Well, major changes seem to be on the way:
Assault Marines are no longer troops, Baal Predators as HS.
Promotion of Tactical Marine and Termies.
A new chapter of Red Marines seems to be coming.

Probably the latter rather than the former.

So variety equals stupidity now? Man, I must be behind the times. Yea, a 4 year old could write better fluff, but as far as a fun dex to play with (barring DS' ing LRs, blood talons and 5th edition points costs) it was among the coolest in recent memory. Agree with that or not, one thing that is undeniable is that they HAD substance and a style of their own. Now that bland is the order of the day; must we really look back at editions past that had flavor and moxy as stupid?

It appears that the new BA codex will bring BA closer to vanilla Marines.
Tacticals and Scouts as troops, AM as FA, and Baal Predators in the congested HS section are clear indicators.

Everything I have seen/read on rumors and such makes me go "eh". I'm not really excited about this release. I'll break it down by force slot.

Army Wide: Haven't read much at all about Red Thirst or Black Rage, except that it seems to just grant Rage. Meh.

HQ: It's starting to look a little crowded. Meph got replaced by Dante as the beat stick. Happy about the change to Dante (axe no longer unwieldy). Read a lot of conflicting rumors his Descent of Angels. Meph and the Blood Angels lost all the awesome psychic powers they had, and they have been replaced with, again, meh. Nothing really stands out to me. A power that causes fear? Really? When was the last time that ever mattered? Sanguinary Priests moving up into HQ makes this slot more crowded, and the SP have been bumped up in points, with a reduction in their FnP bubbles (or lack thereof). Will have to see how these guys compare to say, a Chaplain or Librarian, or even a Captain. Astroboy- my goto HQ choice before the Axe nerf, we'll have to see how he is now. With the changes to DC and Black Rage... he might just be a Chaplain with a Jump Pack now. Dreadnaught Librarian- moved into the HQ slot? Really? Unless he got bumped up to AV13, he'll be a waste of points. You're paying more points for the psyker ability, for powers that are meh. But it brings up an interesting point- it all depends on what powers the BA can take outside of the BA Psychic Powers from the codex. This has an impact on Meph as well. Can you imagine if Meph can get access to invisibility? Moving him to IC status fills me with joy, but a Lord of War choice? Really? I'm really glad Gabriel Seth made it in. He was so underrated, and my favorite HQ choice. Stupid cheap, but pretty good in assaults with line troops. Last but not least, Tycho. Sounds like he is back in his two versions- regular and DC versions. Looking forward to reading his entry!

Elites: Stupid crowded. Sanguinary Guard are still around- and I hope I can take more than 5 of them. A points reduction would be nice too. Furisio Dreads are still running around, and this fills me with joy joy feelings, though this edition of the game is VERY unfriendly towards Dreads. The nerf of Blood Talons was perhaps inevitable, but I'll still miss eating through a horde of Orks, Bugs, and IG. I called mine Brock, after Brock Sampson, the Swedish Murder Machine. Will have to re-evaluate him now. Death Company... hmmm. Sounds like lots of changes to these guys. Will have to read the codex before making any comments on them. I hope Sternguard are still in there, as I loved running Tycho + Sternguard in a drop pod for backfield shenanigans. Everything else... meh. I might actually use Terminators with BA now thanks to the Assault Troops and Death Company changes.
Talk about a crowded force organization slot!

Troops: I welcome some wargear changes. Heavy flamers in a Tactical Squad? Yes please! Graviton guns? Awesome! Loss of Land Raiders as dedicated transports? Sad face. AA missiles? Well, if they cost the same as C:SM, no thanks. I've read BA lost fast Rhinos, and I've read it wasn't changed, but the cost was. I look forward to reading the codex to find out on this one. Scouts are another unit I never really considered taking with my Blood Angels. Might have to revisit that thought if they get some good options (like Graviton maybe?).

