That hair would be perfect.

There is seriously one one view of that hairdo on the internet!?!?! And it's kind of dark, but I'll see what I can do.

I added the rest of her head to the face last night, and I will make a mold hopefully by the end of the weekend, and see if the casts come out.

Thanks!

@ El Vik, I plan on trying 5 or 6 different hairdos on the copies, so we'll see how it goes.

@LunarstudioAvA - Thank you! Well, skill can be learned, I'm proof of that, it just takes practice...patience on the other hand...well it's not required. I don't have much patience, just determination.

I have the head in liquid rubber as we speak! It'll be in the pressure pot a bit longer than usuall, as I can't really go home at lunch to take her out. I hope that won't hurt anything.

Anyway, we might see how it comes out by tonight! Well, I will, you all will have to wait for tomorrow.

Here is the mold box for the head:

And here is the head in the box, I got tired of having to open each of my molds to see what what was inside, and marker doesn't seem to stick to the rubber, so I sculpted the content description on the side of the mold backwrads, so it will legible when the box comes off. I hope this works, I don't know why it wouldn't.

Man, sculpted letters on the outside? Brilliant! I was thinking of just writing on a piece of paper and sticking it to the inside of the box to be absorbed by the mold, but your way is probably better.

Also, not using Lego for boxes? Madness!

@Dave - must not be saracastic......

Pressure pot is where you put moulds to cruss bubbles under pressure both silicone and resin to give better casts.

Reverse cutting text - that would hurt my head more than reading reverse text - but nice idea

I don't think I took a picture of the pressure pot....but it's a pressurized paint pot, modified with the outlet closed off. It reduced the size of bubbles in the mold, and forces the mold rubber into the finer detail (which is not always a good thing).

*Ninja'd!*

@ Zinge, it wasn't that hard....I tend to think sdrawkcab anyways, so it was pretty easy. Although I had to start over, becasue at first I wrote it normal, and it took me a while to realize it would be backwards when the mold came out.

I only have a small collection of legos....and I don't have enough to cover this one. For some reason, they keep dissapearing...also, my daughter loves to play with them...I wonder if there is a connection?

Oh!

I forgot to add the most recent pics of the body! A few more armor plates added. The legs will get hydraulics and such added soon, I just want to get the plates done first.

I'll take a picture tonight. "Apparatus" is the word! There are all sorts of bells and whistles on this thing!

I don't even know if I put it together right, but it works, and it hold pressure, so....I guess it will do.

You lost me Vik. Not sure what you mean here.

But thanks! She is coming along quite well, but you do know she's only like an inch tall right? Not sure what you could do to......wait. I don't want to know.

Here I was thinking I could go right home to cut open the mold, but we are looking at houses again tonight, so I will have to wait several more hours! Not fair!

However, one of them has a HUGE garage with an office in the garage! "I claim the entire garage in the name of me!!!!"

You obviously need a tiny flag to plant to properly declare such things. We are beginning to look for a new place now that we know we will be semi-permanent down here, but since only one of us has a real job at this point it is a little less fun, and I will be lucky to have a shed

LOL, the cool thing is I don't need a flag, she wants me to have a room for my stuff. That we can lock and not let guests see the mess!

None of the 3 houses we looked at last night were what we are looking for. I hate going right after work too, because everyone is hungry and gets cranky, and it's a struggle just to walk through a dang house! I am going to insist we have time to eat first from now on!

All of the houses were over-priced for the size. That is a big problem in this town. It's a college town, and a "desirable" place to live, so everything is way out of whack!

There is one place we looked at a couple of weeks ago that is expensive, but is HUGE! 3 times the size of our current house, 2 car garage, AND TWO rooms for me! And it has a pool! Which is a plus and a negative with kids around...

We need to sell our house first, or at least get an offer on it to have more leverage with that house though.

Anyway, the mold came out great, it should have with 12 hours in the pressure pot. ('Doh! I forgot to take a picture of it! Sorry Dave!)
And the backwards writing worked pretty well too.

The casting however, worked just ok. The face came out just fine, but the head was hollow. So I will need to fill it in with GS to be able to sculpt hair on it. Not a problem.
The picture is dark, just to be able to see any detail. I'll paint it gray later so the detail will come out better.

The second one I did was even worse, so I need to make some changes to my system so the air bubbles can get out. Right now I use the quick set resin that comes with the Smooth-On starter kit, and the pot life (time you have to pour it) is really short, so there just doesn't seem to be time to get it in the mold and in the pot before it's too late. Although, to be honest, I haven't tried to put the resin in the pot yet, so I don't know for sure. The pressure pot is in the basement, and a pain in the rear to get down there just to cast a few bits of resin. So next time, I will do it, just to see if it improves things.

I want to order some slow-set resin, but it will have to wait a bit until I get a few more things sold. The wife doesn't like to let me spend OUR money on MY projects, so I have to fund everything with my sales. It makes sense, it's just inconvienient.

Well, I only had limited time last night, so not much to show. More later!

Thanks for looking,
RSJake

You need a vacuum pump - more toys!

Or pour the resin then give it a good squeeze

For some reason this one came to my mind first when I was thinking about some cheap Pump
Yet, I believe there are even more cheap variants, like this one (this will do, right?). I even heard the guys are using Syringes and device, used for Home canning food (I really have no idea, how to call this thingie in English =/ ).

I will definately keep that in mind!

For now though...to avoid shelling out even more money for now...I will try sqeezing the mold, or sticking it in the pressure pot. I'll just do smaller batches, so I can get the mold in the pot before it thickens up.

Thanks for the info though!

I thought you'd need one of those $500 vacuums, and I really haven't even looked at any.

I think the slower setting resin in the pot will do the trick for you. Vacuuming silicone only seems to be necessary if you are not pressurizing it. Everything I have read pretty much implies it is either/or, with the benefits of vacuuming being that you can just let it sit out to cure instead of taking up pressure pot space. Downside is you need >27 psi of vacuum (I think that is the unit) to get silicone to completely degass, which is pretty serious. Also why the systems people sell for it go for hundreds of dollars
