Squig, I believe this is one of the cases where a conversation or topic spans multple threads. I don't even know what they are talking about....but I will find out!
Storag, thanks! The armor is coming out like I planned, and better than I had hoped! I didn't get any more done on that model this weekend...
I did loads of other stuff, but mostly casting and prepping to pour molds when my supply drop shows up hopefully tomorrow!
Also, I ordered some Magic Sculp on the advice of Ishkatar! It should be here today! Yay! I'll post my thoughts on how it works on here.
I have some pics of some painting I got done this weekend, but the USB ports on my computer are not wanting to cooperate. I'll see if I can fix and have them up later today.
Killer Japanese Schoolgirls? I honestly hadn't thought of sculpting anything like that. But they would be cool in some Zombie board games, huh? I'll look into it. Actually, An entire IG type army based on Japanese Schoolgirls would certainly be a head turner, no? And for Ogryn counts-as, I could have Sumo Wrestlers!
And as for the "Scurvey Dogs" pirate heads, I will make more. I would like to have at least 5 different "troop" heads, and 2 or 3 officers. I am also working on some torsos and legs for "futuristic space pirates" to go with them! Sort of futuristic mis-matched clothing and armor, with the officers having long coats. The high-ranking officers would have fancier clothes and coats. Kind of a cross between Pirates of the Carribean and Fall-out. I'm thinking they'll look good with my steampunk rifles too.
And thanks for the great critiques and comments everyone!
The praise keeps me motivated, and the critiques help me improve! Keep them both coming!
RSJake

Thanks Dave! Pretty awesome Pic! I need to get some pics like that with my Younglings. The little one would probably draw blood like that if we let her. Just sprouted her first tooth last week. Sharper than cat's claws! Sheesh!
Got the pics downloaded!
Fist, I have some pics of a possible set-up for boiler tanks on the Walker.
I kind of like it, what do you all think?
Back:
Side:
Other than that I did some painting of the Skull Heads, and Weapons.
Weapons:
Shown with Cadian body for scale purposes only:
Spiked Skull Helmet:
Bare Skull Helmet:
Captain's Head, painted Black:
And Brown:
Also, while I was painting, I drew the attention of my oldest daughter away from Dora the Explora for about 30 minutes, and she painted the following minis:
Golden Space Marine Sergeant: (I had painted the mini red previously)
And a Genestealer (Anunearthlychild! Here is a new color scheme for you! ) :
All in all not bad for a 3 year old I think. At least she kept most of the paint on the minis and not the table.
Thanks for looking,

I only had the 2 minis for her to paint. She wanted to paint more. I need to get some more minis base coated to let her experiment. I guess I could let her paint some Berzerkers. At least they'd get some paint on them!
On the boiler, I am going to try to make it so there are several engines to choose from, and they could be switched out. I'll have to start adding pipes and guages.
On the weapon sprues...I have no idea when those will be ready, but I have some extras to throw in for those that have requested sprues.

cool! does that mean i should try to get my four year old son into painting too? i mean girls are always quicker on the uptake as boys...hmmm? but the nid really is looking like that could be a scheme worth working on!^^
the symetric look on the smokestacks is always better in my view! looks promising...
and mate! lovley work on the guns... i will love to get my hands on these soon (hopefully!
and the bareheaded skull looks by far the best... you should use this to create an evil looking rivetto! your really should!

Thanks Vik! I missed you yesterday!
Yes, you should get your son to painting! Just make sure it's something you don't mind if it falls to the floor....repeatedly.
I gave my girl a brush that I don't need, in fact I use it to mix my paints, so it has already seen much abuse. Much more now.
I actually sat the bareheaded skull on a Chaos Marine this morning just to see what it looked like. It is much too small to look like a helmet, but it could look pretty good as a cybernetic skull! I'd have to add many more wires and such, but it could work quite well for Skull Champions for my Berzerkers! It's kind of got that "Crazed Terminator" look that only cyborgs can pull off!
I'll take a pic of it tonight, and see what you guys think.
Not much to update with. I am expecting a supply drop tonight, and I will definately take some pics of that!
I am very close to having clear resin bottles! And some tinted clear bottles too! I have the clear resin, but I can't finish the mold until the afore mentioned supply drop. And I will be getting the sampler pack of resin dyes too!
I still have to figure out if I can drill out the bottoms of the bottles and fill them with other tinted resin to give them a "filled" look....I hope that works out, it would be cool.
Anyway, sorry no pics.
Thanks for visiting,
RSJake

Depending on how much effort you wanted to put into it, you could drill them out, paint in a wash of thin color, then pour clear resin into the drill hole to seal off the bottom. Alternately, you could just cast them as hollow shells, though I would worry they would be prone to bubbles since they would be so thin.
Ooh, or make a cast of the insides (like the bottle but smaller in all dimensions and lacking the neck. Cast that in colored clear resin, then insert that into a larger mold and pour the bottle around it in clear. Then charge 5$ per bottle.

I think I'll try the drilling method first!
But yes, the filled bottles will be more expensive. I would just do them all "filled", but you need empties laying around too right?
I thought of doing the paint wash. But it wouldn't have that "liquid" look of cola or beer.

Casting tip of the day: Clear pu resin is aliphatic and needs a platinum/addition cure silicone or you end up with tacky/sticky casts.
Explains a couple of issues I have been having.

My one-time experiment with clear resin casting ended up sticky for about a week, and then it normalized.

thanks for the nice words mate!
about the skullheads...i am looking forward to some interesting pics soon...tho i must say i couldnßt think up a way how someone would be able to replace a head for cybernetic needs... a limb is a limb... you can live a useful life without one or replaced my tech...but...well... i feel rather attached to my head^^ ...
and yep... no too akwayrd minis...but lets have them sexy nevertheless...after all why not 30 something hot milf´s in schoolgirl uniforms??? c´mon guys...who wants perky bewbs when we can have fully grown ones?
on the issue with the bottles...one minor thought has crossed my mind...that idea with the clear resin sounds good and all but on a mini, on a table...i for one have always an issue with non-painted stuff... everthing that is from the real world looks fishy together with painted up minis and terrain... out of place slightly...am i making myself understandable here? the resin bottles...well they would look like dollhouse stuff...(which is not a bad thing...mind you...) and they would look convincing in the real world too... but on a table they would look slightly out of tune...lights and colors in a different scheme...? anybody still with me here?...if not...not a big deal tho^^

Cheers Vik!
I'll address the bottles first. Clear or tinted bottles in my mind would be about the same as people using real LED lights on their vehicles. And that is happening everywhere! But for you, I can cast the bottles in regular old resin too.
As for the Schoolgirls, there are College girls too, still with the perkiness, and of age, so no dirty thoughts! I think I will work on that concept. Maybe an older School Leader, with a ruler in hand and a stern look on her face.
And the metal replacement skulls. Well, NORMAL people might freak out about replacing their skull with adamantium, but you so soon forget about the depravaties of Chaos! And personally, chaos is never far from my mind. And it wouldn't be the whole head, just the bone part. And maybe replace the eyes with cybernetic ones too. (If I could do this, and be assured I would survive, I would so do it!)
I'll post a pic, and see what you think.
I have received confimation that the supply drop has in fact arrived, so I am super excited to get home now! Stupid clock is going so slow!
