No real issues at the tournament.  One or two people didnt like something or another but they were the minority.

We also had an issue with using a ringer.  23 players showed and the Organiser allowed another local player in with the understanding that he couldnt win anything but would be allowed to play for the day....for fun.  Some had an issue with that.

Interesting. What was the complaint? Using a ringer means someone doesn't sit out a game, and how do you score a bye in a tournament if you do have them sit out? Full points? It's pretty standard to have a ringe handy to play the odd man. I've seen GW do it for GT's, and my son got to play in a Games Day LOTR GT this year for two rounds when they asked for a volunteer. We used one in Philly. He had taken 4th in his local tournament, and we had him bring his army along just in case. He played two games when we lost a player after round 1.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

For someone who keeps claiming to be done talking you sure can't let it go, huh? I hope you can relax and enjoy the hobby in the future.

You can attack me some more if you like, this is my last word on this subject. It's certainly not worth my time or energy.

Wish us luck at the finals in Baltimore everybody!

I for one had a great time at Showcase comics in Media Pa

In fact, I liked it so much that I'm gonna be on the look out for more events there and take the drive to visit on occasion next year.

Its a shame that not everyone had the same enjoyable experience.

I am looking forward to seeing you all, well most of you anyways, in Baltimore.

Ted.

Yep.

Will I see you when I go to an RTT at Sci-Fi city?

I am packing as I type. I was going to leave 4 hours ago and was planning on getting to Las Crucas, NM tonight, but I think Tuson is a more reasonable goal.

Yup. You will indeed see me at Sci-Fi City every saturday. I also play in RTT's there as well. There is a great group of gamers in the Orlando area. Looking forward to crossing paths with ya.

Well I heard (on the Internet no less) that to play in the finals you had
to take a shower.

With soap.

Hah hah, that would never happen because it would disqualify 1/4 of the players.

So now that the name calling is over, an fyi for many of you, this tournament wasn't run by the GT people it was run by the trade sales guys. I spoke with Chris and Dave Taylor myself and they directed me to the store's rep and his boss Brendon. That is probably the cause for much of the confusion on many levels they just aren't that experienced at running tounaments.

I don't know about the rest of you but I think Lemartes and I both have room to be bent (playing against a cheater who the judges wanted us to make a ruling on whether or not he should be disqualified, then having a decision apparently made and subsequently overturned flip flopping our placement twice) and admittedly he has taken it better than I have, and in the end I hope he is able to go to the finals, I cannot or I would enjoy coming and crushing the rest of you who are hopefully as good as the hype. =)

Seriously this is the first forum I have ever posted on because the shenannigans at Endzone were enough to drive me to it, and with the kind of crankiness that I have seen along with personal attacks, it will probably be the last one I post on as well.

I think any rational person can agree that GW tournament scenes can improve vastly from local to GT, the sportsmanship system is crap (anytime you can shaft your opponent just because) by the way I have never given worse than an 8 because I just play that way and hope Karma will return it. The painting system is ridiculous, I stayed up until 4 am before my first RTT finishing my army then was forced to play someone who had figs not even completely assembled and the best painted award was won by a store employee who had 2 units painted, he was on the clock too. Finally for the tournaments isn't the point to be competetive? GW needs to put out more standardized rules for terrain and more consistent scenarios so that it really does come down to generalship.

Also people need to realize (especially judges) that all manner of tom-foolery is going to occur when you don't have to pay to play and first prize is potentially worth thousands of dollars. I like the idea of a free tournament, but $10-20 entry weeds out a lot of people and their dishonesty.

In the end I reiterate, other than playing the cheater I thoroughly enjoyed playing my second and third opponents, Tim and Dean respectively who both had good looking fully painted armies. By the way my prayers go out to Tim and his daughter, hope everything is going well with her new prosthetic leg. Having 326 guardsmen face off in rapid fire range of 72 necrons and 2 monoliths wow! Then 50 conscripts charging in and knocking down 1 necron who subsequently got up, that is 100 attacks for those of you counting at home. It was truly epic. Dean was mechanized Tau and really didn't stand a chance coming in piecemeal against all 25 of my heavy weapons, but he took it like a man and gave it the old college try. Still one fun game, which included 7 rounds of conscripts led by Ibram Gaunt tying down an entire flank of Tau shooting. Man that was a slug fest of crappy close combat.

