Haha, I almost had my swimming shorts stolen by a baboon once on top of a waterfall in the rainforest. Can't remember which country I was in at the time, though it was somewhere in the Far East.
Little begger tried to grab the bag my swimming stuff was in but I managed to keep hold of it and get away with limbs intact

It's really cold. Also, no one should ahve to wake up at the un-Godly hour of five in the morning to walk their dogs in the freezing cold.
Also, it's spring, so wtf weather? What happened to the nice warm temperatures you promisised me?

And to my surprise two kids are playing WHFB on the table in here. Aside from them and me it's empty.

You're alone apart from two other people?
My brain is turning to mush trying to write an essay on science teaching through enquiry that's due this friday.
Argh. Go home and nap, or keep writing?
Need to plan tomorrow's class on algebraic multiplication and get to the bottom of this six month delay in payment the school has managed for me too.
In short, too much.

I'm rather bemused by the new Insane Clown Posse song, entitled "miracles."
So now the blokes whom made their career in a sub-genre of Hip Hop known as horrorcore, are now singing songs about everyday small miracles? It isn't bad I guess, even though there is a lot of needless swearing.

Needless swearing? Not familliar with this concept.

Maybe it is because people around me don't swear a lot. It did seem like that though.
On a side note, the line, " magnets, how do they work? I don't want to talk to a scientist, you lyin' and getting me pissed," is probably the best line I've heard all year!

My brother yelled at me today for listing to, verbatim,
"That bullsh*t, disgusting assault on the ears you call music."
Lolwut? So, Iron Maiden's song about the charge of the light brigade is an assault on the ears? So Iron Maiden, motorHead, Black Sabbath, and all my favorite rock 'n roll bands suck.
I don't why I didn't see it before. Obviously, his crappy music by some skank named Niki Minaj that does nothing but glorifies herself in the most disgusting way possible holds so much more value then mine,
the kind that actually tells a story.
I asked him why he thought it was crap.
He replied:
"Cause it's all just a bunch of loud noises that make no sense when put together."
I then told him the meanings behind the songs, and why my bands don't suck compared to his.
1. The Trooper: Told from the viewpoint of a soldier in the light brigade during the cavalry charge during th war in 1854 against the Russians.
2. Ironman: A man travels forward in time, sees the diaster that is the future, and returns to the past to try and stop it. Nobody listens to him, so he gets revenge, thus causing a time paradox and bringin about his vision.
3. Ace of Spades: Gambling metaphors that tell of a gambler. Pretty self explanatory.
4. You actually have to have some talent to be a lead vocalist for a band, cause AutoTune can't be used on live shows, which is where you make your mark.
5. Eddie the Head, Vic Rattlehead, and Snaggletooth like mascosts are great ways to get people remember your band if only because they look cool.
6. You have to arrange the guitar, the bass, the drums, and the vocal all in a way that is good, because AutoTune sucks.
7. Did i mention that you're music glorifies that stupid bitch in the most disgusting, obscene ways. And that she uses autotune?

Music Snobbery: In the grim darkness of the present day, there can be no peace. No forgiveness. No respite. Just smug self assurance that your taste in music makes you better than other people.
And the laughter of thirsty gods of course. Only they know what's so funny about being thirsty- I mean, generally, it just makes me all cranky.

Hey, I've got nothin' much against snob. I'm a beer snob, and a comic snob, and a TV snob. Everyone's got their things. Music snobbery was especially common in my group of friends in school, so it always makes me grin. It's good to know some things never change.
Still, Iron Maiden are great, and your brother obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

My ex-GF (still very good friends) is always complaining that I don't like any of the music that she introduces me to and says that I "don't like anything that (you didn't discover yourself/isn't important/Isn't outside the mainstream)". I have tried to explain that I don't see any reason to listen to anything that I don't absolutely love, but she does not approve of this explanation. Next time it comes up (because she keeps introducing me to music expecting a different result, which works for me because she may actually find something) I am going to read her this Orwell quotation:
George Orwell wrote:I often have the feeling that even at the best of times
literary criticism is fraudulent, since in the absence of any accepted
standards whatever--any EXTERNAL reference which can give meaning to the
statement that such and such a book is "good" or "bad"--every literary
judgement consists in trumping up a set of rules to justify an
instinctive preference. One's real reaction to a book, when one has a
reaction at all, is usually "I like this book" or "I don't like it", and
what follows is a rationalisation.
I often keep that passage in mind when discussing art, but I feel that there are boundries. Much of pop music contains some level of fraud, and I cannot condone people being comfortable with that (unless it is with a great sense of sarcasm).

At least we can agrre on that, lol. But what pisses me off the most is that i was listening to Maiden, as I said, but without heaphones. It was just loud enough for me to hear, which is pretty low.
My brother flips oput, and my dad yells at me to turn it down. Once again, he blasts his music till 3 in the morning, loud enough to wake the neighbors, and they don't even ask him to
close his door.

Not everyone appreciates art on a deep level, and that's okay- some people like pop or mainstream music or landscape paintings on a simple, visceral level.
'Course, it's equally valid to NOT like that stuff.
I have found it to be a common trend with "alt" music fans that they'll start to dislike a band when they become popular, and will head off to find the next obscure band to listen to. (Not accusing you of that, but it's so common it may be what your girlfriend thinks is happening.)
@GES: You think that's bad? My ma has a hearing problem that means she can't really hear any music properly. It all seems to register as noise. She used to tell me to "turn off that racket" when I was (quite pretentiously) listening to classical music while doing my maths homework .
The moral? Living in close proximity to people makes you pretty crazy in minor ways.

There was a time when I was like that...but it ended when I was about 15. I'm a self-admitted snob, but only when it comes to the music tha that I personally am going to listen to, and when people say they like that "visceral" stuff. But I have some very strict principles when it comes to the useage of any form of media.
And it was ex-girlfriend by BTW.
I think I knew one of those alt music guys. The most mainstream stuff he liked was Interpol and Radiohead (and do Radiohead even count? They sort of cross boundries...)

I am content.
Alone after an exhuasting volleyball session, feet are sore but the bath was welcome. It's getting late, I've helped myself to some leftover dinner and I'm slowly mulling along in my own little world.
P.S. Free Internet to whoever can tell me the band/name of song who does this chorus.
