I'm really not liking my local store:

When you've a blackshirt teaching a player that orc slugga boyz have 1 attack each vs spaze marines is it any wonder everyone collects spaze marines?

By my reckoning 7 orc sluggaboyz @ (2 Attacks basic +1 for CCW+Pistol)=21 attacks..

I wouldn't mind but I was directed to him by another staffer who didn't know the details of advance ordering (which is fair enough they cannot know everything) but then to be ignore while he *mis*'teaches' the rules to 2 10 year olds...

It makes me want to set up a gaming club 16+ only. GW seem to be doing enough about the 12-16 YO market now.

*sigh* I don't see any point in GW stores anymore... the size of the games they push are impossible on 4x4 tables.

You cannot turn up to look at stuff without a sales push. It's a far cry from when it was a wealth of information and friendly advice, I mean we are in recession, who just 'randomy' has £50 burning a hole in their pocket and buys a batallion. One battleforce means you probably need to spend at least another £50 to make it into a legal army.

I'm thinking of writing a letter of complaint as I wasted a half an hour of my life today..

I though most GW stores now had a free computer to use to do your own advance orders?

But I think they are mis teaching the rules was on purpose to simplify it for them and get them to buy their flagship army.

Still sucks though.

I find the wife is either ignored or patronised. When we first got together we were in different universities so she would go shopping on her own and was frequently approached with "are you looking for something for your boyfriend?" or had everything explained to her in insultingly simple terms.

The Portland Area in Oregon has a total of 8 Gamestores within a lapse of about 30miles. Most of them are great store and I have attended all of them for different events and I can tell you each store has a different "philosophy" of how to run their store. Some consider themselves like a drive through window, you come, you buy, you leave. Some consider themselves a gamer haven where you are encouraged more to play than to buy. And some well they don't really know what they want to do really. I never had a particuliar experience at any of these stores that marked me but what I do not like ever, is the nepotism of certain stores with some of their favorite customers which at tournaments get treated like nobility to compared to the guys who show up once in a while. While I understand the concept, I think its just bad for business.

You are SPOILED!!!

That aside, I understand the 'recognition' of regulars, but to place them above other gamers/hobbyists is where the 'Mates' Club' can hurt the hobby, and business itself. Many GW operate this way, in my experience.

It is one thing to remember a Name... heck, even to recognise a kid who visitted 6 months before and remember his army and ask him how it is progressing; but favouritism is a NO.

Oh, trust me. This is insanely untrue. I'm in the process of getting a very attractive female friend of mine into the hobby, and she's expressed an interest in Necrons.

But yes, onto the 'Worst Experience" part hmmm....

Well, the GW I went to back when I was in CA was usually very good. Staff was nice, willing to help, players were more than happy to help a noob get started into the hobby, and give me list building advice and all that...but one day just stands out to me.

I was in on a Saturday, so the store was more packed than it usually is, and I didn't know a lot of the people since I tended to go in on weekdays. (Ahh the joys of summer....) I've just managed to land a 2k friendly pick up game, and was taking my minis out of my bag and putting them on the table, when this guys I have never met before, comes over, looks down at my minis and says: "Dude, did you paint these? It looks like a 5 year old did it!" Now, understand, I'm not the best painter in the world, and my models are all very simple as far as color scheme goes. But, c'mon! Who insults a random persons paintjob? Critique? More than accepted. This? TFG.

It amuses me when I take my daughter with me. I'm mid-30's in a suit (bit too old) she looks about ten (bit too young) but has her arms full of boxes (she likes to carry them to the checkout). You can watch the staffer trying to work out which one of us is the gamer....

They are both real and both like playing games. That makes them gamers.

If you want me to show you a picture of her painting Necrons or w/e I can't do that. She hasn't bought any yet. I just explained the background, and basic rules to her, and she said Necrons are awesome, and will pick some up the next time we hang out.

Spoiler:

A friend of mine and her at our prom. She is also into DnD, cosplay, and general dressing up. She has also convinced me to give DnD a try.