I would really love to see a truly competetive tournament circuit put into place, I think most of us would really enjoy it, hopefully this is the first step there, so lets give honest open feedback and keep the personal attacks out of it. For all of you veterans, I guess I am a relative nub and I haven't kept track of my tournament results for all to see, I only found the game 6 years ago, but I have quickly become one of the elite players in the Mountain West, so come out to Utah I play at Mind Games virtually every weekend, I go by Jimmy. Lets throw down. Matt by the way makes awesome terrain that is both good looking and playable.

Hope to see you soon.

I totally agree with Froggage that GW needs to take a hard look at their competitive play system. They could borrow from the trading card game companies like Wizards of the Coast and Upper Deck.

I believe in the old adage that "fences make good neighbors". If you make the rules and penalties clear and firm, everybody knows where the line is. It's always been too wild west for me in this game, but I just learned to play in the system. If you are a good player and go to enough tournaments you win eventually.

There would be less hurt feelings if the rules were clear and universal, though.

whidbey

froggage- I think the scenerios for hard boys were awesome. did they screw some armies? yes. but thats what being a good general is about. you use your force and you win no matter the odds. no scenerio is balanced. I really do like the way adepticon release the possible missions before hand so you won't be surprised yet the range is wide enough you can't customize

Dude, when I said previously that I was done on the subject I meant it. Attack me all you like, you won't get a rise out of me.

In a perfect world the rules would be clear and concise across the board, applied by judges with no bias and extensive knowledge. I would prefer that over what we have now, but in the meantime I gotta accept what the judge says and decide if the tournament scene is worth the hassle.

Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I'm happy to have friends that share the love of the game. If I didn't have my buddies to share laughs and gripes with, it would not be worth the hassle.

I meant what I said about you letting go and moving on. I hope you can relax and enjoy the hobby.

I would definatley like a Swiss system were winners advance and play winners. Use GW points system and thier should never be draws. I have 1200 vp's and you have 1225, you win. I won on the number two table at Endzone so was thinking 3rd place or possibly second. Top table has a tie between first and second potentially letting the 3rd place person take first. So the best two players in the tournament knock each other out of the one and two spots potentially. Then you find out that because someone comes up thru the brackets that your not even in 3rd. In a swiss pairing this fiasco just doesn't happen. Winners win and advance losers play for lower placement ranking. Bring your A game or go home. This is the only way to find out who the best truly are IMO as the Ardboys rhetoric asks. You should also play thru until thier is only one undefeated person if you truly want to know who the best is.  This isn't meant to start a flame war this is just my opinion.

Well as i just got yelled at by Rob.. ill say this and leave it alone for real

You enjoy your new army... it isnt worth much if you have to use an illegal list to win.

Having 326 guardsmen

That's an insane number of bullet catchers and that much IG rapid firing in mission 2 would have most in tears. That's enough IG to cover the entire table. I honestly don't think I would have been able to cope with that much in mission 2 but again that points out one other flaw that I see. You hope thru out the day you match up with armies X,Y,Z so you can get massacres, armies A,B,C will probalby only give you solid victories, armies D,E, may even result in a loss. So a tier 2-3 Necron army/player who is very good knows he can beat almost any one he plays but can only manage solid victories and not massacres. So veteren players know going in that you must use a tier one army if you want to stand a chance at winning the whole thing because you have to achieve massacres. Again a win should be a win and play until thiers only one. (my new highlander mantra)

In My opinion the Ard Boyz scenarios were what GW should run for competitive play tournaments. It makes the game less about makeing the killer optimized list and more about building a balanced list and learning to use what you have. Does anyone have a link to where the scenarios are posted or have at least all of the round 2 ones? I need to get them for my collection.

Imperial Gaurd 18,000 Orks 16,000 Marines 21,900
Chaos Marines 7,800 Eldar 4,500 Dark Eldar 3,200
Tau 3,700 Tyranids 7,500 Sisters Of Battle 2,500
Daemons 4,000

Jesus H. Christ on a roman hurtstick, people!

Is it really beyond the ken of imagination that this type of thread, let alone this type of results would have emanated from a GW tourney where its "the baddest of the bad"?

I saw the ads for 'ardboyz and chuckled to myself.

There would be no way in hell, nor on god's green earth I would ever attend such a function. RTT's and GT's are bad enough.

*sigh* this thread is made of suck...

...just like the tourney.
