Sadly that is what it looks like - can't imagine playing this on a console, LOL. ::: shudders :::
This is such a GREAT game, makes me thankful that I have a nice PC to play it at a good speed with some nice graphics. WOOT!

Honestly, from my experience with FPS games on PC, I prefer FPS games on consoles, just because people's sensitivity isn't quite so ridiculous and thus the gameplay is much more conservative. I know it must look much better on PC, but the PC hardware race has always kind of turned me off, especially since I know nothing about hardware and installing it with computers. 64 players must be nice too, but I still love the game on Xbox.

I like my console for some FPS games, but with BF3 you're underwhelmed on the console version. The biggest complaint is that the maps are too large and you run forever before finding anyone to shoot.

Well to an extent that's what I like about BF- unlike cod, there isnt some five year old jumping around every corner spraying and praying with a P-90. Also, there is plenty of room to outmanoeuver (sp?) your opponent, and the huge maps make for sweet long range sniper shots and what not. Bad Company 2 seemed to have a good ratio of map size to players, but I agree, sometimes on maps like Caspian Border it just feels too spread out. Spawning on teammates and vehicles does make getting around the map easier though.

Sorry, but in real life wars are fought in tight, confined regions, not vast tracts of land.

All wars in real life are fought in the same type of environment? I'll preface this by saying I have no combat experience whatsoever and don't really know much about modern combat, but I find that sweeping generalization hard to believe. I also understand that combat probably does focus on cities and thus urban environments in this day and age but what about when an army is advancing on a city?

First of all my statement was a joke, second of all BF3 has all sorts of maps. Seine Crossing is a good city map, Caspian Border is a good open map at a border crossing, and Operation Firestorm is a nice desert fight for an oil facility. Then there are coastal maps with amphibious ships. No those aren't aircraft carriers, those are amphibs.

The joke being that for every hour of total time spent in combat while out on a patrol, you'll spend 10 more climbing hot piles of rocks for as far as the eye can see, and wondering why your ass signed up for this.

I got a buddy of mine from work who plays it on PC and we often team up. He's used to tank and flight simulators so he has a lot of this down, in fact we also both play World of Tanks, which helps in the tank combat portion a bit.
He's a better chopper pilot than I, but we'll often be wingmen for each other and rule the unfriendly skies with guns and rocket pods. I would suggest that if you are in a fighter that you should stick with your other fighter to be more effective. It means you can double team enemy fighters and it also means that you can take out enemy tanks or other vehicles in one pass.
If you decide to work together to blow up some enemy armor the first guy gets a vehicle disabled and points for assisting in vehicle destruction which should amount to around 150 points, the second guy should get a vehicle destroyed and maybe a kill which should add to 150 points. Of course the first guy gets some bonus points for assisting in a kill I believe, but the points round out to be about the same for both pilots. Team work is what battlefield is all about. If you can't fly and enemy fighters are taking your guys out before they can lift off, get into the AA gun and do some defense.
On a side note, if you do fly bring an engineer class with a stinger. If you get shot down you can eject and target any enemy aircraft and maybe get some revenge.
Use afterburners if someone is getting a lock on you. This ma yseem like a bad idea at first, but it gives you an idea of who is targeting you. If you hit afterburners and evetually lose the lock then it was either a guy on foot, a vehicle, or a helicopter. If it stays locked on then its an enemy fighter chasing you.
When you go to turn and you're being chased by an enemy fighter you should hit the brakes, turn into the enemy fighter, and more importantly go slightly up when turning. Going up decsreases your speed further and allows for tighter turns.
Stealth is a good upgrade, but the air radar is better on hardcore modes where spotting doesn't light up targets on your screen. Air radar replaces your minimap with a little radar that shows you enemy armor, helis, jets, and even spawn beacons. Not sure if it does light up enemy infantry, but just for the vehicles its a good idea. Note: All of this happens in the little radar, not your HUD, at least not in hardcore.

So, pretty sure this game is Modern Warfare with vehicles due to the changes they've made to the damage model.
I much preferred not dying in a heartbeat in BFBC2.
Vehicles combat is fun, infantry meh.

The damage model is actully less damaging than in bc2. The reason why it feel more damaging is because bf3 has better netcode. In bc2 half of your shots would just miss because of bad netcode. In bf3 more shot are being registered.
And the are many times when enemy and me start shooting each other but after noticing that I can't win I run away and survive.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in. |

I think I'm in love with this game. I usually get MVP with 20+ kills and less than 5 deaths. I rarely lose in a tank, and I can drift in jeeps. Just found out there that you can deploy mines out the passenger seat in jeeps.

Helis are hard to fly, a lot harder than jets. Is there an advantage to the controls over the ones in BFBC2? Because they seemed a lot easier in that game, so I was wondering if maybe these controls allowed for greater precision or something

They must be bad shots, or really far away.
I think I'm wrong about it being much different than BC2, its just as annoying.
Military shooter is military shooter, I shouldn't be surprised. At least BC2 didn't have stuff like the IRNV, lololololololol.

They definitely did change them, if you go to options and change them to Legacy I'm pretty sure they are what they were in BC2 though
