Yes Kan, that's a Penitent Engine. And you do fight one during the adventure!

Well... Blood of Martyrs has rules for Penitent Engines (I presume the ones in Church of the Damned are just the copypasta'd version, but I'd have to check). If you have a nice enough GM (or twisted enough GM) I 'spose they could let you pilot one.

That said, I'm pretty sure that 'Penitent Engine Pilot' would be a lot like the 'Sister Repentia' alternate rank - a one-way trip. You don't come back from that.

Well... given what penitent engines do to their pilots, the pilot might see "stick pokes" as a refreshing break from the usual torment...

Yeah what's up with that? Amazon bites when its comes to FFG stuff. I was still waiting for Daemonhunter when I just bought a copy on PDF from Drivethrurpg. Two months after the release date they are still saying it wasn't available yet.

Amazon is notoriously weird with release dates for all sorts of stuff.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

The major US distributor doesn't have it yet.
And FFG has the following strategy:
They could either send their first batch to all the FLGS in the world or to Amazon. They chose the first option which is nice and helping the hobby.

It'll probably be out this month or next month. Don't trust Amazon's release dates. They're nonsense.

Yeah. Amazon's release dates are usually based upon 2 things.

1) When they expect to have an "acceptable" level of stock.
2) If they have an exact date from the supplier.

It's why you'll see many games given release dates of "December 31st, XXXX"(with XXXX being the year you're currently in) because they've been given no set release date other than "this year".

Time for a Rogue Trader preview:

FFG wrote:The Gratitude of the Expanse
A preview of Fallen Suns, the upcoming Rogue Trader adventure

“Brand me a heretic, but I love xenos. Selling the gear from the bodies of the ones I slay has made me a wealthy man."
–Rogue Trader Krawkin Feckward

Last month, Fantasy Flight Games announced Fallen Suns, the third and final instalment in The Warpstorm Trilogy for Rogue Trader. Today, we’re pleased to offer a preview of Fallen Suns by contributing writer John Dunn.

I was fortunate to have an opening in my writing schedule at the same time that the Rogue Trader development team needed an author for Fallen Suns. Working closely with Sam Stewart and Ross Watson, I crafted the plot details for the adventure, while Jason Marker fleshed out the Gazetteer section and created the game statistics for the adventure’s encounters.

Raising the Bar

Fallen Suns is the final instalment of The Warpstorm Trilogy. Without spoiling too much, in The Frozen Reaches, the Explorers faced an Ork horde large enough to conquer a planet. During Citadel of Skulls, they confronted a well defended Chaos fortress. My first challenge was to identify a foe that offered a threat appropriate to follow what had come before.

Fortunately, the Koronus Expanse is a source of bountiful story hooks and phenomenal dangers. The region plays host to lost worlds, unknowable threats, and the constant dangers of the warp. The development team was kind enough to let me interweave some of the threats that had been hinted at previously. Pulling from the the first two books of trilogy as well as materials from the Rogue Trader Core Rulebook, Edge of the Abyss, and Lure of The Expanse, I worked with the rest of the team to develop an Eldar threat of titanic proportions.

Previous materials had established that some of the Eldar within in the Expanse are extremely hostile towards humanity. Fallen Suns reveals at least one of the reasons for that stance. The adventure challenges the Explorers to overcome this animosity at the same time that they must defend themselves from a threat that endangers the entirety of the Expanse. If the Explorers take care, they may unearth countless xenos secrets from this ancient threat at the same time as they recover priceless xenos artefacts and technology. Of course, the Explorers are not the only people within the Expanse interested in uncovering its secrets and harnessing its power.

If the characters succeed in overcoming their foes, the potential rewards are immeasurable. Their Profit Factor could skyrocket as human and xenos alike rush to show their gratitude. New information and technology could lead to countless new adventures, or it could be sold to those willing to exploit it. The Explorers might ensure the economic stability of their dynasty for generations or choose to expand in entirely different directions using their newly procured resources. Immeasurable vistas open for those who have saved the Expanse from such a dire threat.

