Welding bro is not blasphemy, we must know our enemy , it's practicing the dark arts that is looked poorly upon.

Hey Vik has been around, he has uploaded images to his gallery:
Spoiler:
Even a stone tower can have rivets, none of this welding nonsense
If he has been too busy to post about his latest project, well we can let him know how awesome it is anyway!
Vik that brick work (pressed in) and the stone work around the tower is awesome, when you have time, I'd love to hear how you made such clean straight lines.
Also nice work on the square edges. Plus the whole piece in general is just perty . Though I don't know how he's going to put tank tracks on it .

Yeah, nice tower, you seem to indeed have set "brick" on "brick", did you?
also nice champion of Khorne your seedling has crayoned. Coupla years and he'll do cover artwork for "Greed Worship" for sure.
noodles!!! I wasn´t yet too confident to show you all!
well... you caught me^^...
of course it has rivets...no welding...never...ever...
the tower is kind of an inspired follow on work after I have worked and finished the walls...for the current leagues comp...
unpainted pics of the walls... with rivtes... of course I will present to you later on...
I am currently in the middle of painting the walls and the tower... the verdigris effect tho is giving me a hard time...for unknown reasons I can´t get a good hue ...
and since we are all so cosy around the bar...I want to build some guards... standing like earlier on suggested as true beafeaters at attention... has anyone ever tried to do this? I would love to use cadian bits and suchlike as I have some spare legs and torsos for this job... but before I use the saw in a terminal way I would love to see how someone else has mastered that feat...
and thanks for your constant confidence in me and my work...mates... I hope to crawl out of this slightly dark valley soon...to fully rejoin these pages here for real...!
cheers, vik
and the pics won´t be that far away...promise!
(p.s. the tower is made from a present of cam...he sent me recently a cardboard tube of huge dimension... I used the whole tube for this build... an old lamp piece for the roof... and lots of foam cut up as stones....for the towerwalls, the buttresses and other parts got the knife and pen treatment to create the bricks...and lots of PVA... each stone on the tower was glued into place...if you mastered riveting once... glueing stones is just a mere side- obstacle^^)
And the master calls to us from beyond the far reaches of mist and time and shows us the error of our ways with this massive er.... tower.
Can't believe you Ninja'd me.
Verdigre... sponge on striking scorpion green then skink blue, add a very light sponge of copper over the top witha few washes is my method, but Noodle is a master at this.
Also Noodle could be your man for the Beefeaters, You probably want to look at some Fantasy Imperial models, Noodles Genswick troops are not a million miles from being close to it if painted gawdy red and gold.

That is impressive scale and detail you have become a real dab hand at this since you have been lurking behind the scenes, I like the ground section with the supports running up the sides that was an interesting design choice and looks marvelous
The lamp shade trick was a clever idea what is it made of by the way as it looks like grey plastic, most shades I have seen are really thin white placky type stuff but that looks way more sturdy
I was impressed by the walls you did and now even more so great stuff Vik and you were scared to show this
Great tower. The stairs are really cool. Of course we want better photos too. My first impression was that you had used a Pringles can (Pringles Potato Chips... or crisps(?) on your side of the Atlantic.) They make perfect tower bases too. Plus, potato chippy goodness. Mmmmm, all win.
The roof has a certain Christmas tree look to it. Perfect for this time of year

The Vik has been lured out of hiding , let's hope he didn't see his shadow of he'll crawl back into his lair and not come out again for weeks. although if he does he'll bring marvelous designs such as this christmas tree topped tower.

