Any idea how much that special edition of The Lion might cost? I really like the fancy cover, but I dread the price in AUD.

Judging from previous special edition hard covers I'd say around $90 AUD

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."
- Mortarion, The Death Lord, Daemon Primarch of Nurgle

So all of the goodies (badges, minis and dice) will be available at official GW stores? If so, I have to start planning a trip to Warsaw or Helsinki...

They'll probably sell out in minutes both on-line and in the stores, but will be restocked later in the year.

All I need is to keep from spending my money this month so I can afford and justify the Skaven book. That is unless GW turns around and charges an insane amount for it (though fairs fair to them the last reprints and print on demands have been fairly priced).

I'm also wondering when the next Inferno reprint will appear (and I'm a touch worried as last time they bunched up around 10 books at once so it was a good £50 chunk all in one go )

All £1.99.

I'm glad I waited for The Lost And The Damned. I had a feeling in my bones it was going to come up cheap either via Amazon or a Humble Bundle.

FYI I just noticed Graham McNeill’s Forges of Mars trilogy is currently £1.99 as well for some reason.

Picked that up yesterday.

It appeared in the "You might also like..." section.

I'm sure it wasn't in the Monthly Deals part that the others I listed were in.

My copy of Valdor arrived just now, same size as the Primarch hardbacks, so it'll fit nicely into that series of books for those who collect them.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Okay, halfway through Valdor and so far, a good read with some very, very rewarding bits of fluff and whatnot in there. Minor spoilers and titbits in the tags, though most of it may be old fluff / stuff I missed in other novels I still need to read.

...

..

.

Spoiler:
Basically it's about the first Provost Marshal of the Imperium trying to find out what happened to the Thunder Warriors, straight from Valdor. This takes place not long after they've been mostly wiped out at mount Ararat and the Imperium is still secretly building up its first legions of Astartes.

Legiones Cataegis is the High Gothic name for the Thunder Warriors and back then they too were trained into certain types of warfare (though they also had predispositions towards certain aspects of warfare), the example given being the Fourth legion a.k.a. Iron Lords, who had a thing for siege warfare.

Thunder Warriors at war were monsters who lost all senses and became unstoppable murder machines that destroyed everything in their path. This, along with their unstable nature (exploding muscles, volatile blood, organs that eat you from the inside, insanity) and knowing it would happen to them all at some point, made them quite cavalier about death. They were also becoming a nation within a nation according to Valdor, another reason they needed to be wiped out.

What's also interesting is that the title "Primarch" was a title first used by the Thunder Warrior legions for their commanding officer.

The Adeptus Astartes get their name from the chief geneticist who masterminded the Primarch and Space Marine project: Amar Astarte.

When the Primarchs were whisked away by the gods of chaos, the entire Astartes program was almost destroyed in its entirety, with the Custodes racing to save as much genestock as possible from the chaos tainted dungeons, which explains why some Legions were so low on number / had genetic defects.

Don't forget today is the last day for the Humble Book bundle
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/multilanguage-tales-warhammer-2020-black-library-books

There's a load from Horus Heresy, 40K, AoS and even Old World in there. More than worth the cost even if you only want a few of them.

Any ideas on what the cryptic first two or three pages were about? I haven't been keeping up with the HH books for several years now and was clueless. Also, I was hoping for a bit more info on Valdor himself and his early years which were hinted at peripherally but never actually explored. I found that strange given the title/focus of the book. I did appreciate the info we got on

Spoiler:
the thunder warriors though.

The opening is...

Spoiler:
the creation of Valdor by the Emperor, as it in hindsight pretty much sums him up quite well.

The second Ciaphas Cain book too (Defender of the Imperium) - I think it was books one and three last month. And Titanicus.

It just seems funny that some of these other sale deals do not seem to appear under the Kindle Monthly deals listing.

Looks like the best thing is just to review my 'GW Kindle' wish list every month and see what has been reduced.

Seeing as I now have quite the backlog including the omnibus Cain, Eisenhorn, Night Lords, Priests of Mars books as well as a fair few singles via these deals and Humble Bundles, I can play the long game.

At the moment I'm enjoying my way through Honourbound from the latest Humble Bundle.

Hopefully the Ventris collections come up. I need a reason to clear out all my physical books to make space for more models.

Do note that Amazon does a LOT of price shifting even down to the individual person level. Ergo sometimes you see a deal others don't; or its done in blocks etc... It's a means by which they can take a whole product block and discount bits of it at random to generate targeted sales rather than discount a lot of things to the whole market.

The idea being that you get a cheap book and then you're more likely to remain loyal and spend even more on other stuff (esp sequels and such in the same series)

They know what they're doing. Amazon has got me to spend £5.97 on the three Cain collections when I would have gone without and spent nothing if they'd remained at £14.99 or whatever individually.

I can play the long game for now. With 20 or so novels to get through, I won't be considering buying at full price for some time.

What I’m hearing is I should make an Amazon wish list of anything I haven’t read, and then just see if anything goes down cheap for me and get if so..
Not that I don’t have a stack/eStack of 40-50 Black Library Novels in waiting, let alone other fiction..
But still

Do they really? Just I've never seen anyone post a deal on here and someone else go "it's more expensive for me". At least in terms of Kindle stuff it's presumably tricky as surely they can't sell it cheap without the publisher's permission (as they don't actually own any stock of ebooks, they just pay publishers a percentage of what they sell).

Yeah but they have different agreements for sale and some let Amazon have more flexibility with sale periods than others. So under some an author might retain full control, under others Amazon might set its own sale periods.

I believe Amazon also advises sale periods as well and such.

It didn't get mentioned on Warhammer Community that I saw (there was a lot of big news this week), but Voice of Experience dropped this week for Digital Monday. (Kind of a t'au/human buddy-cop story set on a space station that's been absorbed as part of the Fifth Sphere of Expansion.) It's been getting a pretty positive reception.
