As for Chapter Approved 2021, I expect it to return to it's usual December release date.
Question is which December
a book in December 2020 makes no sense it would go into printing now
and December 2021 makes it 1.5 years until we get any corrections to the failures of the release
Since we already have the Chapter Approved for 2020, it would be for December 2021.
I don’t know why people are assuming GW is going to follow the old 8th edition Chapter approved and point adjustment timeline...
Since CA2020 comes out this july I would think GW just flipped the updated so instead of a spring points faq it will just get moved to November/December. And we get a new CA2021 next June/July...
This point adjustment algorithm was kind of a mess and completely looks like it was pushed thru when it wasn’t ready and it’s going to need a lot of adjustments to fix it. GW will just charge us for it in a winter faq with some extra crusade missions thrown in
Because leaving it as a July release has it too close to the General's Handbook release. It makes more sense to move the Chapter Approved release back to December for 2021 as it will (potentially) give them some feedback from the early year conventions like the Las Vegas Open, AdeptiCon, etc.
That didn’t prevent them from doing it this year...
It also makes more sense releasing a chapter approved in June or July as that’s when they do thier summer campaign push.
I don’t beleive GW has any intentions of following thier old timetable sorry
That doesn't follow. Changing points during their 'summer campaign push' makes no sense at all.
It happened now to go along with the edition changes, nothing more.
Truthfully, if they deal with the obvious outliers in the points lists, I'd rather they took the extra time for a December 2021 release anyway. They did a bad job of it with too little data, and likely still be getting less feedback than normal for at least a few months more. The biggest problem with 8th was their straight sprint from index to codex to V2 codexes to PA. Extra months of of analysis once they've shaken the obvious bugs out would be a supremely good thing.

Aren't there better places to up your game too? Specialized places, like blogs of top players and stuff?
Isn't Dakka the marine of wargaming: jack of all trades, master of none?
Ahaha who am I kidding marines are now master of all trades but still you got the point.

That's because it was linked to the 9th edition release (and the new editions have been dropping in June or July as of late). There is absolutely no reason for GW not to resume their old schedule instead of keeping the points adjustments for their two core games (and all the work that entails) crammed together in such a short period of time.

Oh and I haven’t used points since seventh edition. Not everyone are hyper competitive tournament players.
Or just...the vast majority of people who play 40k?
last poll on dakka was pretty in favour of pts.
40K players on dakka ≠ majority of people who play 40K.
A group of people doesn't need to be a majority to be representative of the whole. None of the other 40k communities I frequent show any hint of favoring PL over points either, quite the opposite.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong: Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other. A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot. Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests. Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books. Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor. Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers. Orks do not have the power of believe.
I would argue that being an active member of this community on this website might Involve liking points over PL due to the community here favoring them. Liking PL might make you an outcast here. Also, except for new players, we all learned with points and find them more comfortable or enjoyable because it’s something from the old game we keep. For that reason alone, I would be inclined that the majority favors points over PL. I Know I do. The topic of this argument hardly has a purpose besides to incite anger at each other when we all know we should be mad at GW. I’m also not validating either of you. Just providing a possible perspective that either one of you could be right, or both, or neither, or that it doesn’t matter so drop it.

Like the meeting at work to discuss the when, where and what for all the other meetings.
As someone who rarely gets the chance to play, I'm looking forward to having more on the build and paint pile.
I'm looking forward to the blinged Primaris in a way that I haven't looked at Marines since the plastic Sternguard and Vanguard veterans were released.
Anyone else's order for indom showing "shipping begins in 13 days" has me a mite concerned. It could just be it hasn't updated or I've really got the release date wrong.

that sounds like the date for second wave doesn't it? Who is your order with?
I know my friends order ended up in second wave and it is arriving mid august.
Another friend ordered from goblin gaming and they completely screwed up their ordering process accepting 100s more than they should, so he doesn't have a clue when his is arriving. Made to order timeline we think.
I ordered last of all my friends and mine is being picked up by royal mail friday. Such a lottery hahah.
Being in Northern Ireland I always have to wait at least one extra day for deliveries over rest of UK, so not expecting mine until tuesday at earliest

Ordered direct from GW, so I hope it's just a bug on their site

They do. It's still annoying and I think GW are the only company I know of that operate like this. Oddly enough, when I ordered my Szeras pre-release I also ordered some spray while I was at it and that arrived a day earlier because they had to courier it, so they're not even consistent.
Yeah, I remember back when GW used to ship stuff to people so that it was supposed to arrive on time (although I swear it was a few editions ago when that last happened...)
But consider the amount of complaining about other people's good fortune (products arriving a day or two early) or complaints about bad fortune (products arriving a day or two late) that trying to ship ahead of time must have caused.
I’ve had things come on the release day that I’ve preordered. They aren’t consistent with it, and I guess it’s just the luck of the draw. I imagine there will be plenty of people who get an Indomitus in the post on Saturday, and there will also be plenty who don’t get it until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Shipping on release day is an old Kirby hold over they were using to limit "leaks" by people getting stuff before release day which could in theory impact sales. Now that they do full open release/reviews once it goes on pre-order it needs to go. It may just be something they've kinda missed over time.

Yeah, given the current situation with shipping I definitely wouldn't be shocked if they started shipping out on Friday for example - the post aren't magic and they still won't arrive before release day, but it would take some of the pressure off their mail order staff to pack and store items given they aren't working with full numbers still. But people could get lucky with their item arriving on time.

What they normally do is they actually pack and have the things ready to go. And have an order in for their delivery service to pick them all up en masse on a certain day.
So the mail order people 'should' have finished everything with the orders at least a day or two before they are due to be dispatched.
