I think it's a cool idea... but yeah, let's not get into the "awkward" area of stuff like that. I'm thinking girls with pigtails and plaid skirts with Uzis and katanas!

Yea, I agree, make sure they don't have panties.

M.I.L.F. would be an awesome designation if you make vaguely female themed dreads. How you would theme like that, I can't even imagine, but still. Maybe partially open suits with female drivers?

OK, the Schoolgirls went from an IG type army to Space Marines count-as? Well, I could make some Sentinel looking walkers with the pilots strapped in Dreadknight-style, that would be cool.

Yeah, I am diggin this idea!

Thanks for dropping by DiabolicAl...can I call you you Al? You can call me Betty. Seriously though. Thanks.

I looked for Eschers. It kind of looks like if I do the Japanese Schoolgirl thing, they could be converted fairly easily to Eshers. I think it would be funny too to see a petite schoolgirl carrying a heavy weapon!

And now for something completely different:

Supply Drop!

Not a whole lot of stuff, but stuff I've been waiting on to get things rolling again. Now I just need some super glue.

And you may notice I only got the sample bottles of resin and Mold Rubber. I am still testing different brands and products, so I don't want to commit to a huge supply and find I don't like it. Plus the gallon kits are SPENDY!

The Magic Sculp is awesome! I've only played with it a bit, but I can already tell I won't be without this stuff again! It's not going to completely replace GS, but it will take over the majority of the work! I don't yet know how well this stuff will hold very fine detail, but we'll see.

Also, for Vik, a scale shot of the Bare Skull Head on a Chaos Marine. It's the only one I had available without a head at the moment.

I could imagine Iron Warriors would replace thier skulls with metal skulls. I may have to work on something like that in the future.

Anyway, not much else to update on, I did finish the bottle mold, and it is ready for a test pour...however, I tried to open the clear resin container last night, and the lid is stuck....I need to find a pipe wrench or something to open it.

But I will more than likely do regular resin for the test pour anyway. I might have to actually go and buy clear resin if I can't get the darn thing open.

Thanks for stopping by,

RSJake

oh...stuck lids... goes in to the same folder as stuck drawers and ripped bootlaces...i hope you can solve this without too much loss... maybe drill the can?

that suply drop looks very promising... with that amount it is most likley that you can start big new things soon^^

the dye chart looks as if you are in for some sweet fun... maybe you can do something for your wife to ease some more suply drops every wife loves selfmade stuff from their hubbies now and then^^

the head looks quite good on the CSM ...not hellmeted but as you stated an artificial head it could "impersonate" quite convincingly... and by the way... love the pose of the mini... screams somehow great shakespearean big leader to me^^

Yeah, the stuck lid is irritating, but it's not mine, so I don't want to puncture the can. I'll try with the big wrench, but I think it might be a gonner.

I have already ordered my own, I didn't want to use too much of this one anyway, since I was borrowing it.

The Chaos Marine is just this guy:

But I am switching out weapons, and I will do some minor conversions. Not really a whole lot to do though, it's a nice looking model.

I have been thinking of making some necklaces and other jewelry...I'll get on that. The wife loves gaudy jewelry!

try a light solvent like wd40. that might allow you to open the can.

hey galron...long time no read!

at jake... currently your mini looks better than the indendedversion^^ also i would suggest making the still missing arm more like hanging or too resting on the knee... to make it look more relaxed menacing^^

and yeah... some sweet resin pearls with a lil droplet of color inside... i bet that the missus will love these...by the way... would resin be a good choice for being in direct contact with the skin for a longer time?

The mini is pretty thick metal, and would require a lot of re-working and sculpting. I'm saving most of my sculpting work for my creations. But you never know.

As for resin against the skin, I don't see any reason that there would be problem. They make jewelry out of this stuff all the time. I also want to make some 40k themed pendants, and some Celtic knots and stuff, it should be fun.

Oh, and @ Galorn, I'll give that a shot! Thanks!

For stuck resin, use a wrench, then a knife/file to clean the dried stuff out of the threads. Don't use any liquids that might get into your resin and make it act funky. Which is pretty much all of them. Then always keep a little toilet paper around for cleaning the threads before you close it up after pouring. I learned that the hard way after stripping the tops of my bottles smooth

Well, for the resin against skin, if the outer layer is going to be clear, I will be polishing it before anyone wears it, and if there is an issue, I can always spray it with clear coat, but I don't think it will be an issue, but to be safe, I will spend some time on Jewelry making blogs, and see if the question has come up before.

Thanks Wehrkind, I'll try that first. Actually since I ordered some new stuff, I might not even try it. Who knows. I might use it on jewelry instead of the stuff I bought!

With the supply drop the other day, as I have said, I got some of the Magic Sculp (MS) that has been recommended by Ishkatar and Storag. I really like this stuff! I still haven't tried to sculpt a face with it, so very fine detail is still up in the air, but I'll try it soon. However, seeing Ishkatar's sculpted head, I am not too worried.

