New edition of the Sabaat Crusade (Gaunt's Ghosts war) art book with double the length and new stuff.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/04/17/coming-soon-the-sabbat-worlds-crusade/

Gaunt’s Ghosts fans, prepare for something exciting coming your way in December. A new edition of the classic background book The Sabbat Worlds Crusade will be released, and it’s bigger and better than ever. Also, if you’re in Canterbury, you can catch the Ghosts’ creator Dan Abnett in person next week. Read on to find out more.

The Sabbat Worlds Crusade was first released back in the mists of time (well, 2005). This was a comprehensive account of the first twenty years of that great war, written by Dan Abnett himself. The book followed the fortunes of Warmaster Slaydo as he assembled his armies, convinced the High Lords of Terra that the Sabbat Worlds needed retaken by the Imperium, and launched his assault. It detailed the earliest clashes as the Crusade advanced, and gave the fullest account yet of the Battle of Balhaut, where Slaydo fell and one Ibram Gaunt distinguished himself enough to be given command of a small regiment from the backwater world of Tanith…

It then told the tale of the crusade up to the events on Herodor, where Saint Sabbat herself returned to lead the Imperial forces in their reconquest of her stars. This was as far as the Gaunt’s Ghosts series had advanced at the time, but in the intervening years, no fewer than 8 more novels (and a pair of short story anthologies) have continued to tell the Tanith First’s part in the crusade. Now, for the first time, Dan Abnett has returned to tell the tale of the wider crusade across the 18 in-universe years from Sabbat Martyr to the events of Anarch.

This new edition of The Sabbat Worlds Crusade is an A4 hardback and clocks in at more than twice the length of the original. Dan Abnett has revised the existing text and written loads of new content, as well as providing detailed briefs for a plethora of new artwork.

In the book’s pages, you’ll find art covering the Imperial forces of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade and their enemies. Among them are portraits of many of the key characters in the Gaunt’s Ghosts series, such as the Tanith First chief medic Tolin Dorden and master sniper Hlaine “Mad” Larkin, both of which you can see for the first time in this article! Alongside them is a sinister officer of the Sons of Sek – and these are just a taste of the amazing artwork you’ll find in the book. There will also be new and revamped maps, including one showing the Sabbat Worlds in all their glory. The Sabbat Worlds Crusade will be an essential accompaniment to all fans of the Gaunt’s Ghosts series, and it’s coming your way in December.

If you want to catch up on the Gaunt’s Ghosts novels in the intervening months, it’s easy to do so thanks to a series of omnibus editions of the novels. Pick up The Founding, The Saint, The Lost and The Victory: Part One alongside The Warmaster and Anarch and you’ll be up to date on the tales of Ibram Gaunt and his warriors, ready to dive into the wider story.

If you’d like to get some of your books signed by Dan, and you’re in the Canterbury area, you’re in luck! Next Wednesday, the 24th of April, Dan will be signing books and talking about his wide and varied career at Waterstones Canterbury. Don’t miss out on a chance to meet the Warmaster himself!

A4 hardback probably means that they're going to pull an Eldar Sketchbook and make it abominably expensive.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Also sets up a bit of a dilemma - do you buy this one, given there's no certainty we'll see another, or do you hold out for the possibility they'll release another revised version in a few years once the series concludes?

I got stung a couple of times on the old Heresy art books so I'm a bit leery, but at the same time I missed out on a lot of the cool little background books like The Witchunter's Handbook and Loathsome Ratmen, which I still regret.

Just have to hope it's reasonably priced enough(ahahah) that picking it up doesn't feel like a gamble.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I don't suppose anybody knows the exact date of Genevieve Undead going up for preorder?

It was fun to revisit Drachenfels, as dated as it is now, so can't wait for the sequel to drop sometime May.

Also two weeks and some change to go until Inferno! #3 and the reprints of issues 11 to 15 are up for preorder.

Is it the same as the Primer, or does Handbook imply more depth?

The handbook is a combination of the Uplifting Primer and Munitorum manual, which they've done in the past once before.

I already have all previous variants (black, blue and green, plus the brown Munitorum manual), but I'd love to get this one as well, as long as the Primer is the Damocles variant this time around.

edit.

Just now saw on Facebook that it contains new material.. also asked which version of the primer is included while I was at it.

But chances are I'll get it, if nothing else it'll make for an excellent gift somewhere down the line.

Yup those books are fantastic reads. So many nice little in jokes and little fluff nuggets.

I personally missed a chance to buy the Sabbat Crusade book years ago for like 10 bucks on clearence at a flgs that was getting out of selling GW stuff. I kick myself still for not picking it up. I won't miss this one no matter the cost.

Softback releases do seem to happen a lot faster now, was quite surprised that the latest Cain novel was available in softback already.

Personally waiting for Inferno! #3 and its slew of reprints go up for preorder next week. Week after that the next Agent of the Throne audio drama goes up, Genevieve Undead should also be going up for preorder some time soon.

May is going to be a good month of reading for me personally.

I'll be forwarding that Warhammer Adventures one, as my goddaughter loved the first book a lot, interesting to hear if she'll like the Genestealer one as well.

I'm surprised GW isn't at least keeping the digital versions of them around . The novella series is a great read and each one fleshes out its story well. I'd strongly recommend getting hold of them if you can!

Are there any more "old" inferno reprints to come out?

Far as I know they plan to do the entire old Inferno in blocks of 5. There's 46 issues in total and they've only done up to 10 so far. So I'd wager there's another 7 block releases to go (with 6 in the last block)

The Horus Heresy: Deck of Cards
This set of 54 playing cards includes everything you'd expect – the four traditional suits, each with an ace, 2-10, and a jack, queen and king, plus a pair of jokers. The twist is that each card is gorgeously illustrated with one of the covers from the Horus Heresy novel series. 54 books, 54 cards – it's a match made in heaven

There's nothing better than settling down with a good book and your drink of choice… and what could be more appropriate for reading the forthcoming Siege of Terra series, or any other Black Library book, than a set of four vinyl coasters emblazoned with imagery from the new series?

.. cannot quite work out if these are cool, a bit naff or so retro/naff they circle round and are cool again.

Actually quite tempted by the cards.
