How about a Rhino with a classic shark-nose paint scheme?

Alright everyone! so weve reached that first big milestone and for the first time EVER in dakka history, lol, im posting army pics!! no shizzz....so in honor of that, to recap, This army is in effect, the army i wanted when i was 9. The way it would have been if it were 1989. If you have to ask about the green base rims, youre too young. Grey Sharks with the classic scheme and logo. The goal was to paint an easy to reproduce scheme that was low stress, not too time consuming, and still meet a minimum standard of tabletop quality that im happy with. Im pleased so far. I have just reached my first checkpoint of completed models. 2 10 man squads a dread and a captain. The Captain/dread ive shared before here so forgive the same picture being put up, its for the sake of completion, not tryna spam or anything. I will continue to post finished units here, as well as updated photos or whatever in regards to this army. So anyways, love it or hate, Space Sharks baby......

The pics are massive so you can zoom in in great detail if you wish:

extra random shots

Spoiler:

hope you enjoy em!

Congrats on achieving the goal. It looks suitably impressive. even the little shark watermark on the one photo.

I'm a bit worried about the background choice. It's a bit, uhm, GW-white-ish, shall we say. People might mistake you for a 'Eavy Metal® painter. Except, you've got talent and they... well they have to paint as they are told by the bean-counters. IIRC, GW was using the blue-sky background back in the late '80's early '90's with green flocked groundcover for their photos. That would make for a cool retro look. Something to think about.

They are stunningly good and your paint job reminds me of an Australian Golden Demon winner named Luke McFarlane he is astounding and your Space Sharks done how they should be done eg: 1989 all the way! are spot on, the simple scheme is what it's about it means every extra detail you do is in itself another small miniature to gaze upon, every face, every glowing sword, every tassel it's just brilliant and I wish I had your grey skills as they are excellent. I want to see this force expand and become what you want it to be! onward and upwards my friend.

@ Gits: Thanks Man!
@Whaley: Yessir!! see below
@Red: man you always leave the best comments lol. So much to unpack in everyone lol! I LOVE The idea about the blue ish background. will give it a try. and cmon now, those eavy metal painters are CLEANNNNN man..!!!
@ Damo: MANNNN....Luke McF is one of my favorite painters EVER. He got a little spread in WD many years ago and his painting KNOCKED me out. Clean and smooth and bright like a comic. Bigtime inspiration there. And yea, you found me out, my Spacesharks is partially inspired by a mini he painted. <3
@San76 Good to hear from you dude! Cheers and thanks!!
@Goblin: Thanks man! Yea gotta love the vintage rims!!

Anyways, i powered through another model and finished a razorback (1/2) for the most part. I ordered some powders to finish up the treads but at the moment i dont miss em so its by all intents and purposes finished. ILl take better pics at a later date taking photos of such a large model is outside my setups ability so i have to hold the damn thing....kinda a bummer...anyways...here ya goooooo

NEXT UP: Primaris Reivers in classic Yellow and Black Camo.

God dammit that's gorgeous work! I kinda get lost on what to say with your work sometimes! but I can say with certainty is that after seeing that you are lucky i've only had a beer on this stinking hot day and not a bottle of red like last time! otherwise i'd be waxing lyrical about how bloody good you are for pages! lol

@ Damo: i like drunk damo. More red wine for you!
@ Dr H Thanks sir! Stillllll benefitting from your wise advise re: the decals the gift that keeps on giving !!
@San Thanks bro appreciate it. Below is something youre a bit of an expert on so i hope it comes across

Well gents and ladies, first RT yellow camo Reiver is done and ready to go. A COUPLE of little niggles that i should have taken care of early on and the leathers are too dark so that will be redone, ill do the second model first and then come back and fix it on the first, Other than that, this was a blast to work on. The black squiggles for sure was a stressful endeavor because i liked the plain yellow so much i was afraid to mess it up. But i think i nailed the frequency of the camo so it doesnt look overly cluttered, which was a worry. Also side note, in the original drawing the backpack was left a solid yellow with no black camo pattern so I stayed true to that. Anyway.....classic yellow Space SHark Reiver 1 -10:

cheers!

