He's looking a good bet for the Golden Boot if he keeps this up. Todays goals have been top class too.

Also, as a supporter of the team that's just paid 10mil for him, Podolski really doesn't look anything special these days.

TBH the whole current German philosophy is not to look special and try and outshine your team mates, at least now at youth level they emphasise team work over individual skill,

Ozil had a good game as did Gomez, should d-usa eat his boot if gomez wins the Golden One?? (hint )

I found the game rather entertaining I must say.

Sad panda.....

Apparently the dutch defensive strategy of 'let every opposing player walk up to the box, then start running after it' isn't paying off.

Here's to Germany-Denmark 1-0, Netherlands-Portugal 2-0. *fingers crossed*

Bad news everyone. d-usa has passed on - he was killed by an avalanche of humble pie May he rest in peace.

That second goal was world class, which begs the question: why the feth didn't he do that against Chelsea?

As for the Dutch, Robben's protest march when he was hauled off pretty much sums it up.

Yes right, it's the same every time with Germany. Never a list of big 'names' but they seem to play so well together as a team. Now they have got some real talent on the ball as well, for me it's only 2 games in but they are looking like one of the favourites.

Hoping that Ireland will be able to show some grit and determination against the Spaniards tomorrow, and hoping that they won't get crushed!

I meant that Spain could do better against Italy as Croatia, surprisingly and vice versa.

There's a crazy rumour going around that Torres scored last night.

Anyway, crunch time this evening. Ideally need to get a win out of Sweden, a team not that familiar with the concept of losing to England.

Spoiler:
19/10/88 - England 0 Sweden 0

Famous in Sweden for Glenn Hysen becoming the first player to gain a six out of five mark in a national newspaper for his brilliant defensive performance. Hysen got a move to Liverpool on the back of it, although he could never reproduce the heroics.

06/09/89 - Sweden 0 England 0

England needed a point to reach Italia '90 - and got it thanks to a brave-heart display from Terry Butcher, who found even a swathe of bandages were not sufficient to stem the flow of blood from a nasty cut.

17/06/92 - Sweden 2 England 1

The game that gave rise to the famous 'Sweden 2 Turnips 1' headline and marked the end of Gary Lineker's international career. Not for the only time, England led early. Sweden hit back and, in need of a goal, Graham Taylor took Lineker off.

05/09/98 - Sweden 2 England 1

England led through Alan Shearer's first-minute effort but the game turned on its head in the space of two first-half minutes as Andreas Andersson's deflected effort was followed by Johann Mjallby putting the hosts ahead. Paul Ince was sent off.

05/09/99 - England 0 Sweden 0

Paul Scholes becomes only the seventh England player to be sent off - and the first at Wembley - for two typically rash tackles. Sweden were marginally the better side but both Henrik Larsson and Kennet Andersson failed to take good chances.

02/06/02 - England 1 Sweden 1

First meeting in successive World Cups. Sol Campbell rose to power home a David Beckham free-kick. Victory hopes in Saitama were dashed when Danny Mills gifted possession to Niclas Alexandersson after an hour and the Swede promptly levelled.

20/06/06 - England 2 Sweden 2

Final match of the group stage started disastrously for England as Michael Owen ruptured his cruciate ligament. It seemed England would win anyway as Steven Gerrard put them back in front five minutes from time. However, Sweden hit back in stoppage time through Henrik Larsson.

I think that Ireland may actually pull a draw out of nowhere to stop Italy going through as Spain back-hand Croatia.
Tonight's games, well watching the news Stevie G is starting the hype which England have tried so hard to avoid this time, so Sweden will get a draw or close win, And France to beat the Ukraine, despite Sheva's best efforts

Heart says 10-0 to England, but my head says 1-1.

As for Ukraine Vs France, I'm predicting a narrow French win.

Last night showed us one thing: the Spanish are back in town. Talk of a German victory is premature. Finalists yes, winners no. In fact, I'm going to be bold:

If Germany win Euro 2012 then I will bare my backside in front of the Brandenburg Gate!! I seem to have this obsession with mooning European landmarks
Go Spain!!

And go England!!!

There is a danger that Ribery ( 5 foot 8 inches) may drown if the rain doesn't stop

Some great goals by Carroll and Walcott, bad defending as well with those scrappy Swede goals.

What a game, and what a substitution that walcott was. Some bad defending that needs to be sorted out but at least we looked better offensively.

Not too sure what to think of Welbeck's goal, whether it was luck or skill. Also Johnson was just unlucky,

I'm inclined to think it was 80% skill and 20% luck, he knew what he was trying to do but was a bit lucky that it came off. Nice set up by Theo, and Welbeck reacted with pretty much his only possible way to score. To be fair all of our goals I thought were brilliant, with Theo's probably being the luckiest.

Aye, Welbeck is one of those 'where did he come from' players for me, as I never noticed his name come up at Man U until this season.
Due to working Sundays I suppose I just miss a lot of their games, (and Premiership games in general) but that was an amazing goal.

Huzzah! England seemed determined to throw that away though. Fortunately, nobody told Walcott about the usual plan

.

He did very well for Sunderland last season, so this was his first real season at Man. U

But get in England. I enjoyed that, bring on Ukraine.

He was on loan at Sunderland the season before, scored a few goals for them, but they had Gyan and Bent as their main strikers that year.

Ah cheers lads, no wonder I hadn't noticed him. I think I've managed to catch a Sunderland game once in the past two years. Sky never seems to have them on the odd Saturday I can catch one.

Yes, let's have that sink in for a moment. Andy Carroll scoring. Also Torres. What kind of space-time continuum have I fallen through and how do I get out? I don't want to live in a universe where Man City win the Premiership, Dogs are the most talented people in Britain and Carroll and Torres are scoring on a consistent basis at international level.

Which begs the question, all of these players who have been flops in the Premiership now doing good at this tournament- Why did we not bring Heskey?
