Pre-ordered (regular hardback) of Mark of Faith. Quite surprised it was still up for pre-order when I got home late last night, either they printed more copies or this one isn't as desired as Honourbound was earlier this year.

Also got heads up that my reprints are on their way, good times.

Read about half of the recent novellas, all been enjoyable so far.

The necron one is my current favourite , just works.

Having read Dan's interview in the most recent WD, looking forward to the Sabbat World Crusade. Never bothered with the first version as the photoshopped stuff really wasn't to my tastes.

edit.

Also, for those who collect these, the Siege of Terra site has uploaded the map for the third book, spoilered due to massive size:

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I'm trying really hard not to be interested in it, because I just know it's going to be another low-stock gakshow for that and the map, and I probably won't be able to get either.

Just in time for Christmas. If the map is affordable enough I may have to get that one as well, as I personally really like the art style they've been using for their maps recently.

I don't think the book is limited, or at least, not SoB box limited. They did a coffee table book last year as well, so this may be their Christmas equivalent of Visons of Heresy for 2019. VoH is still available now I think.

The map I think is limited, and will no doubt be on Ebay UK for 3 times the price within minutes of pre-orders going live.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Did they say Liber Chaotica would be limited before it was released? I don't recall that, but I do recall having a couple of online preorders fall through and ending up just managing to get the last, full-price copy at the local GW of all places.

Just because a product is not explicitly marked as a limited release doesn't mean they won't burn through their initial print run and never bother to make another. If you want these background books, you have to buy them day of release and hope GW doesn't short wherever you order from.

If GW burns through the first order and doesn't order a reprint then, yeah that's basically the definition of a limited release. It just means that GW didn't number them or sign them or make them special like that; it just means that the stock was always limited.

It's a shame that BL does so many of those lore and art books as limited releases. I'd have loved the Eldar books they did a year or so back, but unless you've got the money on the pre-order day you've very little chance of getting hold of a copy. Libre Chaotica sold out fast and I only just grabbed a copy despite missing pre-order day.

It's a huge shame because they are often some of the best books; and you really can't get them digitally and get the same experience (heck GW doesn't even meet us half way and do digital versions of them).

Was Liber Chaotica a straight reprint or was it a new version? This is supposed to be a new version, so you'd hope they keep it in print. We've all seen strange decisions from GW though.

The Sabbat source book is meant to be non limited, while the matching map is limited. However I'm expecting the same problem as Liber Chaotica, x number of copies printed and way more than that demand for the book. I suspect the map will be very limited and will sell out very quickly. Book was £40 at the weekender and the map was £35.

From what BL have said before, they have to order the books from China months in advance (like more than six months including shipping), so the quantity they purchase is based on guesswork (or as BL calls it, forecasting). Due to the delay to actually get more copies when it sells out they just don't bother as they assume everybody will have moved onto the next big shiny book.

Does anybody know when the next Primarch book is due? Its been a long time since the last announcement.

It was a reprint, I don’t think there was anything new in it. That said, I’m not sure I get the logic of a new version being more important to keep in print than a reprint, when it came out god knows how many years ago originally and is ridiculously expensive on eBay.

My thinking is if someone has done work recently to add to it, then they may consider that good enough reason to keep it in print, at least for a while. I’d be pissed off if I was working on a book extensively overhauling it just for them to make 5 minutes of pre-orders worth of copies then it’s gone for good. This is of course GW who made 5 minutes of pre-orders worth of SoB boxes after making all new mounds for them.

Thats a nice map but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to buy online... If you want the special stuff, the only way to go is to get to the events.

GW definitely don't care about scalpers. They're making their money, and that's that.

Liber Chaotica sold out in weeks not minutes, but I’m pretty sure this will be 100 times more popular. Getting the map sadly will be a lottery with the filthy scalpers making a killing. GWs fear of carrying any stock, their lack of ability or desire to stop the scalpers and the utterly bonkers policy of selling large numbers of super popular limited editions at events that are attended by people who by and large live in one geographical location is kind of ruining the collecting bit of black library.

How can GW stop the scalpers? If they limit it to one per customer the scalpers just get more addresses and accounts. Furthermore the scalpers use ebay and facebook to sell on their product and GW can't touch them save to issue takedown orders if they use GW marketing photos.

This isn't like the ticket touts where they were buying all the ticket stock in seconds and then selling them on the ticket sellers resale website. GW doesn't benefit any more from the scalpers and might even benefit somewhat less if scalpers are cleaning off some of the hobby money from regular customers.

Stock holding fear might be a bit overblown at GW; however iwth regard to models I also think its linked to GW's production limitations. One factory underpowered by the local power grid; one new factory not yet online.

The main issue is the one-lump orders and then vanishing that's the issue. It would be better if GW were more open to doing re-runs - certainily of BL publications.

They may still be traumatised by their leftover stock issues from decades ago. But doing more runs on books would be nice, the regular hardback print of Honourbound, selling out worldwide on day of release in February and not getting another physical release / restock until August comes to mind.

You can cross check the cards, payment and delivery addresses so that one card, one address equals one purchase. It won't stop the dedicated scalpers but it would stop the majority. Many people have more than one payment method, but they all normally registered to the same payment address, so just limit by payment address.

Anyway, GW don't even care enough to stop the scalpers who buy tens of the same books at events, those guys are the same guys every time. GW like it because it transfers the stock from their risk to the scalpers.

That delay for Honourbound is down the printing and shipping options that BL choose. It is six months roughly from BL order to ready for customer delivery in the warehouse. GW do priority rush stuff now and again, but not for the bulk of their orders. GW would want to charge more if they used a quicker printer and shipping.

How to stop scalpers? Easy enough - make more product after the first run sells out, and commit to doing so loudly and publicly. If they're really terrified of the idea that people have such short attention spans they'd stop caring about the books by the time a second run could be ordered in, do a real, actual, proper pre-order for the second run and get people's money up-front on the understanding it will take a few months to have the books made and shipped out. Or they could finally get a more stable relationship in place with a Print on Demand company and just start offering them through that - the slight premium would still be less than the margin demanded by the scalperscum.

I genuinely don't get why GW can't seem to maintain a partnership with a PoD supplier for more than five minutes. Hell, don't even do fancy versions, just go back to what they used to use years & years ago - "library bound" buckram hardcovers with simple heat-pressed foil lettering, and a dust jacket if they're feeling fancy. Some people even prefer that style, and there's a reason libraries use it - it's cheap without being rubbish.

Scalpers are very difficult to stop I agree, but efforts can be made to frustrate them, as others have pointed out. Solar war series collectors could have pre registered for the series. Committing up front for the series purchases.
As others have stated the carry on at events is like spitting in the face of fans. To put these very limited runs up for sale to a group who just happen to live locally to GW headquarters in advance is just insulting to everyone else.

Their fear of stock is historical and admittedly they got badly stung before with this and I do understand it. Hence more reason to put print runs of limited stock out for pre order to prior to the prints being run. If the can do it for the Bandai Space Marine they can do it for a book.