That my friend... is truly awesome! Having done old-school black on yellow camo before, I'm really impressed with how you've carried it off. Just right in my opinion. Nicely done.

Alrighty then!! Hey ho everybody. Just finished the 2/10 Reivers. These models are super fun to paint I really have to admit. The bulky size and clear cut edges really are just a blast to work with. Go on with yo bad self GW. Dialing in the camp patterns too. As long as I keep them pretty varied and backwards twists and turns it stays pretty effective. Super fun to do also...! Anyways, here’s some pics:

Ok lots of close upsssss....naked truths.
Thanks for looking <3

@ San: Thanks pal. Yellow is your wheel house, im just visiting!
@Gits: They are like bad ass ninjas in power armor. can jump in and and just beast mode. Great for killing mantises....
@Thanks Faith. Yeah i actually repainted them a few times because i wasnt getting the right look...im still not sold on them but glad they look cool!
@Damo: thanks man! Just trying to keep it classy You one painting gakhead too damo, you know it and i know it!! and if do see something to critique, you better!! I steal from you without tellling you anyways

Heres the finished 3rd model as well as a little side project treat. a 3.99 hoblgoblin shaman from pathfinder. The scult detail is mostly a joke, but the actual model is super fun and relaxing. Nice to paint with colors i dont normally and this will be a good OSL exercise. For now just painting the face and cloak, a lot of lines and dots....the lighter area on the right bewb is just a marker for osl direction and will be paintied over.

cheers

So Bebop has painted one of my High School Math teachers. The one with the mighty cankles. I don't remember her being that green.

Is that a Deep Cuts mini from Wizkids? Plastic and pre-primed? It looks just fine for a TTRPG.

It's well painted. It's also a good thing to paint minis from more than just one company. Word.

Ah, I'm wondering if it is the lighting or if that yellow might need a smidge of shading in parts?

@ San definitely man! Really opens the mind and creative process! I heard a line the other day, "painting is learning". Man...aint THAT the truth!!?

@Red: Thanks sir! Yeah, maybe? on the shading?? They look good in person, and you know im a perfectionist too, but i really wanna get these on the table so im not gonna obsess....ill try a slightly darker orange preshade for the next fellow and see how it turns out, I definitely aired on the more yellow orange vibe in fear of them being TOO orange. So ill give it a shot.

@ Thanks Dr H!

Welll im full on into this sucker....i just needed to stretch the painting muscies and mind. I was getting too used to army painting, and i found a nice groove with it so im stoked, but i just needed to push my skills so i really got into this cheap ass model from pathfinder. 3,99!! man....what a thrill....so its almost done....i need to focus and bring together the cloak, the left arm holding the staff and just as well as some less visible areas of the robes i have hardly touched yet....the feet....as you can see i chopped off what would have been a giant blue flame coming from the staff...ultimately i felt that there was too much blue. I did paint it and the OSL onto the cloak (you can see residual beginnings on the left shoulder which ill soon remove) but decided to snip it off after seeing where it was going and it felt unbalanced. I also didnt like so much the blue OSL against the Teal cloak and i like the teal versus reddish beown of the robes more than i needed a second massive OSL. I did a quick swap out with a goblin icon and im going to paint the whole staff as wood. Including the icon. I will probably move to repaint the staff handle because as it stands its too similar in color to the robes. I have put alot of time into this model and its becoming one of my favorite minis that ive so far worked on, despite some crap mold details. The rope around his waist for instance is the just a ring with no texture at all but the rope is painted on and came out really well to my eye. Anyways...after this project, ill get back to the reaver squad. Checkpoint 2 for the space sharks is the completed 10 reavers, another Razorback, and a Repulsor tank.

cheers guys
