That's the existing fluff which we assume is still going to be valid once they finish the HH series. The problem at the moment is that so many of the key players aren't where you would expect them to be, and more importantly getting them to where they need to be is going to require some major logical leaps given the time requirements involved.
Currently the Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Ultramarines are all in Ultramar. This means that at some point the Blood Angels get themselves to Terra, but for some reason the other two Legions don't. The Dark Angels have to go in a completely different direction and somehow link up with Russ (who is currently on Terra...) and then get delayed on the way back to Terra. The Ultramarines for some reason don't move at all. The White Scars are on the galactic fringe, but somehow get to Terra. We still have no idea where several of the other Primarchs end up.

Chances are the novel will be all about the Alpha Legion pulling off yet another Xanatos Gambit, or maybe it'll be one massive Gambit Roulette where in the end Alpharius will peel off his false face, reveal a dastardly moustache to a wounded Russ, stroke it while calmly explaining his nefarious plot like a Republic serial villain.

I just finished reading "Cybernetica" by Rob Sanders. It looks like the author was writing his book looking at the Mechanicum section of the FW catalog, listing new units as they were destroyed and the story progressed. It's super weird and has this feeling "this part of the book is brought to you by..." Get it when it will be available in the cheapest format possible. 5/10

30-60 pages is not a fair read to judge a book, so I really hope you give it another try.
That said, just checked my bookmark, and its been on 234 for a couple of months (just short of half way through), and its been slow to get there.
But Im quite picky, I even put down Fulgrim.
I dont have a "read all" policy, I firstly pick out the authors I like, second I stay away from authors I dont like and try for cool legions.
Really looking forward to more wolf tales (and some non warhammer ADB fantasy!)

As an aside, that listing posted earlier that places Gav Thorpe's abomination on the same level as Legion is...I actually don't know if there's a word or phrase in English that can succinctly express just how fundamentally wrong that is.

Yeah, you have no idea how truly awful that book is until at least half way through. I don't think you've even had the pleasure of the two top daemons chatting to each other like a Saturday morning cartoon rendition of a bickering married couple. Give it a chance!

I have just decided to start collecting the FW books, ordered the first two they look awesome. I still enjoy the novels, by and large....... But there really have been so many bad ones. The new realm gate series is being done pretty well....but I just can't warm to the stormcasts. Do you know what I miss from black library at the minute across all the ranges, humans just simple down to earth humans. I miss guard, the empire, inquisitors and their followers. I miss normal humans running alongside aliens and super human marines. They seem to have vanished not altogether but any significant presence of them has vanished. I miss my point of reference. The humans made the night lords series great. They made the opening books of the heresy amazing and on and on.

Ha, well for me Fulgrim was the first major pothole in the Horus Heresy series. Fear to Tread is, in my view, a milestone marker for where the rot really set in to the series.
And I'm not talking about Nurgle.
Amazon shows a bunch of HH omnibuses coming up, plus The Unburdened by Annandale, and The Honoured by Sanders.

Even the stories about the normal humans mostly seem to fall into a depressing format though: you are not allowed win, everybody dies, and if you win, it comes at such a high cost you might as well call yourself a loser regardless. Except for Cain, but those are a different kind of format writing.
While "suck" is the essence of 40k, it doesn't exactly motivate one to root for a faction, when they lose all the time or are simply there to suffer because otherwise it isn't grimdark enough.

I stopped reading after Traitor General myself, it just didn't hold my interest any more.
Has anyone read the short story "Hunters" which is about Catachans? I found it.. weird, the way some words were used. Minicomp. Robots. "No racist remarks?"
Huh, the latter in particular, first time hearing about that in a 40k novel. It feels so.. out of place for some odd reason. Automatically Appended Next Post: From Facebook:
What we really need is not a novel about the Emperor, we need one about Sev.

Et In Arcadia Ego
|
http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/wolf-king-le.html
The Wolf King is back in action. Chris Wraight continues the saga of Leman Russ in a new novella, and for the first time, it's available simultaneously in Limited Edition and eBook formats. Choose either the lavish hardback or the digital download and join the battle on Friday 2nd October.
THE STORY
The Space Wolves were set upon by the forces of the Alpha Legion before they had even recovered from the Razing of Prospero – hounded to the edge of the Alaxxes Nebula, in desperation Leman Russ called out to his primarch brothers for aid. None came. Now, with their fleet stranded and supplies dwindling, the warriors of the Rout face almost certain death amidst the rust-red clouds of the nebula. But what a glorious end it shall be, worthy of the sagas of old, and Alpharius’s sons will soon learn that a cornered wolf is always the most deadly...
READ IT BECAUSE
Find out what Russ did next... This novella bridges the gap between 'Scars' and 'Vengeful Spirit' and sees Russ make some hard decisions in the name of victory.

Don't know if this has been mentioned here yet but I'll drop it here for info... Looks like we've got a Von Carstein surfacing in Age of Sigmar. My brother feels it's Mannfred but I think it could be Vlad. A shame Tony Jay is dead though, as that's kind of how I imagined Nagash's voice. http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/prisoner-of-the-black-sun-cd.html THE REALMGATE WARS: THE PRISONER OF THE BLACK SUN (CD £12.00/MP3 £9.99) THE STORY Cast into the Vale of Sorrow upon thunder and lightning, the Stormcast Eternals of Lord-Celestant Tarsus Bull-Heart seek the Starless Gates and an audience with the fabled lord of the Undead, Nagash. But when the Hallowed Knights are ambushed by Khorne's own Bloodbound, they are forced into a pact with a creature from an elder age, a vampire of dubious provenance, one whose name resonates throughout history... von Carstein. LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE It's the first part of a brand new story exploring the never-before-seen Realm of Death. And a pair of familiar faces return from the old world – one of the villainous von Carstein vampires (to find out which one, you'll need to listen to the drama) and the god of Death himself, Nagash in his first speaking role in a Black Library audio drama!