Oh, and Avatar. I do believe syanti has def proven you wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Don't you spend most of the time 4 feet (at a minimum) away from them, across a gaming table of some sort? (Even if they're not playing you, depending on the layout of the store, of course)

Theres one guy who comes buy my local game store sometimes. His stench is so powerful it actually makes my nose burn. Ive asked my tourny organizer if he ever joins a tourny with me to keep him far away from me and never match me up with him.

How old are you? Are you one of these internet hard men that want to give out the impression that they only go out with supermodels?

I have to say that if people can find a nice girl into gaming and dressing up they are worth hanging on to, leave these sad feths who don't know an attractive girl when they see one to spend their nights with a computer.

Oh QFT. So much QFT right here. Seriously, I'm perfectly happy with her as a friend and I'd much rather spend a day with my friend than sitting in front of the computer all day, even if she's not a supermodel. (Until Portal 2 is involved, then it will be temporarily reversed ) But yes.....I'm just surprised she's into Warhammer. When we first met...

Me: I think I scared my English teacher by shouting out "For the Emperor!"
Her: Is that the Warhammer Emperor? I've heard about that...do you play?
Me: Yep. Imperial Guard.
Her: Cool, I thought that thing sounded really neat.
Me: (Mentally) This girl is awesome.

My local GW has been too busy through the summer with all the school kids to really bother people coming in like they used to (think they may have got rid of a lot of the staff and got some new guys in as well). I still only buy paint in there (had to get a load more as I wanted to have some paints to mix especially for my airbrush). Still have to wait a few minutes to get served while the staff extract themselves from whatever games they were running for the hordes of children (or for them to notice you are standing at the til).

My wife still refuses to go in there though.

What has age got to do with this?

Im sorry my standards are above yours. Apparently, you must be hard up for it or desperate enough not to be too choosey?

Also, you may wish to revise your sentence structures, you look like you were confused as to whether you were addressing the general audience or your thread-stalking mate, Chris. Have you noticed in exactly 3 separate threads, you have posted immediately after eachother...? It's touching, really.

Your age is relevant simply because maturity tends to be fairly tied to age. Immaturity and young age tend to be prevalent in those who judge women only on 'hotness' while failing to consider any other feature.

And so what? Whose the stalker if you're the one who's noticed this?

You have to remember that everyone in Australia is a supermodel. It is all the sunshine and surfing. Plus the ugly ones get killed by the drop bears.

But bloody hell - relax guys. Subjective judgement is just that, subjective.

Well you come across as quite immature, if you were 14 there'd be an excuse for it. For you "standards" for a girl are basically if you think they are hot is shallow in the extreme. Regardless the girls in the pictures are attractive, it's sad you think otherwise but if/when you grow up you'll realise that attractive women are not all like those in porn and underwear catalogues.

You forget that attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder, just because you think their attractive doen't mean others will. I'm not shallow but the grls are average looking in my attractiveness meter. no offence intended but it shows difference of what everyone considers 'hot' and not.

As for avatar saying they have to be hot... kind of agree, you'd have to find them attractive or 'hot' or you couldnt go out with them (Meaning if a girl is not what you find attractive or appealing looks and personality wise... no way could or would you go out with her).

I am curious though why the pic of the friend's GF has her in a seethrough white top and black bra over a normal top... is it to hypnotise people to look at her chest? if so i failed as i noticed the plug close behid her feet which is a tripping hazard

basically this talks a bit silly about what is attractive and what isn't

On topic my only 'Bad' experience and even at that its very minor was when i went in to get some Empire flaggies to be part of a Bret bloodbowl team as linesmen peasants to be tol 'oh no thats not good is it' and realised it was the guy saying me making a bloodbowl team was not a good thing and frowned upon. not that exciting sadly.

Duce. Oh, I understand completely there is going to be a big difference in the way that people view a girl as hot or not. I'm not going to share my opinion, as I've contributed more than my fair share of dragging this thread OT. But yes. The difference between you and Avatar is that you are doing this in a mature way, while Avatar was not. I also agree with you on the 'hot' thing I suppose, I don't use hot as a personal rule, but the ideas the same. Avatar just came off as dismissing girls for being 'unsexy' in an immature way.

I'll stop going OT now, and let this awesome thread continue.
