Finally Gorgias the servo skull is getting a sequel!

Harlon has one finger too many.

Not sure why they're redoing the omnibus again, was kinda hoping they'd give it the Eisenhorn treatment and split the trilogy across three paperbacks with new cover art.

Unless there's actual new content in there I'll happily stick with the signed omnibus I got right now.

I was hoping we would get a box set to match the Eisenhorn one that came out some time ago. Those seem to have dried up of late.
Personally I rate the Ravenor books higher than Eisenhorn. I found the general story much better.

Other way round for me, though I can see that with Ravenor Dan really found his comfort zone and getting around the whole first person narrative he was kicking himself for with Eisenhorn.

I juuuuuuuuuuuuust hope that with the new omnibus on the way we'll be getting some actual info on when Penitent drops as well some time soon.

Artistic license. Patience looked like this in the old Inquisitor cyclopedia. Don't remember Harlon being specifically mentioned as black, I could well be wrong however.

Mathuin, the guy with the cyborg canon arm, I think he's described as dark skinned.

I've read the first Vaults of Terra book and I quite rate Wraight generally, but it doesn't matter how well written the book ends up as the problem for me is the material itself - I don't care for the new totes-not-M42 Rift/Rowboat/Cawl/Primaris plotline, and every time I try to read anything about it I'm reminded - even by the "good stuff" - about all the things I find annoying or cringey about the whole affair and it sours my enjoyment, so I'm sticking with M41 and before. I'd just hoped that's where the series would continue to be set.

Zeph Matuin is black, has a cybernetic arm that he can swap out for a rotor cannon and a pair of cybernetic eyes that burned like coal in the dark. It's one of those short but awesome character descriptions burned into my mind.

Midas and his daughter Medea, the pilots of Eisenhorn, also have a darker skin tone, though this may be something shared by all Glavians if I recall correctly. I do wish we had more of Midas in the stories, he was a nice hot-headed but still experienced counterpoint to both Gregor and Fishig.

As for Patience, she's looking way too happy. She's described as having cold, hard eyes, no matter her mood. A blend between the old and new art would be better in my opinion, as she wore the kine blades in sheaths all over her body glove, without looking like a Drukhari cosplayer.

I don't think that the hardback trilogy sets sold very well (particular Gav's and Nicks) so they stopped doing them. Personally I bought most of the sets they did as I prefer a hard back to a paper back for long term ownership.

I think most people do, but when it's a choice between three hardbacks at ~20 quid a pop or one paperback omnibus for 15 quid...

I'd stick to second hand books if I wanted to save money, even cheaper. The three book sets were £50 for the set, so a bit cheaper than buying 3 standard hard backs from BL.

Having hard backs doesn't preclude paper backs; if hard backs didn't sell at all you'd never see them from BL as it wouldn't make financial sense for them.

However I suspect we've seen the last of the limited editions for non Primarch/SoT ranges as a regular, once a month thing. Was Celestine the last limited edition (other than Primarch/SoT), back in January?

I frequently do buy secondhand, when what I want is available in good condition - sometimes paying for a new paperback is a more appealing option than hunting for weeks or months to find popular books in good condition at reasonable prices.

And I'd wager hard backs would sell a fair amount less if BL didn't hold stories hostage to them; start dropping the TPB and hardback on the same day rather than months apart and then you'll get a true measure of how popular hardbacks are in their own right, rather than as an "I don't want a story I'm really anticipating spoiled" tax.

I buy secondhand paperbacks all the time.. I got must of the. Early heresy books on world of books for less than £3. I don't care if they're a little dog eared. I'm way late to the story anyway so I'd rather just wait and pay less.

For me it's less the appearance and more that if I care enough to buy a book it's one I'll very probably reread multiple times, so I want them as close to new as possible to delay their eventual demise

I buy second hand paperbacks for the most part, I only read them a couple of times then they are on the shelf, as long as the writing is clear its all good for me, they are easier to read in bad as well !

I would splash out on a Ravenor boxed set though especially as they already did an Eisenhorn one, I can see them releasing a trio of trilogies eventually, I hope so anyway !!

Ouch, Pariah is such an old release now, from when they still used a different format of hardback, the sequel will look completely out of place next to it.. hopefully they'll redo Pariah in the same new hardback format as well when Penitent happens.

Are you kidding? This is Black Library we're talking about here, there's absolutely no way they will have that attention to detail.

wasn't that long ago that Tallarn was released so maybe they're speeding the release of these up a bit ?

Ugh. You'd think that now the series is basically finished, they could do everyone a favour and just crank out the remainder over the rest of the year.

That my friend is unlikely to happen. As fantastic as it would be BL rarely seem to do things in a logical way. The gap from the first release to now would definitely warrant a nice new edition but I suspect we will get a paperback release at best and then out with the new probably in limited edition looking nothing like the first hardback or the new paperback.
You would think GW would have realised most of us are collectors at heart. And collectors like a level of symmetry, they like continuity in their obsessive collections. If it just messy different every time it just annoys us. Anyone who has walked into a games workshop knows this, except the BL design team who they must keep locked away.

Standard publisher model is to release the paperback months after the initial release for exactly why you say, BL aren't unusual. However BL don't publish everything straight to hardback, and have recently trimmed what gets a limited edition release/box set release so I'm sure they are aware what will and won't sell in the various formats.

I'm a big fan of ebooks and will usually find the ebook somewhere for the physical books that I own rather than read the physical book. I'm only buying physical books I want to collect (otherwise I will buy the ebook rather than find it) so I find it equally annoying that BL can't keep the series format locked. They have mostly managed it for Primarchs (bar the first one, Guilliman, whose foil embossing is not legion coloured), and short publishing timeline series like Beast Arises and SoT, so its not beyond them. I suspect they do not care for the majority of books.

Hit the nail on the head there. I think it's quite evident that those in charge of such matters at BL aren't bibliophiles themselves.