Fast Attack: No Stormtalon, which is an awesome flyer for its points. Guess we still have the Bloodraven. I'm hopeful for a points reduction? Probably not. Loss of Fast Vehicles all over the place makes me sad, but I hope BA get a corresponding points cost reduction for losing it. Bikes are bikes, and other armies do them far better. /shrug

Heavy Support: Yeah! No Centurions! I hate those guys. I know they are a thing these days, but so ugly and I just can't help but think their points can be used elsewhere. AA missiles for Dev Squad is great, but as noted above, they will probably be prohibitively expensive. Still have Baal Preds- which are awesome. I hope they kept the scout and fast rules. I've seen conflicting reports on this.

The codex has changed, but it feels more like an update then a radical change the way the 5th Ed codex was. Moving the Assault and DC out of the troops slot seems like GW gutted the assault army, BUT there is this thing called Unbound that doesn't require Force Organization? I can't say if a DC army is viable anymore, but I can always hope.

Not really worrying about the new Codex. It's not a "Game Changer" nor will it shake up the meta. The updates so far will make me want to play them again, though it's 7th Ed, and assault armies are suffering a bit in 7th.

Yeah I don't get why they wanted to crowd certain FOC choices so hard. I hate hate hate that generally in this game the selection you are supposed to take the most of, troops, is by far the smallest. It's insane, and it's bad game design.

The nuking of Sang Priests in all varieties, Mephistons/Sanguinors/Lemarties/Tychos/Corbulo's mega nerfage, and obviously the pointless deleting of RAS from the troop section are the worst offenders. And there isn't any forgeworld work around, it's just an entire play style dead in the water. Why the feth can I take slotless fething techmarines of all fething things and not slotless sanguinary priests? What the feth?

Mega-nerf? I think both Mephiston and Corbulo are way better now.
Bad game design is when a model is only picked to abuse his FNP2+, he gained a lot, he lost his OP-FNP and got a gigantic point reduction for it.
Mephiston is finally an MC, so his Toughness doesn't matter since we have the Majority-rule.

It seems like the worst of both worlds. We lost AM as troops, which was part of what made the army different, but we didn't gain things like land speeder storms for scouts or other perks that C:SM have. Might as well just start playing my BA as Raven Guard.

Point reduction? Corbulo's cost went UP bro.

And Mephiston is now pretty much just a lv3 Libby until a challenge, since we don't have t5 units to stick him in. Granted, he ends up with quickening, s10 melee power, and two other random ones, so not too shabby.

The more leaks I read, the more I hate this POS I've waited 3 years for. Seth is a LoW, yes, but his weapon is AP FETHING 4! On top of that whirlwind of gore if +1A for every 6 rolled to hit. Its like they took everything I loved about playing Wards BAs and said "that's gotta go". feth GW so hard.

They come in packs of 1, and retail for 54.25 each.

Does it need to be my arms or legs or will you accept others?

Also since OT we should probably knock it off.

Maybr not, but it was loads of fun. It had flavor and a dozen ways to play the army. You weren't pigeonholed into playing it as C:SM lite with BA sprinkles. Just becausr it couldn't keep up with the most OP cheddar in the game doesn't mean its a bad dex. It just needed a points reduction. We got the the points reductions and an unwanted jackhammer buggering thst took away all its individuality.

Except the Ward codex was a pile of nonsensical BS that one-up'ed the Vanilla codex outside of an all-biker list, because... "reasons"

And if you think that BA's no longer have anything that makes them 'unique' from the Vanilla codex, then you're simply deluding yourself because they most definitely do offer a number of play styles that the Vanilla book could never hope to have.

A unit wouldn't have to be a power-killer to have an impact on the meta. Just be different or exploit an usual vulnerability. This book, I fear, just continues to feed red marines into the gunline slaughterhouse. In other words, there is nothing this codex has that makes list builders plan for. The usual AP 2 and high rate of fire weapon mixes butcher the BA.

They only butcher the BA if they aren't in vehicles.

In 6th ed a lot of people cut back on their vehicle content and the meta adapted by getting better at killing infantry of all kinds as a result.

Vehicle heavy lists in this environment are going to be surprisingly effective at getting those marines close to the enemy. Drop enough units off at once and there isn't going to be enough firepower to stop them all in that one turn they get to shoot 'em up before the assaults start.
