I think the Ven Diagram of "People who buy $50 Playmobil cars" and "James Bond fans" is 2 circles about 10' apart.

I noticed that when I blundered across a Playmobil Star Trek crew 4-pack with Kirk, Bones, Spock and Uhura.

I was soooo tempted to add both to the basket! I definitely draw the line at the bluetooth enabled Enterprise that Playmobil pushed out.

I've got a bunch of the plastic desert rocks I textured and painted and they've been in use for over a decade. I keep seeing the gladiator arena in pop up on people's tables. Also I've got the pirate island without any other parts in the garage awaiting use someday...

The police station converted into an Arbites Precinct features earlier in this thread.

The various Coliseum and Olympus playsets have potential as well.

An interesting discovery my son and I just made.
Bandai has an affordable "30 minute Missions" series. Kind of Like HG Gunpla in size, but a bit more military looking and very modular for customizing and reassembly. Almost like zoids modularity with a fair amount of utility for wargame kitbashing.
https://bandai-hobby.net/site/30minutes_missions/
I just picked this guy up to be a loader bot for my spaceport. He's about 5 inches tall or so.
https://bandaihobby.hatenablog.com/entry/2022/05/19/160000?

Turns out that the many holes they have for attaching gear are the same size as the pegs on many of the mech and gear accessories for the DollarTree "Final Faction" Line. Most of which can be seen here:
https://www.dollartree.com/searchresults?Ntt=faction
To be clear, the action figure weapons don't fit and the backpacks are a different size peg, but my son reports that almost all the other gear and such with peg attachment (especially the mech parts) is compatible. The one thing we might do is cut a few of the pegs a touch shorter so the gear sits closer to the Bandai figs.

Some scale shots of the Lightyear truck.

This seems to be the sweet spot for buying LY toys, when they're on clearance and before they become rare collectors items.

Great pics. Just got my truck today, will be an excellent addition to my sci Fi terrain. I agree that semi-failed toy lines like light-year hit the sweet spot for clearance prices and availability. Bought two packs of the drop pods for 7 bucks each also off Amazon.

Found the Avatar sets in store today. Didn't buy any, but I measured and the figures they come with are about 38mm sole to eye and all the vehicles look fantastic for 28-34mm gaming.

My spaceship box is full now (more than full, I still have 2 huge transports to paint) so I won't be adding any Avatar gunships ATM.

Maybe when they're on clearance

Looks like a good 1 man VTOL, city flier sort of thing.

Looks like the others are rereleases with some paint changes and spring loaded missile launchers on the bottom, like the Armadillo that got the big grabby claw.

So you say you need boxes?

For years my go-to has been Reaper's line of modern terrain for cargo crates and similar items but I may have to give these a look.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FJTVWJ1/?coliid=I1PU3A48QNV94B&colid=1AQNEF7RBO6IS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

8 unpainted HO scale (1/87) plastic cargo crates for $20. 40k is 28mm/O scale/1/48 give or take but these should still work. At 3cm/30mm tallx70mm long they'll screen most models.

The same page also has 40' (in scale) crates that should be 140mm long.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097DL5SB4/?coliid=I3OD6JI4KHLTJ9&colid=1AQNEF7RBO6IS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

There's also pre colored ones

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CPPYKHW/?coliid=I1C5BP56OZRI2D&colid=1AQNEF7RBO6IS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

And longer colored ones.

HO shipping containers are good for scatter terrain crates but they may be smaller than you think. Later today. I'll snap a pic next to one for scale.

If one is in need of cheap shipping containers accurately scaled in 28mm, these are my favorite:
https://crossoverminiatures.com/product/economy-shipping-containers-28mm-scale-mdf-4/
4 twenty footers for 15 bucks is hard to beat and the deal gets better the more you buy. Not the most detailed, but nicely done and very sturdy. Here's mine after a very quick paint job.

O scale is better suited for 28/32mm than HO scale. HO is definitely on the small side.

Per the below, HO is close to 20mm and O is close to 30mm.

I agree. I think though that KidKyoto is looking at them as shipping crates rather than Shipping containers. For that purpose they'd probably be pretty good in the 20' length though the 40'ers would look weird. Still haven't had a chance to get pics. Will try tomorrow. I've got a ton of HO 20' containers.

HO stuff in wargaming scales varies. Some larger industrial structures such as engine sheds (I have one of these converted up) can look pretty good in 28mm if you resize or remove pedestrian doorways. Generally though they are best for 20mm or 15mm as they sit right between those two scales.

For 28mm-34mm O Scale (1/48) is generally a good match. S scale (1/64) can be good for some structures and larger vehicles, though it looks comically small for most autos.

I just did a photoshoot of my spaceport terrain that kind of shows the size of the Reaper 20' and 40' crates.

The HO scale crates would be about half their size but could be stacked to make for some boxes or crates.

Those Reaper cans look great. What's the height on them? They almost look like 1/64 which is a pretty good compressed size for 28mm gaming.

Here's Lionel "intermodal" containers (actually just removable van trailer bodies). They're about 1/64 and intended for use with compressed-scale 0-27 trains.

They're fairly affordable on eBay as most O Gauge railroaders want something closer to scale.

Threw this together just now. Older Infinity figs for comparison.

For reference, a standard shipping container is 8.5 feet tall. That translates to a bit less than 2 inches for 28mm, so anything around 2 inches or 50mm seems to be standard and works very well. Especially since we're usually dealing with heroic figs on bases

In the picture below the brown one second from the right is the Reaper. It and the three to its left are spot on for 28mm. The next two (Lionel Cola and MNU) are about 1/64 (S Scale) the three on the far left are 20', 40' and 53' HO scale (1/87). Based on height, the long white on the far right is a 1/48 container that comes to about 48 scale feet.

Looks like I was wrong about the Reaper which is 28mm and the HO 20' cans which look like they would make great cargo crates.

Gonna throw this out there. This weekend I'm selling a batch of mostly die cast stuff ranging from 1/48 to 1/38 at a model sale. Very reasonable prices. A few semis and some cars including the white can and the semi and trailer that go with it. If anyone wants dibs before then, send me a PM.

Those are cool looking.

I meant "Cans" as in slang for shipping containers. I assumed the Reapers were undersize from the pictures, but I measured one It turned out I had and it looks like they're spot on for heroic 28mm.

If you've got a Dollar Tree around get there quick. The Hot Wheels versions of the Lightyear ships are there!

Except for the space pickup and the purple capital ship, they're all between 10 and 15mm in scale.

The 12" Millennium Falcon is down to $25 on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Micro-Galaxy-Squadron/dp/B09PMPQDFZ/ref=pd_rhf_d_gw_s_gcx-rhf_sccl_1_6/147-0520110-9112725

Might be a bit small for 28mm but I could work as terrain for Star Wars board.

Tempted to add it to my Space Port but I'm running out of storage space and it would take a lot of work to make it look like it's not the Millennium Falcon if that makes sense.
