Sounds 'bout right. And once again, the thread has gone off-topic due to my incoherrent and generally meaningless banter.

I worked for GW in retail back in the early 90's. When I started working for them it was great. Friendly, no management sales drives, and other companies products. Then the D&D shelves went away, the visits became regular, and about the time I quit they were trying to suggest that even OOP GW minis were not going to be allowed in store games. Not really an individual worst experience, just sad watching the heart of GW shrink 3 sizes.

Oh, and the highlight of the whole thing was a summer in the Oxford Street store and looking up to realize the next person in line was Robin Williams who was buying WFB stuff.

Really? Would seem to make sense with his involvement in the movie. Williams it turns out is still a gamer geek so it probably wasn't that much of a big deal. More entertaining he only had one other person with him. Probably relies on not getting recognized quick enough.

The worst experience I've had was being blasted by the store manager for asking of there were any tables free to have a three-way game. It was a one-off though, the staff there are very pleasant usually. They're very persuasive, as someone once came into the shop asking for directions for a local comic store, within 10 minutes, he was sitting at a desk painting some Dwarfs. XD

It's the upselling for me. I generally get on with the guys in our local store, but you can't ask a question without them trying to make you spend more money. It kind of undermines their advice.
"Look, the new killa kan box set."
"I've got the metal ones, thanks."
"They look rubbish. Buy the new ones."
Repeat ad infinitum.

One member of staff scared my wife by talking loudly about how giants turned into ents. As if he was quoting history. And laughing in a shrill way.

Odd, the problems I've had are never with the staff at my local store (the manager's worked there since forever, I swear) but some of the people. You know the type, the kind that insist their way of doing things is 100% correct and should not be argued with.

Had one guy try to persuade me that plasma guns are assault weapons, and even went as far as to try to stop me from reading the actual rulebook, saying it was a waste of time as he'd already told me.
You figure that one out.

Worst experience ever was playing a game that on the first turn my armored company (back when they had rules) demolished an Emperor's Children army in the 1st and 2nd turn of the game. I watched a 20-some year old cry in front of me. Never seen anything like it. Reason it was my worst gaming experiencing is because I felt damn awful for making someone cry due to a table top wargame.

Today had what could have been a bad experience. Took my kids to the FLGS. My youngest had spent his allowance on some Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and while we were sitting playing some other games one of the people who came by to see what we were playing decided to lift them. He was really sad as he was so happy he'd found these particular cards for his deck and had no allowance left.

The store made it up to him by letting him dig through one of the extras boxes and replace the cards he'd lost. Great store, but with great stores come the occasional dill weed customer who'd steal from an 8 year old.

EDIT> OK, I didn't type dill weed. I wondered if what I typed would get censored. Got to say I'm impressed that it was replaced by dill weed and not just **** **** or something like other forum oft do.

Hmm, I've already had an example where this 60 year old moaned at me because he didn't get a cover save from a Basilisk barrage, but a prime example I've had was a couple of weeks ago.

I was playing an Apoc game at GW as a way of celebrating the release of Spearhead. Now, I don't know why, but there had been a few major staff switches in the area, so there is only one guy running the shop for the day. As a result, he cannot referee the game as he is busy with selling etc, so he allows one of the players to referee the game. I thought he would allow a fair game, but from turn one, he ruined it. He immediatly broke the rules for the Stompas, allowing it to fire many more weapons than usual.

Anyway, about 30 minutes into the game, this little kid shows up with a small cardboard box containing some Marines. He says he had a Dreadnought, 5 Termies and a Razorback. The referee says to join my team, and to justify this kid joining the team, goes to the stores cabinet and places a new Stompa, a Hellhammer, and a Stormlord onto the battlefield, under his control.

That, and suddenly about 2000 points of Necrons suddenly appear (despite the fact that it was a 1000 point limit per player), strangely by chance, on his team was why I packed up as soon as the game ended. I didn't bother to stay for another game.

I know how you feel when facing opponents such as this. In the old school club I used to attend, there was this kid there who would always play Tyranids, using only a Battleforce, nothing more, and claimed that he was a great player. Now, granted he was a special needs kid, but there are limits on how you should act during a game. By special needs, I mean he had anger management problems. When my Maugan Ra decapitated his Carnifex in CC, he almost blew up with rage. I swore he would have done something horrible to my models if the teacher hadn't calmed him down. He still plays 4th Edition Tyranids.

I eventually got my own back: During a ski trip last Feburary, we were ready to pack up to head back when we plotted to scare the gak out of him. I put my MCR hoodie (which has a slightly disturbing image on it) on and pulled the hood over my eyes and hid in the wardrobe of his room. My mates told him he has left his ski coat in the wardrobe, and he opens it, at which point I jump out onto him screaming!

I received several facial attacks before he fled, leaving us laughing like a bunch of prats.

Valk

P.S: For those who say I had been a bit too harsh on him, he kinda deserved it as he had been an arse to everyone on the trip.

valk that is harsh, if he is special needs then he cant help it so picking on him shows that you are pretty low with low self estime.

Yup. The Mork one. Easily qualifies as the most famous person I ever met. Even if just for as longs as it took to run up some purchases and stick them on a credit card. Was in too much disbelief to actually react and probably would have nerded out and said something stupid if I had.

Recently and very ironically. I was in my local GW store. An old gent walks in grinning manically and asks do we know where he can by a rifle for his grandson. He says he had bought him a pistol already (which he had tired of using). We suggested he went to a toy shop of which there were plenty. This was the day after the cumbria shooting spree. The GW employee didnt get in conversation with him. It was just punter who did in the end.... most odd.
