First Founding looks nice, I hope it will be more than just a Races&Classes book, like Rites of Battle was. Care to shed some light on that HBMC?

Nope. I can only really talk about what's been made public, and all that's been made public so far is that the book exists.

So I can confirm that it does exist.

Amazon is the devil: 'We're happy to inform you that your book is ready a week earlier then we had previously announced!" "We regret to inform you that we are having trouble processing your card at this time!'

Both emails came within give min of each other. I wonder why there might not be money in the bank to cover it a week before it was supposed to be shipped??? Particularly since the banks were closed for the night when both these emails were made...

I just pre-order from thewarstore now, my other site was not predicting black crusade for another year and a half.

The last order I made with them I ended up cancelling, and I got a free Mark of the Xenos in the mail a week later.

Black Crusade should be out soon. These things usually hit sometime in September and it's only the 9th.

Et In Arcadia Ego

Canterbury

.. I heard maybe end of Sep or early October..

.. if so guess that'll be the preview stuff at GD ; Uk perhaps ?

Citadel of Skulls and The Achilles Assault are now, finally, in my manly clutches, my long battle with the post office and their redelivery plots and schemes having been resolved in my favour.

.. was there ever any doubt ? yes. Yes there was.

anyway..

Only had a brief flick through them, mainly at the stats that are offered up.

Should really read Citadel of Skulls first.. but the Achilles Crusade book.. oh man ! It's really, really good Kudos to all those involved. Every time I flick to a different section I keep getting drawn into it, there's so many col ideas, stories and little fluff nuggets in there.

I know there's a few people who only buy these books for the fluff, if so then this book is pretty much essential.

I especially like the Hadex Anamoly stuff.. especially the Limitless Grasp idea... that is a wickedly cool idea.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Achilus Assault is out? Finally! I'll need to get FFG to send me my copy then.

The Achilus Assault is a book that our group really liked. It was actually the first thing we play-tested for FFG, and I'd like to think that we had a lot of influence on certain things (Mephidast and the Dark Apostle especially) - though that could be my ego talking (). The Fire Wasp has become a near-mandatory piece of kit for our group, and the Dragon's Fang Relic gets used by our Blood Angel Assault Marine every chance he gets. I love the section on the Space Hulk - it's easily my fav thing in that book and we've used it as the setting for a number of our games.

Aside from play-testing this book, I also proofread it (hence the reason why I'm in no rush to read it - I've already read it cover-2-cover three times). Make sure to thank fellow Dakkanaut, the_dunner, as he is responsible for a lot of the Tyranid stuff in that book, including the best description of the stages of a Tyranid invasion that I've ever read.

I can't go into the development process of any book (NDA's and all that), but I will say that even my small involvement in this book was a big learning experience for me. It gave me a first hand look at the development cycle for a book, and gave me a greater appreciation for why these things take so long (we first saw this book in late Jan/early Feb).

I know nothing in regards to that subject. If they have, I haven’t seen it (and besides, even if I had, I wouldn’t be able to say anything about it). Thinking about it though, the Scythes don’t do a great deal during the period where Deathwatch is set. Their shining moments (that we know of) come during the Damocles Crusade, which is pre-Deathwatch, and Hive Fleet Kraken, which is post-Deathwatch.

The Achilus Assault is finally here:

FFG wrote:The Assault Begins
The Achilus Assault, a supplement for Deathwatch, is now available

“All ships, fire at will! Gunner, get me a lock on that hive ship... I want our nova cannon ready to fire the instant we enter optimal range.”
–Final received transmission from the Dominator-class Cruiser Ferrum Aeterna

The Achilus Assault, a supplement for Deathwatch, is now available at your local retailer and on our webstore!

This detailed sourcebook tells of the Achilus Crusade and the great challenges it faces from both without and within. Living up to the ideals of honor, brotherhood, and duty is a difficult task, and it is the fate of the Deathwatch Space Marines in the Jericho Reach to shoulder this duty head-on—they are the first and last line of defence against a myriad of threats to the Crusade of which some commanders are not even aware.

Incoming Orders

For more on this invaluable resource, we present a few insights from Deathwatch’s lead developer:

The setting for the Deathwatch RPG is a massive war front—the Achilus Crusade—sweeping across the lost worlds of the Jericho Reach. The front lines of this interstellar conflict are a great backdrop for the adventures of the Deathwatch Space Marines battling alongside the Crusade forces, and the Achilus Assault is a brand-new sourcebook that brings all of this into focus for a Deathwatch campaign. The Achilus Assault provides detailed descriptions for some of the Jericho Reach’s most significant planets and warzones to allow players and GMs alike to plan new Deathwatch Missions.

Each of the three major salients of the Achilus Crusade have their own unique themes and deadly enemies. Some foes may be reasoned with, whilst others must be fought to the bitter end. This book describes the major threats to the Crusade’s advance and describes how the efforts of Deathwatch Kill-teams can tip the balance.

With The Achilus Assault, you can bring your Deathwatch campaign into the front lines of the Crusade, and choose which worlds shall be saved, and which shall burn.

For more on The Achilus Assault, check out our detailed previews: Hive Fleet Dagon, A Diseased Soul, and Know the Man, Know the Mission. Then, head to your local retailer today and begin the assault!

Not so impressed by Achilus Assault. Again we get a crunch-free source book. There are sidebars (ooh) and a handful of stat blocks along with a ton of fluffy stuff that makes interesting reading but in the end the Jericho Reach still seems hollow. I don't blame the content, because the book was designed as a basis for a GM to develop their own content on top of this setting.

Okay. But I really want more crunchy bits in my source books. Like Edge of the Abyss for RT. That one is similar in the doughy plot possibilities and the same stale adventure no one ever plays but put some awesome content in the middle on opponent.

Got Citadel of Skulls the other day. Party ground it into submission in just two sessions.

I hope Vall had good insurance, the party left no Inequity to go back to.

Criticising the setting-expansion book for not being a crunchy rulebook seems a bit daft to me. Makes about as much sense as accusing Rites of Battle of being too rule-focused.

Each line has a book like this - Disciples of the Dark Gods, Edge of the Abyss and now The Achilus Assault. I can't remember what the Black Crusade one is, or even if it's been mentioned, but you can be pretty sure we'll be getting one of those as well. World-building books are necessary. If you want crunch you'll just have to wait for First Founding.

“A right dangerous place, to be sure. Only a madman would make it a habit to travel there...but as the saying goes, only the insane truly prosper!”

The Ultimate Heist

Can you and your fellow Explorers navigate safely through your impending expedition? Your journey begins with strange developments, untrustworthy guides, and the awakened mysterious force shadowing your every step. The way to Vall’s seat of power is blocked by potential hazards and a sky full of raiders, slavers, and reavers. Plot your course through Vall’s dark cathedral, past quivering slaves and brutal enemies, bloody chambers, and the ossuaries full of bones that give the Citadel its name. And once you reach the Casket of Secrets you’ll meet “the Archivist.”

Citadel of Skulls can be played as a standalone adventure or connected to the events introduced in The Frozen Reaches. Will you be able to withstand the voyage?
