@Red H: Hi, Red! Great to see you around! Though I never thought I'd see you arguing for dirtying up a model,

@Thanks, Dr!

I managed to fish out a Krieg Medic out of the painting cue, too:

Poor fella was pretty battered up, I had to repair, rebuild or replace several parts, but I think it looks OK (Though the transitions in the backpack vials could certainly be smoother....)

Thanks, Graven!

In truth, I guess I'm a bit disappointed with it overall. I really liked the miniature (in a WH40K kind of way, ) before getting it, but once I started painting it, I could not make it work as I'd thought.

I had to change the colours in the robe and apron, my first choice (white robes and leather brown front piece) did not work out. And the arms tend to get lost (in hindsight, I should have tried to reposition the servo-arms in a more open stance...

Not something to keep worrying much about though.

Cheers!

@Gits: Thank you! A nice ugly couple, I'd say!

Got some hobby time in, started on a second Centaur for the Korps:

Putting some green on the little thing:

Some more tones of green:

And then, the dreaded moment... puling out the masking take... slowly? or in one swift quick snap? Ah...

All well. Just a couple very minor touch ups, and unto the brushwork.

Thanks for stoppping by

You might be taking some time off, but you can never really leave the Guard, Graven...

Just hoping to make you get back, then, I even got a start on the rest of the Quartermaster's retinue (and the man himself!), and the Centaur crew:

Spoiler:

(Nothing to write home about, but the are on the workbench already, and that's something!)

Cheers!

In an unusual turn of events (mostly so for this time of the year), I did find some time to start mistreating, I mean , weathering, the Centaur:

The Centaur looks great! Your mistreatment seems to have gone right. Also the Quartermaster is spectular, of course he needs a proper retinue.

Great stuff and colour choices. The Korps might just be the best miniatures ever released by GW or FW

This blog has made me dig out my own Death Korps again. Dammit!

I've only manged to find 9 advancing infantry and then remembered that I gave the rest to my mate... Double dammit!

Lovely jobs all round dude

Great news! (The bringing them forward again, the giving away, maybe not so much, ) Almost the best thing that can happen to a korpsman, second only to properly dying in the frontline!

Experimenting with weathering powders:

Burnt umber-like powdered pastel chalk, applied with an old brush.

Just the powder above, after spraying the fixer below. As I'd read around, the fixer ate most (if not all) of the effect,

Second try: applied some more powder, and spraycanned a light coat of mat varnish, from afar, as to not blow away the pigment. Better result, but ended up with quite an orange peel effect on the rest of the paint job. Should have at least masked the rest of the thing...

Lessons in the learning.

C&C are welcome, as always

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing the learnings on the weathering powder. I agree it is frustrating when you get the look you want with the dry powder but then can’t figure out how to maintain that look with any sort of fixer application. Keep researching and experimenting. I’ll be watching to see what finally works for you.

Very nice indeed. I like hairspray for dry powder.

@The Riddle of Steel: I finally settled for three rounds of powder and matt varnish, airbrushed this time, at the lowest possible PSI, and covering (crudely, not really masking) the rest of the hull to limit adding varnish on the non-dirtied parts.

@graven: I did not have any hairspray at hand, it got added to the next shopping list for further tests!

@Gits: Thanks, appreciated!

Finished and mounted the crew, calling it done for now:

Agreed with the above, very nice job on the Centaur and crew.

For what it's worth, I actually apply fixing fluid with an old brush and dab it on. I find the capillary action draws the fluid onto the surface and if you're careful it won't ruin the powder application.
However, it's always better to build it up in layers anyway.

New project (a.ka., I may have gotten in way over my head): scratchbuilt Earthshaker gun carriages, early WIPs

Wheels:

Fast forward:

(After I had assembled those the first time, I realized there was no way I could paint the inside of the - white plasticard - tires. I had to tear one of the rims free free to prime them black and reassemble. Funny)

Wheel mounts:

Kinda there:

And a first attempt at the back support legs (I'm sure those have an actual name):

I think those will end up being too small...

Hopefully, a more shapely update coming up next.

C&C are always welcome.

Thanks for stopping by!
