That I know if the avatar is looking in the general direction of the post, the eye will follow it and my posts are more likely to be read than if Clint were pointing in the correct direction, which would be away from the post.
Also that I like Clint Eastwood and the Dirty Harry films in partcular.
A professional psychiatrist would probably be able to link it to an unhappy childhood or somesuch crap as well.

Indeed it is.
The conversation went something like this:
Me: "hey, wanna go to Comic Con this summer, and dress up as G.I. Jo-"
S/O: "-Joe characters?! Oh my God, yes! We are dressing up as Cobra!"
Anyway, from our experience, you will probably have no luck at all if you try to get your girlfriend to dress up as this:
However, you may be able to convince her to dress up as this:
And once you convince her of that, then she'll eventually want to upgrade to the "classic" outfit. I know this because:
1. That "classic" outfit will make a novice feel very uncomfortable.
2. Costuming is addictive. Once you put together a good costume and have your picture taken a hundred times by people who are actually impressed, you'll want more of it, and you'll want to out-do yourself.
3. Putting together a good costume and having praise lauded on you will greatly increase a novice's confidence to try something more daring. Such as the "classic" outfit.
Anyway, even before all that, a good first step is to get her into the mix, at least. Did you attend the Vancouver Fan Expo?