Anyway, I worked on a project that I really hadn't planned. All I had at first was a wire armature, with some ProCreate (GS) attached to it for bulk (I had also sculpted an armored chest plate but that's about it). So I slapped some of the MS on it when I got it, and started working with it. It is different from GS, Green or Gray, and is kind of like a mix between GS and Apoxie Sculpt. If you add water to it, it becomes very thin and well, watery, which is good in some instances, but when you are trying to get a certain part to do what you want, it makes it more difficult, so I will have to go easy on the water in the future. However, MS has a MUCH longer practical working time than GS. With GS, it says you have 2 to 3 hours of work time, but in reality, you have about 20 minutes before it just won't do what you want anymore, but another 2 hours where if you touch it at all, you will leave fingerprints that you can't smooth out. With MS, you really do have easily 2 hours of working time. And even at 2 hours, if you see something that wasn't really smoothed properly, you just get some water on your sculpting tool, and you can smooth it out. Very nice property there!

Anyway, enough with the review, I worked on a Body/legs for a Pirate Captain! Still some work to do, lots of details to add, but I wanted to get the basics done to show you all.

And yes, that is going to be a peg leg! I almost had the foot done, but it fell off. I ran out of super glue, so I used some MS to attach it. The next morning, I thought, why did I re-attach a broken leg to a pirate? He can have a peg leg! Well, the MS held so well, and was so strong, I had to use a hobby knife to cut off above the join! So, after sculpting the folds of the leather on the other boot, all I had time for was to get a wire in the leg to support the MS while I sculpt it tonight hopefully. The fold of the coat on the back are pretty cool too, but the model won't stand up on it's own with the peg leg, and the back is covered with the sticky tack. Back pics later.

I still need arms too, but one step at a time.

Also, I have been asked to sculpt Space Wolf icons for use with a Rhino. This is what I have so far. It looks kind of funny with teeth and patches of fur and an ear missing, but I think it's coming out quite well.

I might start over, as instead of looking like he's snarling, it looks like he has his head sticking out the window... We'll see how it turns out.

Thanks for stopping by!

This Pirate coming along nicely, so is the Wolf head

As for Magic Sculp... I use water only for smoothing the surface. In most other cases I use good ol' Vaselinum - it takes a time to figure out how to work with the stuff, but at the end of the day it works perfect! Well, at least for me.

Thanks Ish! I am thinking of a rapier and one of my steampunk laser pistols for the pirate captain. I'll see how that looks when I get to that stage.

I have been dipping my fingers in water when mixing the MS because it was sticking to my fingers...you use Vaseline? I will have to try that. Yes, the more I work with this stuff the more I like it.

Oi! I paint my Tyranid bases with green rims!

On the topic, you simply must give one of the schoolgirls a pencil. And a bento box. And one of them stepping on the corpse of a shocked Chaos Lord for maximum irony.

And please, no MILFs. That would just be silly. Although, a special rule where if a schoolgirl unit is defeated in combat, they "call their mums"...

Yep, I use Vaseline. But a very tiny little bit just to slightly lubricate the tools and fingers. In some cases I don't even use it at all, e.g. when I shape the smallest details with the needle.
Mixed mass is pretty sticky for the first 10-15 minutes, but the process of mixing is the most disturbing for me, because the white part is extremely gooey. Storing the stuff in the cool place helps a bit.

Squig - How about I call the schoolgirls: "Troops and Assassins"....And, you guessed it....the Acronym would be: T&A!

"T&A squad 5, standing by!"

Ishkatar, thanks for the tips! I thought GS was sticky when you first mix it, but MS is much more so! But it's a good thing! If it doesn't stick to what you are working on, it makes it much more difficult to make a mold if bits are falling off!

And a cool place, like a drawer, or the Fridge?

Thanks Dave!

It's no Locomotive Walker, but things are coming along!

I'm thinking of giving one of the pirates a hook hand. But I don't think it would count as a power weapon, so I would have to have a pistol holstered or something....I'll work on it.

Well, I've noticed, that it's much easier to mix the stuff without white part sticking all over my fingers right after I take it out of my locker. Being warmed under the lamps on the workbench and from my hands, it gets more gooey and quite annoying to work with.
I don't think Fridge is a good idea, though worth trying

Ish - I just keep mine on my desk, but I use those darn curly light bulbs, but they don't throw off much heat. I haven't had a problem yet with stickiness, but I'll watch out for it.

RW - Thanks! See below!

Vik - Thanks, yeah the wolf looks more like he's going for a ride than getting ready to attack....I'll see if I can make him look more ferocious! I was going to try to stick the head on a Rhino, I might try to make a wolf out of him! We'll see.

Bottles! They came out of the mold nicely! Not easily, but nicely....Oh well. Anyway, I am ready to try the clear now!

Also, I got the peg leg and one arm done on the Pirate body. I did something naughty....I didn't use any kind of armature or anything! I wanted to see what this Magic Sculp stuff would do. It worked pretty well! It had a lot of give in it while I was sculpting, but that was expected with no armature....but it came out exactly like I wanted it to! It even stayed where I left it before it was fully cured....I think GS would have sagged.

I need to clean up the pants, but they are supposed to be "poofy", and I think they are coming along well. The coat kind of make him look chunky, but I can just say there are armor plates on the inside of the coat, that's why it's so thick!

I also think I'll have different hand options for this guy...one of the hands will be that hook I mentioned yesterday! I think that will look cool!

That's it for now...the Heresy Investigator is getting arms, but nothing to show yet. I have been getting the arms attached to the body for sculpting, but trying to make it so thay can come off easily when I'm done. I'm using the MS to attach the shoulder to the body. I hope it doesn't stick too well.

Thanks for stopping by,

RSJake
