I'm not entirely sure. I thought of it as a cross between slasher horror (I mean, hell, the exploding nurses scene alone...) and giant monster.

Really? I thought Queen's Blade was just a rather average slightly fanservicey girls with swords series. Battle Vixens was a full on softcore pron, complete with large amounts of full frontal nudity, breast fondling, and, umm, spanking.

Unless I'm thinking of a different series.

IIRC that is the first episode of Queen's Blade. That episode was so hilarious.

Well, normally one of the first things heroes face as newbs is slimes. I think if they all looked like Melona though, every lonely guy in the Kingdom would be charging head long into the nearest dungeon.

Haha! And if you always got paired up with scantily clad babes in armor wouldn't you want to join them? It seems like in Queen's Blade that armor is useless no matter how awesome it is. I'm pretty sure during all of her battles Leina loses pieces of her armor every time. Its so bad, but somehow entertaining.

I never understood how they were hitting her armor in the first place. It doesn't cover that much...

Just finished watching 'Rental Magica' anime on Netflix

Thought it was pretty good, some of the episodes didn't really make sense (like the xmas special and the wedding one, leave it at that otherwise spoilers) and general plot seemed a little thin in places, but otherwise it was an entertaining trip all the way through.

Only gripe is that the broadcast order and the actual episode order are almost completely different, so I did find it annoying that every time I finished an episode I had to consult wikipedia to work out which one to watch next.

Currently buring through D-Gray Man.

Is is me or do about 95% of anime seem to flip-flop between being 'serious' and 'comedy' all the time, e.g. the first half of the episode will be deadly serious, then one of the characters will just break into some slapstick/outrageous antic that will completely kill the tension, sometimes it works, sometimes it just ruins the episode completely but it seems to be endemic to the genre...

I just finished watching Claymore (for the second time, I might add), though somehow the anime's seemed really disappointing compared to manga. Still, it wasn't so bad, and it did pass the time well enough. Starting (for the second time as well ) with Haibane Renmei - I'm feeling sentimental now, so, so a soft, introspective, anime series should do me some good

Just finished Canaan last night, it was pretty good, nice girls and guns anime with a really cool synethesia twist. It also got me watching Noir based on some reviews in the comments. on myanimelist.

Also started watching Battle Vixens here and there. I'm still having trouble figuring out who the bloody hell the protagonist is in this magical land untouched by tailors where all clothing is one size fits everyone unless you're a super powered female martial artist... especially if you carry a kwan do.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

Hmm. I just need to confirm whether the gak I had been watching was in fact Battle Vixens. In the series, a bunch of girls are divided into teams, each team wearing a different stupid outfit (a Miko team, a bunny girl team, a schoolgirl team etc...) and they fought each other with such items as spanking sticks and handcuffs. The loser is the one who loses all her clothes. There is also a Rei Ayanami clone in there.

Is this Battle Vixens or some other fanservicey dross?

Also, started watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and it is awesome. The bit with Kamina's dad is so sad though.

The Battle Vixens I'm watching is martial artists male and female divided into seven schools (represented as high schools of course) with each major/named secondary character having inherited the destiny of an ancient warrior/warlord. I am curious as to what you're watching though XD

This thread seems to have gone downhill. This is less about anime and more about ecchi anime now. Started Fairy Tale again after dropping it a while back. I only got a few episodes in but its still good.!

Probably because a lot of ecchi anime was produced in the last year.

Girls Und Panzer episode 6 is going to be watchable soon. Yay! Damn I love that show.

Here's a question: are there any animes that you weren't expecting to be any good, but ended up loving? For me it would be Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which I thought was going to be drivel, but turned out to be really funny, cool and fun.

Girls Und Panzer ep 6 might be my favorite so far. The volleyball team continues to be a surprise hit. Most of the Sanders team is pretty cool too. And the relationship between Miho and her sister continues to surprise.

I have heard it is good, and slightly less mind screwy and disturbing than the original series, but to me part of NGE's brilliance is its sheer bleakness and creepyness.

I only have 6 episodes of Squid Girl left.

Bleach. I didn't like most of it, but the first season before the soul society arc was great.

Ah My Goddess - Looked too cute but... I really like it.

I read the manga for Ah My Goddess, Belldandy's awesome! The anime just popped up on netflix, might have to give it a look.

I just started two new anime. Rideback which is making me reconsider my decision to not purchase a motorcycle awhile back and Burst Angel, which is just what I like from my girls and guns action anime. Little OTT here and there, and the whiny male protagonist needs a can of man, but at least he's not a combatant.

Having seen the original Angel Cop dub when it came out on vhs these many years past, I find this hilarious:

Caution: contains foul language, action violence and I'm not entirely sure, but I could swear there was nudity in this anime.

Well I've just come back from HyperJapan London 2012, which was awesome, and I got myself a Black Rock Shooter figma. Wonderful figure, really high quality and poseable, and it came with a DVD of the Black Rock Shooter OVA.

It was a really stylish, melancholy film, the CG was really well integrated and the two different environments (the lovely Japanese town and the hellish black landscape of the beyond) were really well done. My only gripe is I'm not entirely sure what was actually happening.

Spoiler:
I think what happened is that when Yomi became jealous of Mato and Yuu's friendship, she drifted into the other world and became the Lord Death or whatever she was. Black Rock Shooter is presumably Mato's alter ego, who battles Lord Death to liberate her from her bitterness and return her to the material world, by "killing" Lord Death.

If anyone could explain then please do!

I may seek out the TV series now. BRS is awesome.
