Been lurking this thred for what seems like 2 years now. I just wanted to say ive been painting a long long time and i wish i could come close to your abilities.good to see your painting again.

attempt two for the green base... I think it's an improvement, but I'm not entirely sure!
I took a shot of it, and then looked at it and though t it looked awful - pasty and clunky, and then I took another couple of shots of it, and it looked hideously bright, and then okay... so I don't know what to think any more!

I think it could do with a bit more of a highlight, and then a glaze of either green or yellow.

i think that is very just right to me.

I think it's just a matter of the exposure of your camera rather than the way you painted it. Looks like you blended it up through white rather than yellow? In any case, I think it looks quite good. Certainly pops nicely.

I kind of did both, white and yellow. I went over the previous version with Dark Angels to darken it up, and then smoothed it out with a wash of Thrakka. Then straight up to a highlight with Moot Green, and then I did a highlight with the fluorescent green pigment made up with yellow wash, then a highlight of pure fluorescent and then a highlight of the pure fluoro mixed with a little bit of Ceramite.

I think it's very well done. How does it look in comparison with your other bases? Does it look "right" when mixed in with them?

Fin, that's got it mate! looks great, when i look at it I get a feeling of looking through green water with a light source under the water :-) very well done! you should hop off that fence and sit your feet firmly on the it's good side!

speaking of water, I'm undecided about whether to put a coat of water effects over the icons so that it looks like glowing liquid... might be too much, and I don't want them to be too overpowering or distracting.

Nope, no effects Fin, let your brush do all the talking! the water effect changes it too much imo.

all the bases pretty much done - yey! A little bit of tidying up to do on the blue, but other than that they're good to go

So it begins...
Just some blocking out and washes so far today. I've decided to go with a colour scheme that gives a nod to my Craftworld colours, because they're simple, strong, slightly unexpected and I can say that they're either a Corsair band associated with my Craftworld, or the Wych cult is just showing its (temporary) allegiance to the Craftworld.

Normal basecoat of Blazing Orange that will be highlighted up to yellow; a bit darker on the helm. Boltgun on the armour, Codex Grey on the undersuit and then liberal washes of black. I want the undersuit to be black/grey, the armour a nice metallic grey and the yellow to be the contrast. Flail I think I want gold, and the huskdagger can be bone... maybe... A looonnnngggggg way to go yet.

Great job on the green Finnan and good to see the figures getting their colours.

Some work done on the metallic sections of the armour - just highlighting up with boltgun and then with Mithril Silver. Looking quite nice, but I'm a bit suspicious because it came together quite quickly. I'm tempted to give them a thinned-down wash of black, just to knock it back a bit and re-highlight up, just to hammer home the brightness. Not sure yet though.
I need to do a bit more work on the back, but the shot looks darker than it does in the flesh.

I'm going to aim to be a bit more disciplined with myself and my painting and get a little bit done each evening I get home at a reasonable time (Tuesdays and Wednesdays are yoga and pilates, so I get home late)... we'll se how long it lasts.

I'm also SORELY tempted to throw in on the Drake Kickstarter... have I mentioned my weakness for dragons?

Finnan, I've spent the last day going through all this. I happen to think that the Eldar (of any flavor) don't get enough love, so I want to thank you for posting yours. This may be the most beautiful I've seen in years, perhaps ever.
I'm sorry to see that you've been struggling with painter's block (is that a thing?), and delighted to see that you've started again. Those bases are outstanding.

Absolutely beautiful, finnan. I don't know if I've ever actually posted on this thread, but I've had it subscribed and check it whenever there's an update for over a year now. So I thought I'd give my appreciation for the gorgeous work you do on these lovely little minis.

Also loving your blue and orange bases especially. I still think the green base needs more yellow, specifically a very almost lime green yellow. Perhaps a fluorescent?

the green base does worry me a teeny tiny bit, but going up through lime green to yellow just didn't work... and I foolishly didn't order any fluorescent yellow pigment, so I can't go that route : (
I'm basically happy with them, and I don't want them to stand out TOO much and have the attention pulled away from the mini... we'll see though, I may go back and brighten them up somewhat : )
