Hmmm, I've been on Dakka since 1998 and on Warseer only for a few months but I have to say that Dakka (Or the people that post on Dakka like Abadabadoobaddon) seems to be overly snotty when it comes to Warseer. I find the threads you mention to be few and far between but while they do arrise, they do have a much bigger membership so you are bound to get some eleventy-one noobs.

I suspect the High noise if from the Higher traffic at these sites.

Dakkadakka is that quite, laid back place that old people go when all the kids are out at their parties.

I like both but its annoying when you get posts complaining about the noise next door.

I check Warseer for rumors only as well (actually, I do occasionally hit the modeling forums, but there isn't much activity there).  The reason I'm not active is that threads there get WAY out of hand, with people posting like mad, and it's just too much to keep up with.  How many 20+ page threads are there?  It's crazy, especially since most of the posts are people's opinions on rumors and not actual information.

I've actually been posting and reading on Warseer a lot more lately. Sure, it's often infuriating, but there's a lot of activity and people generally respond to posts. While the level of tactical acumen is a step below Dakka, I've often found it difficult to tap into that advice pool here. And yeah, while there's a lot of GW fan-boys and a general sense of fear towards people who actually like winning games, there are some good posters beneath that surface. It's similar to how Dakka appears to hate GW on the surface. Once you filter through the loudest noise, there's some good signal on both forums.

When you remove the mpteen "Which army is better" or "whats the best tank" type threads, there is often some readable, if not contributable threads there.

its pretty easy to ignore the noise there, most often by simply not clicking on the stupidly named threads.

News and rumours should be read only though. When a thread reaches 2500+ posts with the only quality being the original post and a couple other rumours hidden somwhere in there, its a maddening thing to try to read.

Since I've switched to Dakka (those 100 page rumor threads got annoying to sift through), I only visit Warseer for the modeling pages as they have some fantastic modelers and painters over there (not to say Dakka doesn't, but the modeling forum here is pretty light in content).

I don't see a reason to go over there for rumors, all the good ones get posted here anyways!

Most people in the rules forum generally don't care what the rules actually say...Just how they 'think' they should be played.

Lately, it's seems to be getting a little better though.

Yeah, I'm having fun in the CSM thread.  They're just too easy to bait over there.

Hellfury's right that there are good threads/posters there...there's just a lot of noise too. But it's interesting how every discussion of unit effectiveness on Warseer follows this pattern:

A: This new unit sucks.

B: No, it's great!  You just have to use tactics.

A: Really?  Well, here's all the tactical reasons it sucks.

B: I play for fun, cheeseball.

Agreed. Like the person who thinks it's okay to put your miniatures on a base that is smaller than the one it came with as long as GW still sells one with that size base, despite the rules clearly saying otherwise.

I'm in the middle of one of those now.

When you realize the fact that Demons can only assault 6" after summoning, which puts them at max 6" from their icon, you realize they have to be within 12" of their target to charge.

And then you realize that either the unit you're going to charge with the new sucktacular Demons is either worse off fighting your delivery unit or is something you'd use demons to tie up, which means it can likely kick the ass of your delivery unit...who has to be within 12" to deliver the demons...

And yet they scream how they're "useful" and it's "unimaginative" to take units that don't suck on the table top. Hence my sig. If I wanted I could have so many "Nuggets of Wisdom from Warseer" in my sig, but I don't think Russ wants to pay for that kind of bandwidth.

I spend time on Warseer, but never outside of the modeling pages. The quality of modeling there is really wonderful, and while Dakka does have the occasional post every day or so - with some really stellar projects at times - Warseer has oodles of timely posts and dedicated project logs that are just all around awesome.

That said I stay away from the other 80% of the WS forums, for the reasons mentioned above

Warseer posters seem to be more typical of the sort of people you find in GW stores; the occasional expert stops by, but mostly its just kids yelling at each other. I guess it picked up a lot of refugees from the old GW official forums.

Life's too short to sift through 200+ replies looking for the one or two interesting ones.

drifting slightly OT:

If the summoning rules are (as rumored) just like Deep Strike but the Icon is like a teleport homer, then you'd only have to place the 'center' Daemon within 6" of the Icon Bearer. With each concentric circle around that original model you make you gain an extra inch of potential charge distance. I'm thinking with units of 8+ models you'd get two concentric rings which would give you a potential charge range of 14" from the Icon.

I find this slightly amusing as you can predict the responses from Dakka the same way.

A: "I like the Dark Angels new codex."
B: "What a fanboi, only fanboi's like DA.  Every other codex is statistically more likely to kick DA's ass."
A: "Have you ever played a game with DA?"
B: "I don't need to play games to prove that I'm right and that DA suck."

p.s. I still love Dakka more than Warseer.

As one of the people who have used the 'just use tactics' line on warseer...I will say it is someitmes well-founded advice...Especially when they do the 'OH NOS!  I can't beat this cheezy <insert unit here>.  It is impossible to beat'.

I agree, I tried psoting on Warseer and B&C and i just wanted to shoot myself. So many people on there dont have a clue about actual tactics or winning games but they act like they are Paton incarnate. Nothing bugs me more than seeing people give horrid advice like its gospel truth.

Dakka is rough around the edges, and not the friendliest board around, but there is no better place for real tactics and advice on winning games. Some of the guys that post here jus thave a great mind for the game. If you can handle someone telling you their honest opinion can conduct yourself like an adult, this is the only place for 40K.
You dont have to be a jerk off if you like to play to win, i just feel that the people here enjoy a competetive game, which compliments my play style and mentality.

Now i just go to B&C to read some of the fulff debates which are actually pretty engaging if you like that side of the game, and Warseer for the rumors and modeling.
