Anecdotal evidence presented here on Dakka seems to suggest this is happening more and more.

I just gave them a ring last week about my Hellcannon being faulty-no request for a returned model or batch number or anything. I even offered to send it, and was told it wasn't necessary. I guess it depends who you get on the phone or how often you've called for finecast replacements. I've only called for 2, because I only have 2 I felt were worthy of replacements.

From the way I had it explained to me, it's not the amount of times you've called for replacements--but rather the volume of a particular model you ordered.

Does volume matter based on how many choices per slot? Hellcannons are a max of 2, I bought one and called on it, they sent a second. Because they did so, after spending a LOT of time (haven't done it yet) I can make the first usable, now have a second and don't need to buy another. The second isn't perfect (just got it an hour ago), but it's leaps and bounds better than the first. Less flash, less destroyed detail on skulls, and no bits of the mould stuck in the model. My point is, how do they judge on volume? Certain models require a lot of purchases, others require one or two-if you buy one, have mistakes, request part replacements and they instead send a full box, now you don't need to buy that second model. I think it's more along the lines of them randomly choosing people to request the models returned or batch numbers. Or maybe every 5 requests results in asking for the return/batch #: thus still happening to random people. Of course, I just ask if they want the original returned.

I've had pretty good luck with finecast models thus far (out of 20 or so finecast models purchased). On the couple of occasions I've had a bad model, I've brought them down to the local GW and swapped them out same day without hassle.

I bought... Archon, Stormlord, Nightbringer, Vanguard Vet box, Vlad, Isabells, Krell, Astarothx2, Dante, 2handed hammer battle priest, Cotez, and Balthazar Ghelt and didnt have any problems with mine, and thats just grabbin from my local stores peg. Maybe its just my luck though because I have had a friend buy a LOTR guy and he had no head and another friends sternguard had some defects. I love it and wish more was in finecast

I picked up Dain and Balin the other day which was somewhat of a mixed bag. Dain was about the same level as my other finecast with only few very small bubbles and no deformations. Balin though was a bit worse with larger bubbles obstructing detail around his beard and axe blade.
Was easy enough to fix with green stuff though.
I still say I prefer finecast as a material to work with over metal.

From the way the guy explained it, the volume does matter based on how many choices per slot. He also made it sound like the way you interact with the CSR might have something to do with it. Apparently they have had people trying to cheat the system, with one example the guy gave of someone calling to report an issue "requiring the whole box to be replaced!" when the horn on a Dark Eldar Incubi's helm was broken.

I don't know about "more and more" but I've always had to return any FC stuff that needed replacing.

I know this is a thread for non-defective purchases, but between two boxes of raptors (a NEW fine-cast addition) i would not be able to field even one squad given the number of defects. Just called to register a complaint, and the result: mail them back. Unfortunately, my dad stole my camera while he was off gallivanting across europe, so, I can't document anything.
