Much better in my opinion! Could you get a photo from above though so we can better see the base against the orange? The only criticism I could venture is that the red blood spray on the base spike is a little distracting.

Casey - decided against the blood splatter as it didn't read too well and looked less than deliberate, but the blade was a bit plain, so I chucked a bit of DEldar branding on there instead. Crappy angles on the shots, but hopefully enough to give you an idea.

The green actually looks quite bright in the shots with your hand.
The orange bits look awesome.

Yeh ace job, fin! I love the new green and the whole piece is epic. I see better now that it's an icon rather than a slash of blood splatter and it looks good.

By itself it makes me question why the runes are different colours but when he is in a squad it'll all come together really nicely. Are you planning to do a custom plinth for the squad?

I've been having vague thoughts about a plinth, but I'm not sure... I seem to remember that for Golden Demon, you had to be able to take the individual models off whatever they were presented on...? Don't know. It'd be fairly easy to whip one up at work using some wood or mdf and the router and then spray it a nice matte black.

You could start with a picture frame. Put a solid back on it and fill the middle how you want, either flat or continue the terrain. Just leave holes for the bases to sit in. This used to be legal for Golden Demon but check it still is. Personally I think it adds a lot to an entry, i'm not sure what it's like now but most of the winners used to have matching display plinths. If you want to do something really cool you could scratch build a tall one like you suggested and leave room to sculpt a big rune into the side.

LAV IT, but I'd definitely go with darker recesses in the armour. Love the colours, blade's lookin' great!

lots of yellow on this one - he's going on one of the purple bases so I want it to be quite contrasty. Still lots to do, but I want this to be very slick and smooth so I'm taking my time. Awkward to get decent shot because of the whip, but you get the idea.

I simply cannot believe how georgeous your blending with oranges and yellow is! they say every painter has a certain 'style' or 'flair' for a certain colour or technique and yours is quite simply the absolute best i've seen with these colours! you are inspirational to say the least Fin!

I always thought I was better at blues - I certainly find working with blues EASY - this takes work!... Not that I've really had an opportunity to show any blues off lately. I guess that's the downside to doing an army that you do get stuck doing certain colours A LOT. I know I could have gone in a different direction with these guys, but I am confident with my yellows and if I want to impress certain judges, I need to produce some good work. Plus I did want them to be an allied unit and not stick out like a sore thumb...
Maybe I can have a crack at some blues when the new Swooping Hawks come out? lol

Corsair Prince - really nice balance of colours. The blue really pops with the orange, and it doesn't overpower it or clash, and the grey ties it together and gives it something to sit on. For quite a complex and busy model, it actually looks quite simple and restrained. Thumbs up!

Irillyth - again, really nice balance with the colours. The orange could stand out too much if it was over done, but I think you nailed it - enough to make it look like a deliberate design choice, but a delicate touch so it doesn't overwhelm. The whites are nice and crisp - and white is hard to do, so well done!

Good luck with the competition - when is it? Let me/us know how you get on! I acknowledge that I may have been your inspiration and starting point, but it looks like you have some pretty darn good ideas and skills yourself!

Thanks everyone well I entered 2 of my entries in yesterday and I have finished the corsair prince (will be entered into the open category). The Finale(or the day everything will be judged) is on next weeks Friday. Still need to paint up a Void Dragon Phoenix, and finish up my wraithlord. I can show some pics of them.
Also sorry for the quality of the pics they aren't in good light and they were taken with my phone

First layer of yellow highlighting done - >phew< That was slightly hard work, but the next set of highlights should come along quicker.

Really pretty, fin. Well worth the effort!

hmmm, not sure about that Urien. The orange actually knocks back a fair bit in the shots - it's pretty strong in the flesh. I could go in with some Wild Rider Red I suppose, but I want this to be yellow, not orange...

Honestly, I'd vote against darker recesses. At the very least wait until the highlights are finished.

Yellows done... I think. I've also put in a judicious red shading in a few places...
