I've been thinking... what do you think happens to balance different size battle groups.

EG 3 X 3 Tank battlegroups vs 1 X 9 Tank battlegroup.

Because it cant go turn 1 3 tanks shoot, then 9 tanks shoot back and then turn 2 another 3 tanks shoot and then 9 tanks shoot back can it?

more battlegroups = more activations, so 3x3 tanks is a lot more versatile than 1x9

Step 1: 3 tanks shoot
Step 2: 9 tanks shoot
Step 3: 3 tanks shoot
Step 4: 3 tanks shoot

Large battlegroups are devastating and versatile, but don't react quickly to battlefield situations. Small ones are destroyed more easily, and tend to be weak against something (a large battlegroup can have AP, AT and AA firepower, a small one will normally be weak in one or more of those) but they can respond to changing battlefield situations, like chasing units with objectives

Dave also mentioned that doing that would be more expensive both points wise and money wise, but he was referring to splitting a single 9 tank dropship into 3 3tank drop ships. I think there may be a cap on the number of battlegroups you can have.

It is implied that you activate a batlegroup per activation and that an battlegroup contains multiple units. After all dropships and contents are different units, but linked together.

So a heavy dropship and nine tanks can be a battlegroup and one activation, but it can be 2-4 units depending on how the tanks are organised.

As Hawk has said TLOS counts but models can fire through their own unit, this favours large units if you can mix unit types in a singe unit.

Just pre-ordered a UCM starter and rulebook through Firestorm Games, committed now.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to order them? So far I've seen 10% off from Maelstrom and Firestorm.

I'm tempted to pre-order, but I quite fancy having a look at these in person and going from there depending on what FLGS is doing some kind of release-day special.

Cheapest place I found is Hawk Wargames itself so long as you are after mega deals. Thats 20-20% off. Next are starter boxsets at Firestorm/Maelstrom, a total of 20% off. Large sets at Hawk are about 15-17%, then the standard 10% discount.

Hope this thelps, if you find any better than 10% let me know.

The primary provider should allow an undercut on prices, with 10% max this is not possible as Hawk undercuts its own price by 25%. Good marketing strategy, not sure if it fits monopolies regulations. Hawk can decide not to retail through third parties, but if they do they have to allow for a clear undercut by third parties because of thei investment risk.

All German retailers are asked to not offer any discount greater than 10% if any at all.

No reason given, but it is difficult to establish a new tabletop game if you price the FLGSs out of the market. All online only distributed games disappeared in no time (Demon World, Vampire Masquerade).

Works fine for flames of war, and many others... besides, Showcase is throwing in a free rulebook with the starter, and they're as friendly a FLGS as you'll find

You mean the company that stopped delivering to Maelstrom because Malstrom gave discounts on their products?

On the other hand Mealstrom used discounts they got for theri shop for the online stuff which was a little bit too creative.