Conversely, if they fail, their lives become far more challenging and potentially much shorter. The risks are dramatic, but the rewards are vast. For those Explorers willing to accept the chance of death and near-certain damnation as they confront overwhelming odds, the Endeavour presents an unparalleled opportunity.

Ongoing Saga

Unless the Explorers meet with tragedy, this adventure wraps up the end of an adventure trilogy but does not complete their story. There are countless additional tales to tell within the Koronus Expanse. Because of this, the scenario concludes by presenting a variety of new hooks that tie in to the revelations contained throughout The Warpstorm Trilogy. Depending upon their decisions, the Explorers may be anxious to seek vengeance and repayment from dozens of foes, or they might be fleeing their former allies. Both of these possibilities and their myriad variants are considered, as the Explorers prepare to embark upon their next Endeavour.

Keep checking back for more on Fallen Suns, and look for it on store shelves in the fourth quarter of 2011!

I was lucky enough to be hired as the proof-reader for this book, so I got to fix all of John’s mistakes (like where he's used the word 'the' twice in a row in his third paragraph above - ). This is a fun book, and one I really like.

Thanks for posting that, HBMC!

This book really was a ton of fun to write. I only hope that gamers have as much fun exploring it as I did writing it. The scenario can work from a lot of different angles, and I hope folks get a chance to enjoy it.

FFG is looking for more freelancers - Here's the post:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=2618
An Open Call for Freelance RPG Writers
Read on to learn how to submit your best work to FFG for consideration
Calling all prospective roleplaying game writers! Fantasy Flight Games is looking to develop new freelance talent for its multiple roleplaying game lines, and you could be part of our growing family of freelance writers.

Between the dates of September 1, 2011 and September 8, 2011 Fantasy Flight Games is conducting an open call for prospective freelance writers. Those interested are invited to email submissions to Fantasy Flight Games. These submissions will be evaluated, and those who meet Fantasy Flight Games’ criteria and standards can earn the chance to write for one of our roleplaying game lines.

Each submission must consist of the following components:
A cover letter. In this, you should introduce yourself, discuss your familiarity with our various intellectual properties (both those owned by FFG and those licensed from other companies), including Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40,000, and Star Wars.
A resume. This should cover any relevant writing and professional experience. It must also include your full legal name, physical mailing address, email address, and a contact phone number. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
A writing sample. This should be a description and stat block for a single monster or creature in a science-fiction or fantasy setting of your choosing.

When preparing your writing sample, please follow these criteria:

The sample must be no less than 600 words, and no more than 1,000 words including the stat block.
The sample must include both a description of the creature and how it fits into the setting, and a stat block detailing the creature’s characteristics and abilities.
The stat block must use the rules from Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay (any game line) or FFG's Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.
Avoid any violence towards children or otherwise defenseless individuals or any sexual violence. Any submission containing this will be rejected outright, and the writer will not be able to write for us in the future.
We are not looking for comedy entries, and do not submit any easter eggs. Any overt or subtle references to your favorite comic book, movie, song, or other media will get your submission rejected.
Use your best possible grammar and spelling. One of our criteria is good writing ability, not just creative thinking.
The submission must be in .pages, .doc, or .rtf format.

Once you have assembled your submission, email it to freelanceopencall@fantasyflightgames.com. No submissions sent later than 11:00 p.m. CST on Thursday, September 8, 2011 will be accepted. Once all submissions have been collected, we will evaluate them to see which meet our criteria for freelance writers.

Please note that due to the large number of submissions, Fantasy Flight Games will not send any response to acknowledge receipt of your submission, whether your submission is accepted or rejected. If your submission is accepted, we will enter your name into our freelance roster, but we may not contact you until we have an assignment for you to work on. There is no guarantee at any point in this process that we will hire you as a freelance writer.

Also, please note that by submitting your writing sample you are voluntarily giving up your claim to this writing sample. Any writing samples that involve Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay are also subject to Games Workshop’s Submission Policy. Please read this in relation to this material.

Good luck to everyone in this open call, and have fun!
