It's a minor thing but it's a deal breaker on the face overall look, if you look up at the profile pics the forehead is even more prominent than the non existent nose... as for scale it's a non argument since if you can sculpt such detailed face you can add a bit of volume to the nose...

I would argue that he is better looking than a lot of Space Marines however

I'm agree. The nose is too small.
And that vein in the side of the head it is too big.
Nah... another failure by CB. I'm calling them right now on the phone... they have to listen to this...
Hello? yeah, it's me again. You know this DeFersen miniature... yeah, throw it away into the garbage can.
I don't care if the other companies cannot achieve this level of detail where we can talk about the nose of a miniature... I don't care. Trash it.
I once found a bubble in a finecast miniature that would probably had the size of one of the circles DeFersen has in his ear. Fortunatly GW also sells separately some green gak to fix it.

Yes Infinity spoilt me with better models with better lets see a minor detail like the FREAKING FOCAL POINT the face...
Funny how you are so far off from the truth I nit anything I see the need to...infinity or any other company call me picky I dont care its my background so you can save your GW HURRRRRR FANBOY to yourself in fact I'm quite vocal against GW minis so yes the only thing I let slide is your lack of knowledge regarding my collecting behaviour...

Its a nice mini mate but the problem is when CB makes hundred's of nice minis already and with better detailed faces I opt to pick just the ones that I really like. This one is nice but they have made better IMO.
Pacific wrote:I guess if you think a miniature has an ugly face it can put you off using it ?

Depends of the use of the mini if you are a sculptor and a painter like me small details DO influence your final decision on what to buy. I dont care about the space marines and I dont freaking understand why people keep bringing those SM fugly minis from another company to this thread? Off topic? nonsense? because I really could care less about GW and SM?
And a food for the thought the day you guys accept every mini and discard the flaws just because you are a fan its the the day your judgement is not sharp anymore... Automatically Appended Next Post: BobbaFett wrote:I'm agree. The nose is too small.

Really if you guys start using your brains and instead of gluing Infinity to GW products you should do Infinity a better service by just sticking to the point, not sugar coating with biased hurray everything is perfect at CB.... but yes lets be snarky and funny and judgemental and in the end compare it with the market leader because thats so smart hey?

I kind of like it. It makes his face have character.
EDITED TO ADD: He looks to me like maybe growing up he got punched square in the face a lot. And that turned him into such a badass that he doesn't even care. And while the technology in Infinity could allow him to get a "perfect" nose if he wanted he's got people to kill. He doesn't have the time for plastic surgery, there are too many explosions he has to walk away from while not looking at them.

The nose isn't too small. Some people just have small noses. Right now I'm looking across the room at one of the people i work with, and his nose is about the same size (proportionality). Maybe even slightly smaller. Really, not every person in the world has an average sized nose. That's why it's called average.
Actually, I'd say it's not the nose that's too small but the mouth, jaw and chin that are too big. The nose looks fine with the top half of his head and face, but the bottom half is bigger than you'd expect. Not abnormally big, just above average. Overall, I'd say he has an interesting looking face with somewhat uncommonly sized features. Nothing to get upset about. Not everyone's face is perfectly averagely proportioned.

I agree, I should have kept GW out of this discussion. Ok, I see your point, keep pushing the guys at CB to improve their products rather than simply become a CB fanboi......on that point I agree.
The thing that "got" to me, was the fact that this miniature like so many of their miniatures is insanely detailed at that scale, and the nose being sligtly small (which if you look around, there is really no "right" or "wrong" size for a nose in real life!!) made me gasp in shock!!
Given that a facial feature being "good" or "bad" is really in the eye of the beholder I found it strange that something so subjective could be used to class this miniature as a deal breaker! There's absolutely nothing technically wrong with this miniature, other than it doesn't meet your ideal of masculine beauty.....

I suppose the difference is between making a value statement "I think he looks ugly, he has a small nose - I won't buy this model" rather than "that's a bad sculpt - I won't buy this model"
I don't think anyone would really argue the latter.

Why not? A good sculpt its the sum of all its parts and not just some details. You can have a good sculpt even with some flaws yet they are no real match for a flawless sculpt. CB has made both and this is unfortunatly not as good as I hoped for.
Also yes there are humans with strange small noses and the ideal human shape differs from person to person YET I do not believe this strange small nose was nothing more than a accident rather than a conscient sculpt...(specially if you look at Concept art.
I still find it strange that some of you feel the need to be so defensive towards divergent opinions towards something as silly as toy soldiers sculpts.

I hear this argument alot, and it works in both directions. While you and everyone else has a "right" to your opinion, so does everyone else have a right to counter that opinion. Look at it another way, counter opinions generate discussion, otherwise you would have threads consisting of a single post.
All of that said, I would invite you to look at the bigger picture. I agreed with your point about becoming a fanboi and letting fanboi-ism blind people to genuine quality. I still agree. However, I think a small company like CB should be given a bit of slack. They do produce a wide variety of miniatures, and the majority hit all of the right buttons. I think a company operating at this level deserves a break. This may not be the best work that CB can do, but even that "not so good" work is better that 99% of what other companies are putting out right now. I think this miniature falls a long way from being labelled as a Fanboi blinded sculpt. It's a great sculpt, and the character has a small nose......so what?
The other point is that these are predominately gaming miniatures, yes like most 28mm sculpts they can be used for display purposes, however, their primary directive is to be used as gaming pieces. In most cases you will hardly see this guys face in any real detail. I sometimes wonder why CB even puts this much detail on gaming figures (compared to other companies) but there you go, more bang for your buck.
This piece should be judged under correct conditions. If you are only interested in painting, then I would suggest Knight Models, or Andrea Miniatures who specialise in supporting that side of the hobby almost exclusively......I think it's unfair to judge these gaming pieces in the same light as you would judge a 75mm or 54mm sculpt for display only.

Because they are a small company and small companies have to make everything perfect to convince gamers to jump into their range.
A big company can make mistakes and survive, but a small company has to offer excelence to grow and make their stuff attractive to new customers.
How can CB compete against PP or GW? making awesome stuff, constantly.
Would CB survive if they released something like "Finecast"? No, they wouldn't. They will loose their fanbase and go bankrupt.
Small companies cannot disapoint their customers, they have to make good points constantly to sell themselves as a reliable quality company. You all know as well as me that when you talk about a new independent game to a GW zombie they will come out with a hundred of excuses not to even look at it. CB has to fight that with constant awesomeness and re-scultp the bad miniatures from their range, kill the excuses.
GW or PP can release gakky miniatures anytime, they have a solid fanbase, they will not suffer a significant loss of popularity/sales that may kill them.
