.

Ahhhhh, 11th of May (audio drama!) and 8th of June (Spear of the Emperor) cannot come soon enough either.

Only thing that would excite me more is the announcement of the third Imperial Knights novel.

I keep meaning to read them, how do they stack up against the Battletech stuff, cause I suspect I'll inevitably be making the comparison

It is a comparison that is thrown around a lot and I suppose it's not completely out of place. The novels are in my opinion good reads with a fair split of stompy mech action and boots on the ground.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

"Cover not final" - no, seriously, make it final, that's spot-on. Now just reprint the Eisenhorn omnibus too - my copy is literally falling apart.

As to the new stuff - it's a shame they've decided to tie the Vaults of Terra series directly into the Newfluff, I'd hoped that was one I'd be able to keep enjoying.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
