Didn't add a huge amount of stuff to the pieces, much more will be added in painting as it turns out.

Therefore, painting.

Therefore, testing the airbrush extraction hood.

On the whole, it does the job.
The chosen test filter does not though. The dense paper grease cooker filter, is just too dense for my fans/airflow.
We will have to see how the fans end up without one.
And I'll look into finding a different type of filter.

The only other issue that has arisen is the overspray clinging to grubby marks on the inside of the acrylic. I'll need to look into ways of cleaning this off; acrylic can be polished, so it might just buff off.

I may do some more blocking in of colours (probably grey and brown) on these with the airbrush and then switch to normal brushwork to finish them off.

The wonders of primer, eh? Always brings the bits into a whole.
Thanks.

And now with basecoat:

Not decided what the original colour of the van will have been, but it's probably the first thing on here that'll be painted.
The rest will largely be grey concrete walls, grey rubble and brown wood.
Then some graffiti and posters.

The barricade will be a multitude of colours and materials.
What's left visible of the walls will be more grey concrete.
Wood is wood, sandbags will be sandbags...
Maybe a little graffiti...

I also didn't mention that I got myself a Lazy-Susan base so that I don't have to handle the models around while airbrushing. Sheet of red plastic to minimise it's paint exposure. Just a cheap black plastic one, but works well.

Started with the browns of the wood, mud and sandbags for "Shield".

None of which are finished; the sandbags will become lighter, the wood needs some splashes of black wash and final highlights of white, and the mud will get final highlghts when the rocks receive theirs'.

"Crash" meanwhile started with the van's windscreen, and it also got the browns at the same time.

There's still cracks and shadows to add to the windscreen, this is just the base colour blend and a gloss coat.

Yes, the van is to be green, but will become lighter/paler, may get a stripe and will be heavily weathered in addition to it's dents.

It's a mucky beginning! I think I marginally prefer Shield, but both cool.

Thanks Graven'. Each to their own. I don't have a preference yet, personally; will wait and see how they turn out at the end (I have plans that may swing a few opinions, but only I can see what's in my head).

Progress on "Crash" (I did take a photo of "Shield" but it was blurry and I couldn't be bothered to take another just to show you some mud and rocks, you'll see it when the wood is done).
The van is painted it's base colour; I had planned to go lighter but I liked it at this tone and stopped there.
Wheels are base coated.
Mud is done.
Rocks and rubble done.
Concrete pretty much done, I think.
Wood not finished yet.

Notice that the inside of the walls are slightly purple. This is to show that it was painted once and has since faded. The purple should compliment the green and the brown.
What's left of the internal wall also has a different core colour to differentiate it from the external walls; this can only be seen on the broken edges.

Two "Wow"s, must be doing something right.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, now the long process of picking out each individual piece (and tiding the paint that gets onto their neighbours )

Thanks 'Boss. Much easier to see what's going on now it's not a collection of wild colours. Time to add some colour...

But first... I said I'd share once the wood was done.

Now to decide what's going to be what colour/material...

Thanks Dave. I'm glad you were impressed with my wood.

Slowly making progress.
Blocking in colours for the various parts.
I've now attached the platform.

I have a new phone (and therefore camera) which may take some getting used to; in order to produce the best photos.
So here's a range of photos that hopefully get everything in focus at one point or another...

As you will see, the camouflaged cloth goes a long way to hiding the true nature of the cover.

The bright colours will be dulled by future weathering, and broken up by paint chips etc...

Thanks Cam'. Soon... soon...

Lo Casey. Good to see you pop in. Thanks.

Thanks Graven'.

Mostly all coloured in now (there's a couple of things I've yet to decided what colour they are to be):

Still need to try some more things with the new camera settings... The important bits are in focus anyway.

Once the last things are coloured in it'll be time for graffiti on both pieces, and then weathering...

I've just finished off another build in Fallout 4, so I'll be able to focus on these more now. Pop over to my army's thread to see that.

A thought, can there be more rusting on the exterior wall side? Just to break up the grey a bit more?

Thanks Graven'. Ja, the basic black dry-brush, white shapes, filled in with colour (leaving the white outlines) and white highlights. Cam' did a good tutorial for it.

Thanks Cam' (speak of the devil). I like to leave my pieces open to interpretation, but I see it more the other way around with a "witty" graffiti artist taking the opportunity of an abandoned wall.

Some more work on the van in question:

Didn't realise that the aforementioned Johnny cab has hazard stripes in it's design together with the main light blue colour.
I did try to incorporate the yellow and blue into the sign at first, but ended up with an inverted Ukraine flag, so changed that to solid blue and added hazard stripes elsewhere.

Just a couple more details and then weathering...

Thanks Gits'. The cracks are just many fine white lines. Denser towards the middle of the circle and then a few radiant lines to show the light catching the longer cracks. And a final gloss coat over the lot.

Thanks Graven'. I'm sure the nature of the "white-van man" is universal, even when they are not white vans. They are often hired vehicles and driven like they're stolen.
But I couldn't bring myself to call it JohnnyHire as that brought up unclean thoughts that I suspect are only a UK thing. So I went for Johnny Van, Hire.

Weathering has begun, not complete...
Least complete is "Shield":

Just using up excess paint from the work on "Crash"...

I said it was going to be an old wreck.
Ironically, with the green base colour and the brown of the rust marks it looks more like camouflage than I'd like. But the streaks have helped.

Still much more to do.
