Broke in as a zed and GK'd at Kenefie:

Note the "Please Revive!" description. I'd say we'd rather not revive this guy, who is a Dual Naturalist at best but probably a Death Cultist.

Just logged back in and I'm still alive. Success! Going to head over to Vinetown, next door, see if I can find anything and then try to mosey on over to Chudleyton.
Will probably set up an Alt too, help get some experience...

Just looked up GK'ing, Manchu, and it said some people do it "even for no good reason at all." Hmmmm?

I assume I can search in one place multiple times btw?

Also, Grakmar, you said I should join a group - are there any in particular or benefits, or are the Dakkanauts in one?

Yeah you can pour all of your AP in to searching one location if you like.

The Dakka group is called the Augarde Irregulars. The benefits of being in a group are ... well, it's what actually makes the game fun. The game has little in the way of internal goals. It's really just what you make of it, externally.

There are a few large survivor groups and zombie hordes you can join. Our group is not one of the larger ones -- although it is large enough to show up on the game's stats page. I have three characters: my survivor in Chud, in the Augarde Irregulars, and my two older characters. One is unaligned, generally working for the well being of Vinetown and the other is a member of the Ridleybank Resistance Front.

For whatever reason, the mythology has grown up over the years that Ridelybank might have been the epicenter of the infection. Many zombies therefore consider Ridelybank to be "the Homeland" and work to keep it in ruins. It's funny because the tables are really turned there. As a survivor, you're always afraid of the zombies breaking into your safehouse and killing you. In the Homeland, you're always worried that survivors ("harmanz" in zed parlance) are going to infiltrate the burb and start -- gasp -- rebuilding things. A lighted building in Ridleybank is a total affront to zedkind.

As a survivor, you band together with others to push back the crisis and preserve/rebuild pre-infection human society. Neighborhoods like Vinetown are pretty safe thanks to committed survivors who have worked there for years. ATM, you could spend the night on the streets in Vinetown for a week and probably not get killed. Of course, some horde or another will make its way through, destroying everything. And that's fun for survivors.

If either "side" (as if it were that simple) ever won the game would be terribly boring. When I started playing again, I noticed that Malton was overrun with survivors and so went zed with my highest level character. It can be fun to have a survivor and a zed alt for this reason. But you want to keep them far apart on the map. Not only is it good manners but if your alts are close together, your chances of successfully attacking or finding items goes down.

Why the name Augarde Irregulars? And why Chudleyton?

Either way, I've just joined it with my main character. I'm already a bit bored of just wandering, so I'm gonna forget Vinetown and head on over. Feel I should probably try to help, so is there anything you guys want me to try and do/obtain on the way there? Fuel or somesuch?

I'm not really interested in the whole zombie side to be honest (that said, I love being a zombie in Halo's Infection), so my alt (I'm getting in on the lingo!) is a survivor too. I guess I might see what the deal is in Ridleytown with him, whilst my main heads on over to Chudley. So they should be pretty far apart too.

In one go, my alt (a Firefighter) has killed a (already crippled, I admit) zombie, found another radio and 2 flare guns! My main character has however shot at a zombie and missed, found a pistol clip (by repeatedly searching, thanks Manchu!) and that's it...

Thanks for the info Manchu, the wiki's not very newbie-friendly I'm finding...

When some Dakkanauts first stepped up to play, I suggested we have a group goal: take and defend the Pitman Mansion in Quarlesbank. So we all convened there, only to find that the only thing going on in town was us getting PK'd by somebody who ahd already claimed the mansion. So I further suggested we head south to see some anti-zed action -- and therefore be able to earn XP to level up. I chose Chudleyton because of Caiger Mall, which is a perennial target for any and all zombie hordes, especially because the largest active horde (the Dead) is headquartered very close by. We took our name from our first meetup/base, the Auguarde Street Police Department in Quarlesbank ... hence calling ourselves the Augarde Street Irregulars. There is a vague hope that we will one day return to Quarlesbank and drive out the PKer ... but things are a little too fun in the Chud right now, what with the mall falling every month.

Please ask any and all questions you might have. There's no point trying to search through this thread now, at 67 pages.

I tried to think of a pop song that I could parody to say "I revived you" but I don't know what the kids are listening to these days.

Also she got raised by a passer by so she's holed up back in Chuds, ready for her next combat.

Heh. Lots of Fallout 3 references in Shackleville; mentions of Boomers and Talon Company.

I've now got a Crowbar (and a Fireaxe), so I feel I should've named my guy after Gordon Freeman, rather than Adam Jensen...

Yeah... Rowcliffe is just rubble, it's not under siege. And, the message shouldn't be "come to Pegton to help defend", it should be "stock up on needles, cuz we're all gonna die soon"

And, there's a gathering at Gelasius? Very interesting...