It needs lights... Or a star or an angel on top. Oooh, a windvane would be perfect, come to think of it,
How would something like that look atop the tower?
I knew you were around If you are going to leave pics around for a week someone is going to find them sooner or later
looking forward to more of the walls.
My verdigris isn't that great, best tip I can give is lots of thin washes. Mix a bit of green, blue and white, in differing amounts then apply as a streaky wash showing the direction water would take flowing down with the occasional black or brown wash mostly for shadowing and grime.
I found a site with pictures of weathering bronze or copper at each stage, one week, month, year etc. I don't remember where it was but I found it pretty useful.
For guards, the old IG tank upgrade sprue had a pair of standing legs and an arm with it's hand in the air, that should be easily convertible to make it holding a lasgun to attention.
Good use of bits! I honestly couldn't tell what that roof was made from.
well mates... I am still able to use handles... even tho someone suggested replacing my fingers with knifes...
and the shadow didn´t scare me that much... also... no long shadows currently due to the low sun and the less appearance of said stellar entity...
at red harvest... oh... what a very good idea... I need to see if that is still possible... it would be a very convincing addition regarding towards the intended use of the tower...
the letters might be a tad tricky to get them right on that scale....hmmm....
at noodles...
My verdigris isn't that great
yeah right... your probably the best painter here to do verdigris effects in my humble opinion...
as for the guards... I have begun to sieve my bitz box already... I currently follow two roads... ordered my a sprue of necrons my the way so that if all else fails me I will make aitomatons for guards... but the tank commander guard is a very good start...
in the end I want to make cadian standard guards tho as I have in my mind already dioramas planned with lots of soldiers standing at attention... also marching after one another too...
at graven... a broken bell?... it is no bell tower...mind you...^^ it will be for an upcoming airship...ups... now it is out^^
at LDD... the lamp piece is actually metall...IKEA lamp like this...:
you see the piece in black that holds the bigger shade...
sooooo.... promised some wip paining pics...
first the walls... as this is the main event...
this is the setup I mostly think about... but as the pieces are fully modular setups like the following are also able to be used in game...:
and some individual shots of the walls...
and here comes the first wip painting pics of the tower...
with additional pics for details...
...
well... I have again my difficulties with the scheme for the bases... this was in all the recent comp entries my weakness...
the bricks will get a more individual colouring later on... to make it more convincing looking... I also want to add a bit of pant life to the walls... (following Dr. H´s continuous hints which I too often continuously didn´t follow...I hope this time will help me to actually achieve a spot on the first three places...)
for the guards I will hopefully get during this week to be able to present to you some wip pics...
cheers, vik (who is very glad that you are all there and still enjoying the show even if the episodes happen in a rather random style time wise )
did you see the long card tube in the tower cam?... the instant I opened my package back then I knew it would either end as a tower or a new airship...
the tower now it very sturdy due to said tube... so...again...thank you matey!
also... as a sidenote... the way I did these stones on the tower I don´t recommend... I should have done them in the same size as I did all the other bricks... that will kick myself in the rear every time I will lay eyes on the tower....... tried to change it before painting... but it wouldn´t look right...learn from me^^...
I see the part you are referring to in the pic hope you did not break the lamp for that reason
Nice paint job could do with a little weathering especially being that tall, what are you doing with the window frames by the way ? over great stuff and just love the wall sections multitude of set ups possible
Bases really are not a necessity, Vik. At least not permanently attached bases. Try constructing buildings as you would vehicles, without bases. Now, a bit of ivy climbing the brickwork on both the walls and the tower... You can used yarn that has been thinly coated in PVA glue and dipped in flock for vines too.
Walls looks nice. Loving the tower. For letters, perhaps slice off the raised lettering from a pill bottle top or other source? ( I could post a pic or two of what I mean if needed.)
Good work on the tower, Vik. The brickwork is nice and the roof is a great use of the part.
Yeah, have a think about how dirt, rubbish and plant-life will accumulate about the base of the tower.
At least I can keep going on about it this time and not have to wait until the judging.

I think I will leave this here for every ones personal amusment...:
of course there will be soon lots of GS used on that guarding guardsman...
question tho... if I would have two guarding guardsmen flanking the portal of the tower or a gate... would the lasguns be on opposite shoulders or be on the same shoulder , what does the military code say to this guarding problem?... this needs to be answered and I need to have this answered by the knowing friends of mine maybe how done service and so on!... thanks in advance...

the lamp died a natural death... unfortunately... so it needed to be replaced...spending money on lamps is not as funny as spending it on plastic crack... weathering will happen!

well... I agree , bases are not a needed detail... but the construction wouldn´t stand upright otherwise...so... but I was thinking about some vines and stuff...I have some stuff that yerns to be used^^...

it is a blessing to have you here for once to be able to be of assistance in the process^^... by the way... your feedback I have still with me...it is a source of guidance for my current project!
if this works out... I want to make more of these... maybe I find a way to use the dark arts even to have my own supply for a whole platoon standing at attention... next step would be marching legs...ach... a man needs to be able to dream...
