Subject: Shrine of Aquila and the Adventures of My City of Death NOW WITH 100% MORE TANKS
So my new year's resolution is to have a fully painted army by may! I've spent so much money and have way to many unpainted models! Time to get motivated! Any of you guys in my boat?
Happy New Year to all and may all your resolutions see completion!
Yeah, I'm starting the year off to a bang already over on my Necro thread, having fun with it, and making good use of a few days off work to paint and model. Thank the Emperor that the holidays are now over.

That B&W photo reminded me of aerial photos I've seen of London or some other bombed out city. Very stark and sobering look to it.
You are the standard I strive for when it comes to terrain. My only limitations are impatience and distrac... hey, I wonder what I could do with this miniature!

Well your words are very kind! I have hit a creative block and needed some inspiration. Your terrain is helping fill that void! For that I thank you! My current projects range from 50% done to 90%, I can't seem to finish the capital building.:(.
I want to run some railroad tracks throughout the board so that is probably my next project. If you keep wanted to see more I'll keep posting!
Anyone else have any input? So far I've heard to sparse and not enough dead things! Your feedback keeps me motivated!
Finally looking at this thread on a computer rather than my phone
Have to say I love the church building - only suggestion I would make there is to make a second half and extend it backwards? It is very tall for the footprint it has (something that has only really come to light with an overall on-the-table shot of it :(
As I am sure you remember - I am big on the rail system, especially if it is a sky track
The only other suggestion I can make in terms of getting a more city look is some wall segments - 1-2 stories, a base a couple of inches wide and about 10-15 inches long with plenty of rubble against the walls to block LOS - enough to give the impression of collapsed buildings, but easy to store, and lots of options on the table in terms of placement.
Thanks Nate! Those are awesome links, great inspiration! I think one cod kit could make some great pieces. I could probably get 3 or 4 out of it. Sadly no sky rail only regular tracks, but a check point/ junction may be cool! Ironically I am doing all my posting on a cell phone!

I have really enjoyed looking at this thread - your ideas are excellent and the finished products look very good. Also, I like how you've detailed using things like water effects and 'adhesive weathering' or whatever you called it - very helpful stuff!
I've actually picked up a pack of the powders with the intention of applying it to my BFG Orks - would your advice be to use it sparingly?
SO you asked for feedback:
1) The city photos are excellent, so no worries there.
2) I second the suggestion of barricades.
3) Maybe smaller pieces to make these larger set pieces merge together - craters with twisted wreckage around edges. Burned out vehicles and sections of tumbled down masonry would all be cool. Shouldn't take too long to do either (making them a more attractive proposal to you maybe?).

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!
How are you painting it, and do you have any tips. I never paint terrain as I have no clue how to paint them so that they look really good. Mine end up looking either chalky or just plain.

I was doing a quasi tutorial on my last terrain project, which stalled because of my lack of inspiration and motivation. What I will do is restart the tutorial and include painting and basing. I am sure once you see my techniques you'll see how easy it is to do. Until then my biggest suggestions are multiple layers of dry brushing and only focus the majority of your time on a few details! Pick a few like one or two and use these as the focal point for the piece. I hope that helps and thanks for the comment and support!
To the rest of you guys thanks very much for the awesome comments and support. I know it sounds stupid but your feedback and comments really help motivated me. Soo to say thanks I will be doing another terrain give away! Stay tuned for details and as long as shipping is under 10$ international shipping is included!
Keep the comments coming!

By the way, we expect some more painted Guard
Didn't see this comment!
Thank you for your suggestions and as far as weathering powders go less is more. What I mean is you can always add more but too much and you'll be repainting the section. Most will seal with rubbing alcohol so keep in mind it may run!
And lastly yes more IG will be making their way to the thread!
Thanks again!

It is tempting to do heavy drybrushes on CoD panels and such, because they are festooned with soo much detail and skulls. That is usually when I get chalky results. I think the secret is in very, very, very dry and very very very gentle drybrushing with a soft, yet firm brush in a criss-cross pattern. Color selection is pretty important too.

I agree with adding a railroad! Are you thinking actual model railroad? Or just building something! I think having a working HO scale train running through would be sweet! And with your talent, I bet an elevated wouldn't be too hard! I know you said no, but just a suggestion.
HO scale would be too small- need to have at least O gage track.

No, G is Huge (Garden scale), O is Lionel Train size (about 1:43) our 28mm Heroic scale is roughly 1:50.
